Ivonne- I’m pretty sure Suri has switched to a sippy cup by now. The bottle pic in this post is an old one from a few months ago, and a few weeks to a month after it was first posted, a new set of pictures of Tom, Katie, and Suri were posted, and Tom was carrying a sippy cup for Suri.

Good Grief, What’s wrong with a parent bragging about their child. My 2 year old scribbles with his crayons and I think he’s a “wonderful artist” too. Granted it only looks wonderful to me but I love my child so much, I think everything he does is wonderful. I think Katie is trying to put into words how much she loves Suri and people just overanalyze them WAY to much. I think my son is magical, wonderful, all of the above, because he is mine and my husband and I created this wonderful miracle and that is how Katie feels too. What do you want her to say, that she pitches fits all the time? About the bedtime. Who cares what they do. I’m sure they are very much aware that toddlers need their sleep and she is getting the right amount of sleep. It’s none of our business. Sleep patterns change all the time and I’m sure they will be able to put her on a different schedule by the time she’s in school. They have PLENTY of time. Lay off of these people. They love their child just like we love ours!

I’m guilty of having a child who goes to sleep late. Since I’ve been on maternity leave, it’s especially awful, but even when he was going to daycare on a daily basis it was bad, until I put my foot down because he was so tired. Tonight he went to sleep at around 12:30. No doubt he won’t wake up until about 11 am tomorrow. He’s healthy and happy though, and I agree that at 2, his sleeping schedule is not set in stone. In a few short days he could be going to bed at 9. It would take tweaking naps etc, but right now, with me on bedrest and everyone sleeping in, it’s just easier this way.

Oh, and Suri is adorable as is the way she dresses. I’m pretty sure she’s happy and playful and her mother’s fashion sense isn’t impairing that in any way. I can’t wait to have a little girl because they have the best clothes! When Suri is older I’m sure she’ll have more input into what she wears. I was a little taken aback that she’s almost 2 with a bottle. I was concerned that my own son had a bottle until about 14-15 months. Whatever works for them though.

Katie dresses suri beautiful, I see nothing wrong with it. Some people like to dress their kids casual which is fine, but if she wants to put nice dresses on her daughter and pretty shoes, who cares that’s one of the cute things of having a little girl IMO. At least katie is always seen with suri and seems attentive, so how she raises her child really is none of my business because from what we can see, suri looks like a happy healthy child.

Jeanette and Elizabeth- ITA! I also happen to love the way Katie dresses Suri (although I admit, if I ever have children, I will be dressing them in more casual clothes most of the time!). As far as never seeing Suri messy or with ice cream on her face….I don’t think we’ve ever seen Shiloh Jolie-Pitt messy either, and nobody has ever complained that we should just once see her messy!

True, Shiloh DOES wear more casual “regular” clothes most of the time…But other than that she is usually just as “perfect” looking as Suri is. My point is, why do people seem to complain about Suri looking so “perfect” and clean all the time, yet never complain about Shiloh looking that way all the time?

In any case, I also agree that Katie probably meant that Suri is creative and imaginative.

Considering that Tom’s older kids homeschool, it seems likely that Suri will as well and that the whole discussion of her sleep schedule is moot.

Someone mentioned that Suri doesn’t even look like a little girl half the time, which surprised me because I always enjoy seeing Suri as so many parents seem to dress their kids to look older and they don’t get to wear the classic little boy/girl clothes that often – and I love that Suri does wear age-appropriate and yet beautiful clothes.
As to the artist comment – maybe they were referring to her personality. As in, she could be an artist/entertainer. As the child of two actors, they could mean artist as actor and maybe she’d follow their path. That goes along with mimicking voices/faces and just a vibrant personality in general. It doesn’t mean she has to be Monet.

Since when is the sleep pattern of a 2-year-old set in stone FOREVER?

Changing what time you go to bed and when you get up is a fairly quick procedure. Just look at how easily people get over jet lag.

Just because my husband and I go to bed at 11:00 does not mean our kids should go to bed then also. We shoot for 8:30- and although we love to be with our kids, we also relish those few hours of peace and quiet- a little adult time!!
And, as an elementary art teacher, not too many 2 yr olds are making ‘art’. However, maybe Katie is speaking to a wonderment and playful quality she sees in her daughter.

I don’t care when her kid goes to bed, but babies Suri’s age (I have a baby around this age) should be getting 12 hrs at night and hopefully a 1-3 hour nap during the day.

If she put her kid to bed earlier, she would probably learn to go to sleep earlier. Sometimes my child stays awake for hours in bed, sometimes he goes straight to sleep. Either way, his bedtime is 8pm.

I know Katie and Tom don’t believe in rules and restrictions, but I think there’s a reason most children are put to bed earlier. I consider myself a REALLY lenient parent for the most part, but I also think sleep is a health issue and I want to encourage my son to get as much sleep as he can – it’s important for mental and physical development.

Suri needs more sleep to create her great artistic masterpieces.
