Samantha Morton talks about Golden Globes and baby

Tags: Ha ha, News, Quotes

For most actresses, winning a Golden Globe would be something not easily overlooked.  But new motherhood has a way of eclipsing everything else — even award season!  Samantha Morton says she was unaware that her role in Longford won her the Golden Globe for best supporting actress until the day after the winners were announced, when her assistant sent her a text-message of congratulations.  Admits Samantha,

I thought the Globes were sometime in February.  I had a baby on January 4, so I’ve been in another head space completely.

Daughter Edie, 2 ½-weeks, is Samantha’s first child with fiance Harry Holm.  Samantha also has a daughter Esme, 7, from a previous relationship.

I had my second son in October, right when my older sons parent/teacher conferences were. He came 3 weeks early, and I ended up having to have an emergency c-section because we could not for the life of us get his head through my pelvis (it was at an awful angle). So anyway, I ended up with a massive infection at the c-section site and had to be in the hospital a full week.

My 7-year-old ended up staying with my parents so they could get him to and from school everyday while I was hospitalized. Apparently, they never though to tell his teacher what was going on at home, and since they’re older, didn’t know to check his backpack and folder every day for notices. So we miss our conference, the teacher tries to contact me by email and home phone (we’re all still at the hospital, so we didn’t get either) and is sending home notes like crazy. FINALLY the next week when I got out, we got in contact with her and I felt awful. I think she thought we were the most negligent parents!

This is completely embarrassing, but when my second child was born I was caught up in being a mom to a newborn and a 2-year old. I was in charge of finances at the time and completely forget to pay my car payment. I was at the end of my lease (only 1 month to go), and had never been late before. I received a phone call stating that I was late on my payment. I sent my husband off to the post office to express mail a check to the finance company. That afternoon, I looked out the window and saw my car being towed. Long story short, my car was repossessed after being only 3 days late with a payment (plus they got the final 2 payments the next day), and we had to pay the $9,000 for the balance of the car. Needless to say, I am not allowed to handle finances again.

I also turned on the wrong burner trying to make hot chocolate. My older daughter’s high chair tray was on the counter, slightly overlapping the stove. I almost burned down the house.

  3. Mia Says:

When I had my first son, my water was turned off just days after coming home from the hospital. When I had my next baby (my youngest son) the same thing happened. Both times I had forgotten about that bill. That’s the only one I can’t pay online.

pregnancy and new motherhood have taken away all of my memory! i can never remember anyone’s name anymore. this could be because i’m no spring chicken anymore too! :)
