"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

"If you ask Violet what I do, she'll say she remembers me bowing on stage when I did a show in New York, and so she'll say, 'My mom sometimes will bow on stage and sometimes she gets her hair and makeup done.' It's a great job!"

Diane Keaton talks about decision to adopt

Dianekeatonandduke Actress Diane Keaton — turning 62 on Saturday — says that she "plunged in" to motherhood via adoption after it became clear to her that the "strong and substantive" relationship she had hoped for with a man wasn’t going to happen in time.  Describing her life before daughter Dexter, 12, and son Duke, 7 as "years of selfishness," Diane says she has no regrets about the way things turned out.

I’ve had such an unusual life. Obviously career-oriented. I was happy to be a daughter well into my 40s. That was something that meant a lot to me.  I didn’t think that I was ever going to be prepared to be a mother.

Motherhood was not an urge I couldn’t resist, it was more like a thought I’d been thinking for a very long time…I wanted to be in a good relationship. Those good relationships that are strong and substantive never happened for me, and that prolonged my indecisiveness.

Now that she is a mom, Diane says she enjoys having the focus off herself and instead on her kids — telling Ladies Home Journal that "you can’t sit there and go, poor me."  Known for her unique fashion sense in addition to her acting career, she says she also delights in embarrassing the kids from time to time.

I like to take them to school in my bare feet.

I aplaude Ms. Keaton for not letting a relationship dictate whether or not she was to become a mom. I too, waited for the right man to come along and marry me. But it never happened. I began looking toward adoption, but there was another plan for me and I got pregnant in spite of using two forms of birth control correctly and having major female issues at 34. Now at 40, I have a beautiful four year old daughter that is the love of my life. All things happen for a reason.

I love the fact that she embarasses her kids by taking them to school barefoot! She is a hoot and a half.

  3. Beverly Says:

I am inspired by Diane adopting later in life. I too adopted in my mid 40’s. My daughter from Guatemala is now 5 and the love of my life. She is an angel!! What a dream come true. My husband and I were not able to concieve and after the divorce my journey led me to adoption. What a wonderful path it has been. I am now wanting to add to my family but Guatemala is in turmoil and the country is closed. I looking for other outlets but the choices are few for a middle income single mother at 50. I am praying that I will be able to complete my forever family with a sibling for my girl. She would really like to have a sister.
