Patrick Dempsey on knowing what to expect and reality checks

Actor Patrick Dempsey, 41, became a father again in February of this year with the birth of fraternal twin sons Darby Galen and Sullivan Patrick, 10 months on Saturday. For he and wife Jillian, the experience has been easier than when they welcomed their daughter Talula Fyfe, now 5 1/2.

It’s a lot easier the second time around because you know what to expect. The first time around, you’re panicked. If they’re crying you want them to sleep, and if they’re sleeping you think they’re dead. It’s terrible!

The boys have been really good so we’ve been really fortunate.

However, that doesn’t mean Patrick doesn’t get the occasional reality check.

I’m loving [having three kids] and it surprises me because I like being alone, but there is something really comforting in a house full of kids…then I got home to projectile vomiting last night. It was like, ‘Wow! Back to reality.’
