Update: David Alan Grier welcomes daughter Luisa Danbi
Update: The couple have chosen the name Luisa Danbi Grier-Kim for their daughter. Danbi means "sweet rain" in Korean. Luisa weighed in at 7lbs, 6 oz and is 20 inches long. She was born by planned c-section, surrounded by family members in the operating room, at 1:04 pm on Thursday, January 10th. (Please note that this differs from the original report.) Christine says,
She’s amazing. Her looks evolve every moment, and she lookslike me and David. I’m feelingeuphoric, and David is ecstatic. He’s the perfect proud father.
Originally posted 7:23 pm: Actor and comedian David Alan Grier, 52, and his wife, Christine Kim, welcomed a daughter at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, earlier this afternoon. David confirms the birth, saying,
Yes, it’s a girl! We’re very happy.
The couple has not yet chosen a name. No birth details were given. The couple, married since July, announced the pregnancy and sex of the baby in October. Christina had been due in early February.

I’m confused by the “earlier this evening” timeline. I’m on Pacific time and it’s only approaching evening now at 5:30 p.m.
Sarah’s note: I’m on the east coast and obviously tonight’s been crazy.
My mistake.

My goodness, love was definitely in the air around 9.5 months ago, lol. Congrats you two on your new blessing.

pretty name
I like that they hyphenated Grier-Kim in that order
Very cute
Lovely tribute to both parents
January 11th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Good for them for acknowledging both parents in the surname. That’s so refreshing to see.

Hey is it Luisa or Lusa, you have it different in the title vs the text.
Hate to be nitpicky considering how busy you are today. But I was curious which it was
Sarah’s note: With the ‘i’! Let me know about any other mistakes you guys find tonight, I’m on hour 7 of straight CBB work, lol.

It wasn’t working for me, Sarah… I had to do a hard refresh, but I did just have to reset my modem, so that could be it.
Thanks!
Sarah’s note: We have a crazy amount of readers right now, I don’t know if maybe the site is just slow to update itself. Thanks for letting me know.

Aww, Luisa Danbi! Cute name! Congratulations to the two of them and their families.

For some reason I thought it was weird when I saw the baby’s last name was Grier-Kim instead of Kim-Grier. Isn’t the mom’s name usually first and the dad’s last in a hyphenated name when they are married? Just curious. I guess they’re allowed to do it whatever way they want but I was thinking mom-dad was the more common way of doing it.

It’s definitely that way in America, but I think his wife is Korean (or Korean-American?), so maybe they do it differently over there. In England, it’s common for a woman to hyphenate her own name the other way, his name-her name (though the kids usually have the dad’s name only).
I LOOOOOVE the name Luisa. So pretty and feminine. Reminds me of a Jane Austen character.
January 12th, 2008 at 5:55 am
FYI, Luisa is a latin name, very popular in Italy and in spanish-speaking countries.
I loooooove that name!!

“Kim says,”
Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine, but shouldn’t it say “Christine says,”?
January 12th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
great name! congrats to them! can’t wait to see a pic of the new little one.
January 13th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Great name!! Its also my daughter’s name
January 13th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Great name, and I love that they switched the last names up a bit. I hope nothing was wrong since they planned a c-section 3 weeks early? Hopefully that was just what they wanted. I bet she will be beautiful, my Korean friend Addie and her African American husband have a daughter that’s a KNOCKOUT! Just a great genetic combination.
