So refreshing to see someone, who though not getting their "dream birth plan" as originally thought out, doesn't regret it nor bemoans it and focuses on the outcome, rather then the means by which they got there. I too loved the idea of a water birth and found with my first it was not only not possible then, but wouldn't ever be for any future deliveries either. As a result I have had 6 csections. I am not sorry. Sure, the toll physically has been a bit exacting, but my children were and are still so worth anything I went through to get them here. My ultimate dream was to have a child and become a parent - I succeeded in that, and so, yes, I did have my "dream" birth in a matter of speaking.

This is a great story, because it shows how a couple and their doctors can work to have the best birth experience possible, even when their ideal birth isn't an option. Kudos to the Ballards for working with the March of Dimes to do this good work. Naya is too cute for words, and I hope all goes well in the arrival of her little brother.

Wow, that must have been frightening! I always admire people who plan to have home births. I'm so prone to worrying, and I think it would probably be better for me, if I were ever to give birth, to do so in a birthing center with lots of professionals around. Plus, my mom had complications with me, and I'd be afraid that I would have the same kind of problem.

I wonder if they're going to try the home birth this time around, since the previous complication was so rare (unless it's something that is likely to happen every time to somebody who has experienced it before).

Anyway, congrats to the Ballards! I've kind of followed Alimi Ballard's career since he was on Loving/The City and Dark Angel to his current role on Numb3rs, and it's good to see that his personal life is going as well as his professional life!
