Soleil Moon Frye: ‘It’s about setting a standard’
With her second child due in March and her daughter Poet Sienna Rose, 2 ½, firmly entrenched in toddlerhood, Soleil Moon Frye says she’s feeling the way most moms do the second time around: "More relaxed but less prepared." The 31-year-old actress and boutique owner tells Posh Cravings,
I haven’t been reading all of the books or doing the kind of stuff you can do when you have more time. It’s been good though because I haven’t had time to really freak out about it…Though during the final two weeks I’ll probably be like ‘AAHH!’
While most of us dread pacing the halls at night with a fussy baby, Soleil says she actually enjoyed the process, calling those first few sleepless nights spent walking and talking to Poet "an amazing bonding experience." Although she worries that baby #2 will suffer from the same tummy problems that troubled Poet as a newborn, Soleil is excited to finally meet the newest addition to her family with husband Jason Goldberg.
I’m just going to try and cherish every moment like I did with Poet — spending those first days at home loving and cuddling. You have to try and cherish the newborn time that lasts just a quick few days.

The Little Seed, Soleil’s eco-friendly boutique which opened in 2007, came to be after Poet was born and Soleil had "so many questions" about what was and was not safe for baby. Now parents can find all the products they need "under one roof" at The Little Seed, Soleil says, adding,
But not only that, it’s about trying to make The Little Seed the norm, so the norm is that we don’t put lead in our paints, etc. And we as parents are that generation of activists saying we need to make that change, we’re the ones that need to make the environment safe for our kids; it’s about setting a standard — and hopefully we’ll see ‘Little Seeds’ blossoming everywhere. Hopefully the manufacturers of toys and other products will follow.
For parents who may find themselves feeling overwhelmed by all the ‘green’ choices that are suddenly on the market, Soleil offers up some ideas about where to start.
I really love our eco-friendly bottles. And the organic changing pads are important because your baby is always laying on them. [They’re] going to be my big purchase for the new one. Teething toys are so important because so many of the non-toxic options are things that go immediately into your kid’s mouth. Organic blankets, because they’re directly on the baby’s skin…and for bigger kids, the toys are great!
