Reese Witherspoon says Ava, Deacon have ‘great values’
To hear Reese Witherspoon tell it, a normal night at home with her 8 ½-year-old daughter Ava and 4-year-old son Deacon is probably a lot more ‘normal’ than you might think. The 31-year-old Academy Award winning actress says that her family just likes to spend time watching game shows "like the new ‘Crosswords’ and ‘Deal or No Deal.’" Adds Reese,
And ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?’ is very popular in my house.
Reese credits her own parents — who were both doctors — with instilling in her the belief that she "could do anything." It’s that same self-assurance that gives Reese confidence as a parent. She tells Marie Claire in its February issue,
I worry about my kids growing up and how the world might hurt them. But at the same time, I absolutely do not worry about them growing up –- because they have great values and a great sense of self.
Recently named the highest earning actress in Hollywood — commanding a salary of $15-$20 million per motion picture — Reese is certainly in demand. And the strain of trying to do it all occasionally becomes apparent, she says. Still, Reese notes that her profession affords her the flexibility she needs as a mom.
Like every working parent, I sometimes feel that there are not enough hours in the day. But overall, I’m very fortunate that my job has a lot of flexibility. I spend a lot of time with the kids, just around the house. They’re still pretty young, so I feel like what I can mostly do is listen to them and be there for them.
Ava and Deacon are Reese’s children with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

Hmmm…Reese’s mother was head NURSE in pediatrics when I lived near them. I wonder if she’s obtained her MD since I moved away because she wasn’t a doctor a few years ago. Reese’s father was my husband’s otolaryngologist. Very smart, capable, well-mannered man and such a gentleman. I know Reese was raised very well, with good values. Both John and Betty (her parents) are the same way. That’s very refreshing to see that Reese has not left those qualities behind, and is instilling them in her own children.

Reese is such a down-to-earth mother. It’s nice that Ava and Deacon will grow up to be good hard-working people like their parents!

I believe her mom has her Ph.D. in nursing.

Reese is by far my favorite celebrity mom. She has stayed so down to earth and true to herself in spite of her success in such a tumultuous business. If her kids have learned anything from her, they’ll be heads above the rest.
