Featured Review: Peg Perego Skate: The stroller to end all strollers?!?!
Peg Perego is an incredibly popularbaby brand, their strollers and car seats have wowed parents for years. Theywere one of the first stroller brands I knew of where you could flip thehandlebars so that baby could face you or outward. So, I wasn’t reallysurprised that they would be taking on a new direction in 2008, but I was surprisedat the final product.
The Peg Perego Skate is a true departure from their strollers of yesteryear, but in the best possible way. Some peopleare referring to the Skate as the Bugaboo killer, I don’t necessarily agree. Ithink both these strollers serve their purposes very well. And the Skate reallydoes have its own unique approach.
I was delighted when Peg Peregooffered to let me be one of the very first people to review the Skate — It doesn’t even come out until sometime this month! I’venever met a stroller with more buttons or features. And while it took a littlewhile to figure them out, I have to say each feature is worth the effort. Thisstroller is truly a marvel and worth getting to know.

This post caught my attention as I LOVE my Xplory that I just got last week for our upcoming baby.. but I think this stroller doesn’t come close to the height feature the Xplory has! I can barely see a height difference in the photos. But I do have a friend who will be very grateful for this review.. she’s a Peg fan!

How much does it cost??

I think I’ve read it’s almost as much as a Bugaboo. To be honest, given the choice I’d still go with the Bugaboo. It seems like a nice stroller though if only it were less expensive.

To answer the PP’s…it actually costs more than the Bug at $900, and weighs 10 pounds more.

I have a UppaBaby Vista that I purchased before my daughter Sofia was born two months ago; not only I have I been pleasantly surprised with how much she loves it but it is truly a beautiful stroller which is a lot like the Bugaboo and for only $600 it included everything that I needed. I personally like the look of the Skate but think it is far too pricey when you can get other strollers that do the same thing for far less.

Seriously, this stroller costs $900. Of course the reviewer gave it a good write up, I would too if I got a $900 stroller for FREE. Sorry CBB, this just aggravates me.
Sarah’s note: They’re not for free, they’re reviewed and returned.

This new stroller from Peg Perego is clearly a knock-off from the Stokke Xplory! The Xplory is the true Bugaboo killer! I laughed at this feeble attempt when it was unvailed! When I’m out with my son, Bugaboo owners ask where I got my Stokke!
Bronwyn’s Note: I’ve had the honor of using the Stokke as well, and I have to say that this stroller is truly a nice blend between Bugaboo and Stokke. And it doesn’t look as space age-y which might be a turn on for some. I have to say I loved the Stokke, also and a review is slated for next week of that fab stroller!

I’ve seen this stroller side by side with all of the strollers mentioned and find that the ability to fold this stroller without having to take off the pram, and, the height adjustment of the carseat/pram, make it totally awesome for me.

I have seen this stroller side by side with others and the height adjustment is terrific for a bassinet / stroller combo. Only Stokke for $200 more has similar functionality. I think Skate borrowed all the best from other high end strollers and delivered a superb product. Let me remind you that this stroller is made in Italy, unlike the $1k Bugaboo Cam, which is made in Taiwan and is flimsy compared to Skate.
For those with a concern for weight – the bassinet snaps off super easy and weighs about as much as the frame – you are esentially lifting two 15lb pieces – which is less than other strollers anyway.

I very strongly discourage anyone from buying the Skate…
I have had to return this stroller twice for repairs and am going to return it a third time now…
First Return: before my baby was even born I noticed the bassinet was tilted towards where baby’s feet would go. There was a defect in the frame.
Second Return: brakes broke and kept getting stuck. I got stuck somewhere because brakes would not come off and ended up asking someone to hold my baby while i disassembled it, turned it upside down and kicked the brake with extreme force to get it off.
Third Return: My baby is not even a year old and his head touches the top of the stroller, even though I have flattened the top cushion meant for newborns in the bassinet. Also, the snap on the shade has been broken since I got it, I just kept forgetting to mention it since there were so many other things to remember. Oh, and the “5 point” safety harness does not stay in place. You have to manually put it together and the clip that holds the shoulder straps in place does not stay AT ALL. My baby can sit up from a lying down position and easily pull the clip out in doing so.
Oh, and as for the foot muff, it should not be magnetic. If you want to put a blanket on your baby underneath the muff the two little magnets are not strong enough to keep the muff in place. If it’s cold enough for a foot muff, it’s cold enough for a blanket… so the muff is rather pointless.
If you are going to invest this kind of money in a stroller, get the Bugaboo. It’s the most popular luxury stroller for a reason.
Also, I had to invest in another stroller (which was $600 cheaper and WAY better!) while all of these repairs were being done and will never see reimbursement for my money or inconvenience. This stroller has been nothing but a hassle for me. I am going to ask them to take it back… Peg Perego won’t be seeing another penny from me.

We bought the Skate because we loved the functionality and design behind the Skate. We were told how great Peg was and that this company was top of the line for quality! HA! What a piece of overpriced junk! My stroller has a warped tire that makes pushing the stroller on a smooth service (mall) feel like a busted shopping cart. My baby was born in June 09 and she is too “heavy” and slides to the bottom of the boot when in the basinet position. Complained to Peg and they sent us replacement pins for the seat, they are the exact same pins and made no difference. I cannot even put the stroller into the seat position because there is about 3 inches of play in the frame. The latest! Last week my frame snapped at a plastic elbow joint. We too have had to purchase another stroller. Kicking ourselves for buying this stroller!!!!
