British singer Lily Allen suffers a miscarriage
We are saddened to report that Lily Allen has suffered a miscarriage. Her publicist confirms in a statement to The Sun:
We can confirm that Lily Allen has suffered a miscarriage. She and her partner Ed Simons will be making no further comment and we ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.
The baby was the first for Lily and Ed, a member of the musicalgroup The Chemical Brothers. According to the newspaper the couple hadjust returned from a romantic getaway in the Maldives when Lilymiscarried. An unnamed friend tells The Sun,
Lilyand Ed are in a state of shock. The bad news has been really difficultfor them to take and they are absolutely heartbroken.
Lilynever announced her exact due date, only saying that the baby was duein the summer. When news of the baby broke in mid-December, however, her publicist said that the pregnancy was in a "very, very early stage."

January 17th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Oh this is heartbreaking. I’m in the early stages and petrified of this happening. It’s just happening so often, I’ve heard it’s one in three to it’s one in ten. Poor Lily and Ed. I hope this makes their relationship stronger.
January 17th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Oh wow…how horrible sad for her and her family. I feel so horrible for them. I wish them a healthy recovery from this sad time.
January 17th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
Blessings to the both of them. I will remember them in my thoughts and prayers and pray for a time of healing.
January 17th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
It’s so sad … I wish her the best. Keep strong Lily!

I lost my son at 24 weeks after going into early labor. He only lived 16 hours before he gave up. So i *kinda* know what shes going through. Its something no one can really comprehend until (and god forbid it ever does to any of you) it happens. And i don’t think its a thing i will ever get over.
They have my deepest sympathies, dealing with this in the public eye is going to be so much harder than just being able to curl up and home and curse the world.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
So sad. Bless them, they are in my thoughts.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
My heart goes out to Lily and Ed. Lily is one of my favourite singers. Let’s hope for a safe recovery for them both.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
That is soo sad! She is in my prayers…
I understand why celebs wait so long to say anything because anything can happen the first trimester!
January 17th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Poor Lily [and Ed]. My heart just goes out to the both of them right now. I feel so bad for her that she has to deal with this difficult time under the public eye. She seems like a strong girl though, so here’s to praying for a good time of healing.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
This is so sad. My heart and prayers go out to Lily and her family.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Hmmm..maybe she shouldn’t have smoked and drank during her pregnancy….?
NOT that she deserved it in any way!! A miscarriage is always tragic, I just feel she should’ve realized she was gambling with her unborn baby’s health by doing such hazardous things….
January 17th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
That is too bad. As anyone who has suffered a miscarriage knows, the experience stays with you forever.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
the baby was not TO BE their first child..it is their first child, theyve lost their first child (well, physically..it will always be their baby.)
im all too familiar with loss, and my heart goes out to them. i felt so sad reading this, and im very sorry that this is happening to them.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
My thoughts are with her and Ed. What a terrible tragedy.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
That’s so sad… Lily and Ed are in my prayers.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
so sorry to hear of their loss. Hopefully knowing that they are in the thoughts and prayers of many many people brings them some comfort.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
That is just so awful, there are really no words.
January 17th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
it’s so sad.I don’t know what to say.I hope they’ll be alright
January 17th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Oh no, that’s so sad. I had a miscarriage a month ago and didn’t know I was pregnant until the Dr. did some testing. I can only image how sad she must be. They’re all in in my thoughts.
January 17th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
I am so sad for them. I, too, lost our first baby. We lost ours at 8 weeks. The doctor told us the rate of miscarriage of a first pregnancy is 1 in 4.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
This is Horrible. Lily and Ed are in my prayers.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
This is so sad. My boyfriend and I lost our baby girl, Katelyn Angelena, when I was 8 months pregnant in September. The pain is so unbearable, going from being so excited, painting the nursery, buying baby clothes & accessories, etc. to just having it all be over just like that. Hopefully they will have the support of their family and friends to get over this tragedy. But it takes time, and I don’t know if you ever completely heal from something like this. My prayers are with them at this time.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Oh my goodness Lena, that is just devastating. Were they able to tell you what happened? I’m so sorry.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
I remember when reading that the baby was due in the summer, thinking it was very early to announce the news. I’m so sorry for their loss.
January 18th, 2008 at 12:50 am
Thank you, Pam. Yes, we found out that she had gotten tangled up with the umbilical cord and strangled herself. It was just so sudden, one day i felt her kicking like crazy, and then the next day there was nothing. So, being pregnant for the first time i was getting a little scared because I couldn’t feel her moving at all. But everyone kept telling me she was fine, i was just worrying over nothing, but I just had this horrible feeling that something was wrong. So that night I made my boyfriend take me to the ER and thats when we found out. We had just finished the nursery the week before and had her clothes all washed and put away, Gavin (my boyfriend) had just finished this beautiful calligraphy type painting of her name above her crib..i couldn’t go in that room for weeks, i was just a complete mess. But thank you for asking, it does help talking about it.
January 18th, 2008 at 12:53 am
Lena,
My sister had something similar (lost a baby shortly after giving birth) and it was horrible and affected her for years. I don’t think she was ever the same afterwards. However, she just had a healthy, beautiful baby four months ago and plans to start trying for another child within the next year, so please keep the hope. The pain will never go away, but you will get through it eventually. I will keep you in my thoughts and cross my fingers for you – that you are able to have a healthy child very soon and stay sane through such a traumatic time. Good luck.
As for Lily, I feel very sad for her. I guess this is why most celebrities (and civilians) don’t tell people about their pregnancy until the second trimester. Poor girl was just so excited and told everybody before the m/c danger period was over. She must have been so excited…
January 18th, 2008 at 1:11 am
I read this news in the paper on my way home from work and i started crying on the train.
My prayers go out to Lily & Ed.
January 18th, 2008 at 3:49 am
Lena I am SO SORRY for the loss of your beautiful baby girl Katelyn. That made my heart ache for you. I know you will never forget the pain, but I wish you all the best for the future xx
As for Lily- I hope she has a good support network around her during this very traumatic time. I can remember reading she had a severe case of the blues (maybe even depression?) before she became pregnant, where she didnt even want to leave the house. I hope she doesnt spiral into that depression again
January 18th, 2008 at 4:39 am
its a shame she was soo looking forward to this baby.
i lost my baby xmas eve 07 so i know how she feels.
i just hope she looks to the future and knows there is so much time. hope she gets over this 1st before she does anything else.
im thinking of her anyway

a family member of mine had a miscarriage last spring and on new year she went into early labor and after 15 hours of labor her daughter was born but died after just one hour. they had a funeral for her a week ago. it’s just terrible when something like this happen and my heart goes out to lily.
January 18th, 2008 at 5:49 am
tragedy
I have no other word
January 18th, 2008 at 6:22 am
My thoughts and prayers go out to Lily, and to Lena.
I lost my first at 4 months. It is true that the pain never goes away. My child would have been 8 next month, and whenever I see a child that age, I wonder if that is what mine would have looked like, or what they would be interested in. But I was able to go on and have 2 healthy, and beautiful children after that. I have gotten to the point where I can accept that it happened for a reason.
I hope that Lily is able to recover both physically and emotionally from this and has all the support she needs–although it sounds like she has her boyfriend through this. Again, my thoughts and prayers go out to her.
January 18th, 2008 at 8:23 am
I hope this puts to rest all the questions about why celebrities wait to announce their pregnancies. For all those who think it’s ‘for attention’ or that they enjoy ‘putting the public through’ the ‘is she or isn’t she’ debate… here’s the real reason. Miscarriages can happen in the first, second OR third trimester, and no one needs the public eye during this time of heartbreak. I hope this puts an end to the callous and intrusive comments.
Stay strong, Lily.
January 18th, 2008 at 8:26 am
I’ve had miscarriages at 14wks, 11wks and one of my sons born at 24wks and lived only 3 days. My sister-in-law has had a full term baby girl born still. I know all too well this horrible pain they’re feeling. No one can really understand unless they’ve experienced it, and I agree, that is IS their child, not “going to be”. My heartfelt sympathies to them both.
January 18th, 2008 at 8:36 am
I feel bad for the family.. I have also suffered a miscarriage and I hated it when people would say oh well, have another.. it wasn’t a baby, it was a fetus, etc.. laughed at me for naming him…
but I can’t help but feel like this was for the best. We know Lily didn’t take care of herself once she knew she was pregnant.. who knows what else could have gone wrong.
It’s most likely the baby wasn’t developing as it should and nature took care of it. If I were Lily I’d feel extra guilty that I caused some developmental error because of her ways. I felt guilty I caused mine too, but no reason to.. I’ve never smoked, did drugs, and only tried alcohol a few times an hated it.
January 18th, 2008 at 9:20 am
my thoughts and prayers are with Lily.
does anyone think they will try again? i believe i read that she and her boyfriend were only dating a short period of time before she got pregnant….
January 18th, 2008 at 9:25 am
I don’t really know much about her, nor do I listen to her, but she has my deepest sympathy. Even to my worst enemy I would never wish such a loss.
January 18th, 2008 at 9:34 am
Lisa – exactly, I don’t get why that is so difficult to understand! People seem to feel that they are entitled to know that a celebrity is pregnant, they should have a right to their privacy!
January 18th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Laura, I feel like your comments are incredibly insensitive. As someone who has suffered a miscarriage yourself, how can you say the things that you have, like ‘it is for the best’ and it is ‘nature taking care of it’. From what I went through after miscarrying my first baby, it upset me so much that people make the insensitive and inane comments that you have, ‘oh well, you can have another baby’ ‘there was obviously something wrong with it’ ‘it was probably deformed anyway’.
The only thing I have heard Lily Allen doing is smoking cigarettes, which millions of pregnant women do all over the world. I dont agree with it, but it is not something like taking drugs.
If anything she was a lot healthier just before falling pregnant as she had just lost a lot of weight (went from a size 14 to a size
due to going on a diet and excercising. She had been diagnosed with heart problems and knew she had to get healthy to prolong her life.
Maybe it is Kerry Katona you are thinking of, she is the one who has done cocaine and other hard drugs, and gone and gotten a tattoo while pregnant.
To say that it is probably for the best is just heartless, it is her baby that she just lost!!!
It amazes me how mean people can be.
January 18th, 2008 at 9:44 am
I feel for you I’ve lost 2 babies in the last year one at 16 weeks, one at 22 weeks. Best wishes for the future.
January 18th, 2008 at 9:51 am
I think that someone else leaked the news of Lily Allens pregnancy, and then her rep ended up confirming it. It seems to happen with alot of the celebs, someone blabs to the newspapers or tabloids.
I doubt that she would have announced her pregnancy so early herself, I made that mistake the first time round, and lost my baby at 11 weeks, I fell pregnant immediately afterwards, and kept the news to myself for 14 weeks.
I am very sad for her
January 18th, 2008 at 10:18 am
I am very sorry to hear about this.
I suffered a miscarriage last year and although it was difficult it more than likely was the best for my family (married and the mother of 1) and my self. Lily is still very young and seems to still be a little immature. Don’t grow up too fast, hon. I was 19 years old when I got married/pregnant, 20 when I had my daughter.
I do not regret it but there are things I wish I had done first. Focus on your career right now and save the family stuff for later, ‘cos girl, you are adorable, talented and really could be a star in the US if you work hard at it. Keep your head up and smile
January 18th, 2008 at 10:23 am
I am very sorry for them. I think many of us have gone through this. It’s more common than people think. I have suffered a missed miscarriage in the past (2001) at 11 weeks, and it took me awhile to get over it. I now have a beautiful healthy 3 year old son and we are thinking of trying for another soon, and it will always be in the back of my mind. I was terrified of miscarrying my son. Anyway, I wish them well and a speedy recovery, both physically and emotionally.
January 18th, 2008 at 11:27 am
God Bless Lily and all the other mothers out there that have suffered a miscarriage and those that have lost their child after giving birth.. i can’t imagine the pain that all of you felt..
January 18th, 2008 at 11:59 am
This is why it makes sense to keep a pregnancy to yourself for 3 months. Then you don’t have to tell everyone your bad news and can deal with it privately!
January 18th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Thank you everyone for your kind words
I do hope we get pregnant again, but I know I’ll be a wreck the whole 9 months until I hear the baby cry!
January 18th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Lyn, I totally agree with you. The worst thing is having to tell people you lost the baby, it’s like reliving it again and again. I didn’t even tell the majority of family and friends until I was over 3 months pregnant with my son. I totally understand why people, especially celebs, like to keep it quiet until it’s in the clear, which is generally accepted to be 3 months or so.
January 19th, 2008 at 4:00 am
Lily Allen, as well as Lena and Bella, You’re all in my prayers over your tragic losses.
Obviously miscarriages can be caused by anything, and more often than not one never knows the cause.
January 19th, 2008 at 6:59 am
LILLY WHAT CAN I SAY YOUR A GREAT PERSON + BE STRONG DONT GIVE UP UR LILLY ALLEN REMEMBER !!! LOVE YOU XXXXX
January 19th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Didn’t we just see photos of Lily smoking while pregnant? That was the first thing that popped in my head when I saw this headline.
Sarah’s note: No. There was a photo taken Dec 4th that agencies were quick to put out once she announced the pregnancy. Immediately after, her rep released a statement that Lily did not know she was expecting when the photo was taken, and she had stopped smoking with the help of the hynoptherapist who assisted her in losing weight last year. It’s seems to be a common misconception that she was continuing to smoke when she wasn’t.
January 20th, 2008 at 11:31 am
My prayers are with Lily and Ed.
We have some family friends who had several miscarriages before they finally had a baby girl last spring.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
I suffered a miscarriage in May 07 at the age of 32 years. I had never tried before and got pregnant the first month. We were so excited and told everybody, because we figured a miscarriage would never happen to us. I miscarried at 6 weeks while at work..it was a horrible thing and I agree you probably never heal from it. My prayers to Lily and Ed..I know how they feel
January 22nd, 2008 at 11:42 am
i am a huge fan of lily allen so was very upset to hear her terrible news. my sister suffered the same thing only a few days before, so i can honestly say my heart goes out to her and ed. i have seen first hand how much strain this can have on a person and a relastionship and i hope the two of them can take care of each other.
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:53 am
Obviously, this is why a lot of celebs choose to hide their pregnacies from the public until after the first trimester. I’m sure going thru a pregnancy with so many eyes on you is stressful in itself, but having to deal with everyone knowing about your miscarriage has to be unbearable. Sorry for her loss. Fortunately, she’s still very young and has plenty of time to try again.
December 4th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
In all honesty, the news of Lily Allen having a “PERSONAL” loss is no one’s business! I find it quite “”SHOCKING” and EXTREMELY SICKENING that no one can see the REASONING in this. GO AWAY!
