The year in celebrity breastfeeding
Over at Motherwear’s blog, guest blogger Kelly did a 2007 celebrity breastfeeding news round-up. Categories include lactivist of the year, new to the club, graduating class, dad power, and celebrity moment of the year. If you’re a regular CBB reader, you can probably figure out that Maggie Gyllenhaal, Keri Russell, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Garner, and Julia Roberts figured heavily into the list, but what about Will Ferrell?
It inspired me to devise this quiz. Can you guess which celebrities said the following quotes? (For the answers, click the link.)
This new mom was heartbroken when traveling without her daughter and had to pump and dump, saying, "Breastmilk is like liquid gold."- This singer who nursed her son for 13 months said that even from an early age her son knew, "that I’m someone special and that I feed him. I’m the milk cow!" She also said, "My theory is that nursing gives you superhuman powers. How else could I be doing all this when I’m usually a sleepaholic?"
- This TV anchor said, "Breastfeeding is a whole ‘nother profession. The skill that it takesto breastfeed. [laughs] It’s a whole other career in itself."
This former SNLer had a bizarre relationship with her breast pump, mostly caused by sleep deprivation. She swore it taunted her, with the ‘whoosh whoosh’ sound of the pump instead saying, "dirtywhore, dirty whore!"- This comedian said he’s glad his wife does the breastfeeding: "It’s awkward because atnight the baby will sleep with us and my wife will leave in the middleof the night right after the breastfeeding and the baby’s still hungryand she’ll roll over and just look at me. I’m like, ‘No, no. Thesedon’t function.’ She doesn’t believe me. She’s just looking at me like,’If you don’t want to give me any, that’s fine. Those are bigger thanmom’s.’"

- Regarding her husband wanting to help more, "He wishes he could do more, but unfortunatelythe "dairy queen" here is the only one making the milk!"
- For this actress who nursed her daughter for 14 months, breastfeeding "gave me peace and a sense of purpose."
This celebrity dad was disappointed by his son’s taking breastfeeding for granted: "My kid breastfeeds and hejust kinda got thisfrown on his face. He’s not even really getting anything to drink. AndI’m like, ‘You’re ungrateful.’ You know? I mean, how ungrateful. Here Ihad them when they were sippy cups. He’s got big gulp sitting at himright there. He doesn’t know what he’s got!" - This morning show host’s daughter took well to breastfeeding, saying, "Thefirst thing we did when we got home from the hospital was watchEntourage with her nursing on me. She took to breastfeeding 20 minutesafter I gave birth. I’m breastfeeding some nights from 2 to 3:30 a.m.,other nights from 1 to 1:45 a.m. I’m not exhausted at all."
This mom created her own diaper bag line because "I was breastfeeding at the time and used a breastfeeding pillow. I loved having the breastfeeding pillow on the plane with me becauseit was perfect for [my son] to sleep on as well as to feed him on. The onlyproblem with this is that the pillow is a funny shape and I didn’t havea bag that would hold the pillow and all the other things that go intoa diaper bag: diapers, baby wipes, medicines, etc." - While sipping Mother’s Milk Tea, this celebrity told an interviewer, "I have been eating just as much as I was when I was pregnantbecause in order to produce breast milk, you have to keep thecarbohydrates going."
This actress was surprised by her milk supply, saying, "I woke up one morning and it was like I had coconuts underneath athin layer of skin and my husband was really excited about it, but Ilooked like a porn star. - This British model mom nursed for nine months and didn’t mind that it took her that long to lose her pregnancy weight, "For the first nine months with breastfeeding, I kept up my calorieintake and my exercise routine consisted of pushing [the baby] in hispram…It’s only now that I feel I have got my figure back. about Quote 3:” Even though she had experience with her first child, when she had her second, this TV anchor said…”
………Ashby is Nancy’s 1 kid. So what 1st child? Nancy does have her husband’s son from his previous relationship.
Note from Danielle, CBB Publisher: You’re right- I made a mistake, confusing her for a second with Dayna Devon.

- This singer said, “Yes, [I'm nursing]. I can’t imagine not breastfeeding. I’m not going to preach about it, but it’s better for the baby and the mother, and it’s such a bonding thing as well. I also love the fact that she’s so dependent on me. I think if you can [nurse] and you don’t, it’s ridiculous.” -
Ugh i absolutely hate that comment. the Charlotte Church one. way to ostracise people who choose not to breastfeed. i think if you can nurse and you dont its your own choice and it’s no one elses right to criticize you for it.

sarah- I don’t think Charlotte was trying to criticize mothers who are unable to breastfeed or chose not to. It sounds to me like she was simply sharing her opinion about breastfeeding. IMO, she has a perfect right to say that she thinks that choosing not to breastfeed when there is no reason that you can’t is ridiculious. I feel the exact same way she does, and I am glad to hear a celebrity mom finally having the guts to say exactly what she thinks about breastfeeding!
