"I was too emotional [when I was pregnant]. I cried at the drop of a hat. It’s Hallmark commercials, it’s anything you could possibly imagine. Not even Hallmark. It’s a coffee commercial, and they pick up [the cup of coffee] and I’d go [crying] ‘Ooooh, it’s coffee!’"

Celine Dion and René-Charles in People

Celinedion_0480_cbb_2Chatting with People this week about her family and Las Vegas life, singer Celine Dion, 39, her husband and manager René Angélil, 65, and their son René-Charles, 6 ½, are featured in a photospread with accompanying interview.

Click below for the CBB-related highlights.

On René-Charles as an infant:

He’s a miracle child. I breastfed René-Charles for a year, and I’ll never forget it. Hiseyes, his skin, his smell, his sleeping, the sweetness, the love, there’s nothing like it.

On René-Charles’ personality:

He’s got the brain, the way with numbers, the memory of his dad.

René adds,

He’s exactly like Celine. He’s sharp.

On that hair:

It’s his own decision. I’ve asked many times, ‘Would youwant me to cut your hair a little bit?’ And he doesn’t want to.

René disagrees, with a laugh.

She won’t cut it! Maybe when he’s 45.

René-Charles favorite Vegas show:

The magician Lance Burton. I’m the second. I’ll take that!

On trying for a second child next year, using frozen embryos left over from when they conceived René-Charles:

If it’s given to us again, we’ll be more than blessed. And if not, it’s not bittersweet, it won’t be a disappointment. It will be that life decided this way. You accept it.

I’ve asked René-Charles if he prefers a little boy or a little girl. And he said a little sister.

On motherhood:

You know, I’m not really a singer. My life is to be a mom. It is what Ienjoy the most. It is my most amazing reward. I will take a chance withmy music. I don’t take risks with my family. He’s my priority. We organize our schedule according to his needs.

I love to watch him and applaud him. The most important thing I can give to my son is my true values. Whatever choices he makes, I want him to assume his responsibilities and achieve what he wants — and be happy. For me to be able to give my happiness to my son. I cannot achieve better than that.

Celine says, “His eyes, his skin, his smell, his sleeping, the sweetness, the love, there’s nothing like it.” I totally get that. My most amazing experiences here on earth have been the tiniest and most tender moments holding my children as infants and getting completely lost in every detail before me.

  2. Stéph Says:

I love her she’s just so natural.

J’aime trop Céline, elle est toujours naturelle, elle n’est pas gênée et je trouve que c’est super qu’elle se consentre sur sa famille. Elle chante très bien!!

    Je t’aime Céline!!

  3. Morgan Says:

I felt exactly the same way about my daughter when she was first born. I still find myself lifting her from her toddler bed and holding her while she sleeps; just marveling at this incredibly beautiful little girl I’ve been blessed with. Motherhood creates such a bond among women who experience it- whether through birth or adoption we all share such a unique sisterhood.

  4. amelia Says:

Beautiful photoshoot! René-Charles looks so much like his father!

  5. CTBmom Says:

My “little” guy is 10 years old…and I still remember like it was yesterday, what it was like holding him when he was a baby. That’s such an amazing time. Rene-Charles looks just like his father. Cute kid. :-)

  6. Jen Says:

There surely isn’t anything like baby love. It truly is like falling in love with this new little person that you’ve created. I love my two older children now but oh, how I miss those days when they were new. I think she has a beautiful family but honestly if I saw that child and did not know it was a boy I might mistake him for a girl. He has gorgeous hair.

  7. cathy b Says:

Oh I LOVE Celine what a beautiful family, I love the fact that she sings from her heart and and for the people and not for the pocket book.I so miss my son being a baby I love that baby smell he will be 7 on Dec 29 and I so want another one like right now LOL!! Oh but the sleepless night !!! I still wouldn’t mind.

  8. gianna Says:

Rene looks exactly like his dad, and I love celine’s new song. Her husband is 65 though, why is she waiting so long if she wants a 2nd baby. Different story if he was in his 40’s, but 65 is totally different.

  9. cassopolis Says:

These pictures are “old” there were released in France 5 months ago, René-Charles looks like his dad. But I wish this little guy had a normal life like going to school, regular sleeping hour (celine said in a interview he’s going only 2hours a week homeschool, etc)

  10. maxxx Says:

i’ve seen these photos before, maybe in the british ok!mag earlier this yr. celine looks fabulous and her sons hair is gorgeous!

  11. sarawara Says:

If I didn’t know Celine has one child who is a son, I’d think that photo was of a girl. I have NOTHING against long hair. He’s just very pretty.

  12. Robin M. Says:

What a beautiful family. The long hair suits him; he is a very striking little boy.

  13. Nan Says:

I can’t believe only one person said something about the hair! I completely agree that long hair is not the issue. However, long hair on this little boy makes him look very much like a girl and I am surprised he has not begged his mother to cut it. He has a very feminine look and the long hair accentuates it.

  14. terri Says:

I too thought it was a girl, not a boy.

Celine is looking beautiful. I hope she is successful is trying to get pregnant.

  15. phobiamom Says:

I love Celine! I was a bit shocked at Little Rene’s hair but if you think about it, when he’s a teenager that do would look pretty cool. The only reason it looks kind of different is because he has such a sweet baby face. I say it they have let it grow this long, might as well keep the look up. Being original, nothing wrong with that!

  16. CaliAngel Says:

I’m sorry but her little boy could easily be mistaken for a little girl.

  17. brookefan Says:

Didn’t she have some difficulty in becoming pregnant the first time? Maybe she will consider adoption, so the age span isn’t too great.

  18. Anne Says:

I am Canadian and love Celine’s voice but the boy’s long hair is unflattering and should be trimmed to look more boyish. It looks silly and does him no justice.

  19. Megan Says:

I have no problem being politically incorrect; to each his own. His hair is too long and he looks like a girl (in this society). That’s just my opinion though.

  20. Marie Says:

If her young son ever goes to public school, he will be the butt of cruel jokes because of his long hair. I think 6 1/2 years old is way past that cute long baby hair stage for a boy.

  21. N Says:

Why does everyone insist the little boy’s looks conform to assigned gender roles? Clearly he’s happy with it, and his parents are fine with it, and that’s what really matters, not that his hair be arranged to look like what other think a little boy’s hair should look like. Power to the Dion family :)

  22. Megan Says:

    N

This is the real world and he looks like a girl.
