Update: Halle Berry poses for InStyle and discusses her ‘geriatric’ pregnancy
Update: Quotations and photos added.
Originally posted January 7th: Actress Halle Berry, 41, poses for the February issue of InStyle magazine. She and boyfriend Gabriel Aubry expect their first child in March and are keeping the sex a delivery surprise. However, they think they may have an inkling:
‘Isn’t She Lovely,’ by Stevie Wonder, hasbeen playing a lot in our house. And for some reason, that song keepscoming up on my iPod too — even though it’s on shuffle. We’re like,’It’s a sign! It’s a girl!’
Halle says she and Gabriel are decorating the nursery in a neutral color palette.

Other changes are bursts of energy and a beautiful complexion. Halle — who reveals, ‘I stopped drinking diet soda because of the caffeine and aspartame‘ — says she’s feeling ‘fantastic.’
My skin is aglow from all the hormones. I want to stay pregnant forever.
The second trimester, everybody told me, ‘You’ll see, you’re going to be a whole new woman.’ At it’s true! I know it will change in the third trimester, but rightnow I just have so much joy and energy that I feel like I’ve alreadydone 12 things today. I can just go and go and go.
The Oscar-winning actress is keeping busy, working out with yoga, swimming, light weights and an elliptical machine, and becoming a bit of a bookworm.
As you might imagine, all I’m reading are books about pregnancy and motherhood. Right now, for example, it’s Family First: Your Step-by-Step Plan for Creating a Phenomenal Family ($10) by Dr. Phil.
Apparently she and Gabriel are sharing reading material — he recommended the same one back in November!
One drawback of being an ‘older’ mother, according to Halle, is the labels you’re given.
Did you know this is a ‘geriatric pregnancy?’ I cringe when I hear that. I’m like, ‘Take that off my chart!’
At the same time, she’s realistic.
I may only do this one time, so I want this moment to be as big as it can be. I want the biggest bang I can imagine.
On the subject of names, Halle — who says she won’t be hiring a full-time nanny — reveals that they haven’t yet chosen one.
We haven’t picked a name yet. People are always saying, ‘You haven’t picked out a name yet?’ But I don’t know how you name a baby until you meet it. We [do] know the last name will be Aubry.

Halle is one of my favorite actresses and she is so beautiful, I’m happy she is gonna be a mommy like she has wanted for a long time. What a beautiful photo and how refreshing not to see her posing nude, like so many celebrities have done lately. With gabriel and her genes, that is gonna be one stunning baby.

She looks stunning…radiant. Sheez!

I’ve read elsewhere that she’s due on Valentines’ Day. Has she ever said that she’s due in March or is this based on her original announcement when she indicated how far along she was?
Sarah’s note: March is based on her saying she was 3 months along when she announced. In Touch Weekly said Valentine’s.

She is so flawless! Who else but Halle can look even more gorgeous while pregnant! And she seems so happy, she’s glowing in that picture!

I am seriously in love with her pregnancy fashion! She’s just a regular little fashion plate. Yet another outfit I want to know who made it, and I’m not even that much into dresses….;)I’m sure it’s some well-known designer…*sighs*

I’m so glad she gave up caffeine–the jury is still out on weather it is harmful or not to the baby–, but I always tend to cringe when I see a pregnant mommy with a giant cup of starbucks(maybe some are decaf?)
Anyways, love Halle, and I love how open and excited she is with her pregnancy.

I cannot wait to see her baby and what she has, she sounds so excited and she looks gorgeous.

She is stunning. These pictures almost look fake, because she’s so gorgeous. Seriously, she should stay pregnant forever. Also, her boyfriend is dreamy. I wonder if they will teach the baby French (he’s French, right?).
Not to nitpick – but Ivey – I’ve done a lot of research on caffeine during pregnancy. I don’t think the “jury is still out” in regards to it’s effect on a baby. Caffeine has been consumed for hundred of years and the ill-effects would have been well recorded (and have) by now. The most common side effect from caffeine is lower birth weight, and this is only when coffee has been consumed in excess.
I drank a small cup a day, every day I was pregnant and had a 9lb baby. Every single woman I know (I live in NYC, we tend to drink a lot of coffee here) drank coffee while pregnant and it had no ill-effects on their babies. I’ve asked many doctors in NYC and every single one said that if you restrict your consumption to one 5 ounce cup a day it will have no effect. In fact, if you have really bad allergies, caffeine will really help them – which was a life saver for me, since my doctor wouldn’t let me take Sudafed. The only instance I’ve heard about caffeine having ill-effects is when people are trying to conceive – I’ve heard that eliminating caffeine is a good idea, but I don’t really know why, exactly.
I am all for people choosing to cut everything out while pregnant if they wish, but I really find it annoying when people say they “cringe” when they see pregnant ladies drinking coffee–as if we’re lighting up a cigarette or doing a shot of tequila. Many many healthy babies were born to people consuming caffeine long before people were worried about it.
Besides, dark chocolate can have as much caffeine as coffee/tea and pregnant women eat that ALL the time!
Sorry for the rant, but it’s one of my pet peeves. Everybody has to make their own choices about sushi, coffee, soft cheeses, wine, deli meat, etc – but we can respect each other’s choices and try not to judge. After all, there’s probably something that you will think it’s ok to do/eat while pregnant that other people will be horrified by.

I had my second child when I was 42. I was told she was my pre-menopause baby. We are not sorry that we had her late in life. She is my life, my daughter, my friend and companion. Now that I am 65 and her Daddy is 74 we know why God sent her to us. She is a miracle that we are blessed with. Don’t let people get you down Halle, they should be watching their own business and not everyone elses. Good luck with your baby!! I’m very happy for you.

I’m also due in March and have the same belly shape as Halle. I’m having a girl so I think she will also be having a beautiful little girl!!!

the ‘geriatric pregnancy’ label makes me laugh, just because she looks so amazing and i still cant believe she is actually as old as she is.
Pregnancy really suits her. she is glowing and her bump is so neat.

I had my daughter at 37. They gave me standard tests for a number of things under the rubric “advanced maternal age,” so I feel her pain.
January 14th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
She’s hardly geriatric!
But she looks great in the added scans! Like she wouldn’t! Anyway, in that third shot–love the outfit–she looks like she isn’t even pregnant at all.

Our first child, a boy, was born when I was 23, our daughter when I was 28, and our youngest son (now 2) when I was 40….could not have ask for a more wonderful blessing.

Best Wishes to Halle and her new baby! She looks really good. There is nothing “geriatric” about her.
I don’t know why are so hard on older pregnant moms. She is a grown woman with the means to care for her child. At least she’s not some teenager.

She looks gorgeous! OMG! My prediction is that she’s having a girl as well! She has such a girl belly shape going…Perfectly round!
Congrats Halle!
