Johnny Depp makes $2 million donation to hospital
In an impressive show of gratitude, actor Johnny Depp donated $2 million to the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London yesterday. The 44-year-old actor gave the gift as thanks for the treatment his daughter Lily-Rose, 8 ½, received at the facility last March after contracting an E. Coli infection that caused kidney failure.
The donation is just the latest gesture of appreciation by Johnny, who in late November showed up at the hospital unannounced to read stories to sick children while dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow, his character from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. According to the Daily Mail, Johnny had his costume shipped from the United States to England just for the occasion. And just last week, the newspaper reports, Johnny invited several members of the Great Ormond staff to the London premiere party for his new film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
In addition to Lily-Rose, Johnny and longtime partner Vanessa Paradis have a son, Jack, 5 ½.

Now that is what I call appreciation! What a fantastic father figure that must make him to his children who most likely already adore him.

Aww! He is so generous. I esp. love that he dressed up as Jack Sparrow to read to the kids. Great actor, great looks, and great heart; can’t get much better than that!

What a great guy! Nice to hear a sick child story where the hospital does a great job (instead of injuring the kids like the Quaids’ hospital).
I love hearing stories like this – Johnny is such a class act.

Johnny is so special and unique, one of the best souls living in our world. He has a heart and mind so hard to find nowadays. I think he would give everything for his family. Johnny was always my favorite, but not just actor and artist, but also the greatest guy, I can imagine. GOD bless, wishing him all the joy in this world and that he never has to face such
dark hours again as during Lily-Rose’s sickness.

Johnny Depp is a wonderful actor and I have enjoyed all of his movies over the years. From what I have read about him in his personal life I think he is a wonerful person as well. It is so nice that that he has such a big heart to go into a hospital dressed as Jack Sparrow to read to the children. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall to see those childrens faces as Jack Sparrow read to them. I even like it better that it was Johnny Depp who took it upon himself to do this for the children and his donation to the hospital was wonderful too! May life be a bed of roses for him and his family. I’m glad that he has a heart underneath his star as most movie stars don’t as they are to wrapped up in themselves to see that there is more life out there than their own.
