It’s official: Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are having twins
Even though rumors have swirled for months that singers Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, 38, are expecting twins, we now have confirmation from Jennifer’s father. David Lopez announced during an interview on Escándalo TV,
Yes, twins. The thing is in my family, my sister also had twins, so it’s a hereditary thing.
While David would not reveal the sexes of the babies, he did mention that special gifts have already been bought for them.
In Puerto Rico it’s custom to buy an azabache [black stone] bracelet for babies to protect them from the evil eye, it’s part of our culture.
The grandpa-to-be also expressed his happiness for his daughter and her husband.
I’m very proud. Jennifer has yearned to be a mother for many years.

I think she is having a boy and a girl. I wonder if these bracelets he is talking about are the same ones that her mom was rumored to have engraved with Max and Emme. I hope she does not name her kids after the Dragon Tales kids…lol….and i thought she underwent ivf. It is none of our business but I wonder if her and Julia Roberts underwent ivf but did not want to admit it.

Congrats to them and welcome to the club! But I’m afraid it would only be hereditary if Jennifer’s mom or her maternal grandmother had twins. You can’t inherit the ability to ovulate multiple times from your father

That;s exactly what I was thinking Michelle. Twins come from the maternal side. Plus, I am pretty confident she had ivf…she unfortunatly struggled for a long time. Anyhow. Can’t wait to hear the news and wish them all the best and healthy babies =)
I think her dad may have confirmed their names with the bracelets too!

FINALLY it’s confirmed. I knew it’s twins from the start. I have a feeling and hope it’s a little baby boy and a little baby girl…so they’ll enjoy one of each, but whatever it is is wonderful.

Congrats to them! Does it really matter if they did ivf or not? Just be happy for them geez! We don’t need to know all the details on how they conceived their babies. Congrats J.Lo & Marc! I’m happy for you, no matter how your babies were conceived!

fraternal twins are passed on through women not men, sorry daddy J-Lo. identicals are simply fluke of nature.
Congrats to her! as a mother of twins I know how painful it is to carry. ( i went up to 39 1/2 weeks)
I wish her all the best. once you have twins it is hard to imagine having just one.

I don’t care if JLo di IVF (personally I think she did), but twins do not run along the father’s side of the family. I don’t think if your paternal aunt had twins, it means you have a better shot. Your mom? Yes. Your grandma? Yes. Mom’s sister? Sure. Not your dad. From everything I’ve read, twins are only on your maternal line.
That said, there are a million reasons why a woman has twins. IVF or Clomid-type drugs obviously, but also women over 35 have a much higher chance. Either way – who cares why? Congrats! She’s waited so long, I’m sure she is thrilled.
My only gripe is she seems really insecure about her belly. I have not seen one picture of her not totally covered up since that accidental shot of her belly onstage. I would love to see the bump. Gabrielle Nilon worked that twin belly like it was going out of style!

I do agree that celebrities deserve just as much privacy as a “private citizen” but as someone who has gone through multiple rounds of IVF, I wish more celebrities would come out about their struggles, to educate and to empathize with us “real folk.” Congratulations to the happy parents-to-be!

I would be so cranky if my dad spilled that when I was obviously wanting to keep it under wraps (otherwise she would have made a statement or announcement herself?)!!!
And although its no-ones business but Mark and Jennifers, Im sure the dad just added that in to make people think they did not undergo IVF- even though it would have to come from the mothers side anyway! (opps dad you should have done your research!!). I dont know why people would be ashamed or secretive of IVF anyway?
Im not wanting to start a heated debate- its greats news for them!!

I am so glad to have it offically confirmed now! I was starting to feel really guilty about all the speculation.
As far as the names go….Even if she and Mark do name them Max and Emme, it is possible that they don’t know about the Dragontales Kids (and therefore don’t realize that they’re naming their kids after them). Also, another poster pointed out in a previous J-Lo post that the media could have gotten it wrong and the little girl (if it is indeed a boy and a girl) will be named Esme, rather than Emme. Like I said before, I’d also be surprised if J-Lo chooses the same name for her son that Christina did.
All of that said, I honestly do think she may have ended up conceiving naturally. The IVF thing was just a rumor. It’s also possible that she did go through IVF, but didn’t conceive….and then ended up conceiving naturally. At any rate, I don’t think her father would have spoken about twins being hereditary (and BTW, I HAVE heard of it being passed down by the father’s side of the family. You’d be surprised what traits can be passed on by which parent!) if she had conceived via IVF.

Actually a male can pass along a genetic propensity for twins to his daughter so a grandfather of twins could conceivably pass along that gene to his daughter and then she has fraternal twins. That’s one reason some people believe that twins “skip a generation”. They don’t, but when a male passes along the fraternal twin to his daughter and then she has twins, people see it that way.

Why is it so hard to believe that J-Lo may have concieved naturally? Yes, she is 38, but there are women that have concieved naturally even into their 40s (and even a select few in their 50s!)!
I’m not saying she didn’t have IVF, just that it’s not totally out of the realm of possibilty that she concieved naturally.

I don’t think it’s anyone business how she conceived. It’s a personal issue. Besides,there may very well be nothing to speak out about. She’s 38 years old. It’s very common for twins (Fraternal)at that age, even after trying for a while.

You would think that celebrity parents/grandparents would learn something from the whole Jon Voight/Angelina situation. Jon was telling Angie’s personal business and plans to the media, and it pissed her off! I think the grandparents should utilize the “no comment” answer. As far as twins, Jennifer probably did have IVF. Because she was on the cover of Glamour or a similar mag last year, before she got pregnant. Inside, she states in the interview that she only wants to be pregnant once and that 2 babies at once would be great! I think it’s a bit ironic that she ended up pregnant with twins shortly thereafter this interview, so I would say that it’s IVF. As for those on her who claim it’s none of our business, well, if we like to admit it or not, anyone who reads this site or any other entertainment site is on here because we are “nosey” about the personal lives of celebrities, whether it be their pregnancies, children, or that they are going to rehab! Maybe the names Max and Emme are nicknames for something else.

A woman conceiving in her late 30’s does have an increased chance of twins. It has to do with a hormone that increases with age. Higher levels of that hormone push an ovary to produce more eggs.

Here is the truth on twins:
Only fraternal twins run in families. Having identical twins has nothing to do with heredity.
It is a myth that twins skip a generation. It is possible that if you are a fraternal twin, you could have fraternal twins as well.
The “dizygotic” or two-egg twinning gene is passed down from female to female. So if your husband’s mother had twins, it doesn’t influence the likelihood of you giving birth to twins.
Age is a factor.The older you are, the higher your chances of giving birth to twins.

I’m puertorican and I know exactly what black stone they are talking about. It a little braclet with a black stone in the shape of a little hand in a fist. I had one when I was a baby and each of my children has one. And I think they have something similar in Italian families.

Colleen, you’ve left out one point there – a woman CAN inherit a propensity for twins from her father. If there is a genetic predisposition to dizygotic twins in the male line, a woman can inherit that gene. The way that JLo’s father describes it, she could easily have inherited that gene from his side.

I know a few years ago on The “ellen”
Show she said she would love to have twins.
I’m guessing she made this statement while undergoing IVF/Ferility treatments because
when doing ART, The chances of multiples is 25%++. As the mother of twins, I have done a LOT of reading. I wanted to clear up several things. Her fathers statement about His sister having twins, Then J-lo having twins because if runs in his family. It’s simply ignorance on human reproductions. Every Man make MILLIONS of sperm, The sperm having nothing to do with making twins.
In spontanious occuring twin pregnancies,
about 1/3 are Identicals, & 2/3 Fraternal.
Fraternals do run in families on the maternal sides ONLY. I’ve heard many false things in reguards to twins since having my twin girls. I wish more celebs in their late 30’s & 40’s would pubicly speak of how their twins were actually concieved and stop giving millions of young ladies the false sence of fertility.

While older mothers do have higher chances of having twins, their overall chance of conceiving naturally drops dramatically by that age. Even Alexis Stewart said in a interview posted here that many (most?) IVF clinics don’t want to take women over 40, unless they’re using donor eggs b/c their own eggs often just aren’t viable at that age.
I’m positively thrilled for Marc & Jennifer, and wish them an easy birth and healthy babies!
I do understand that the Roman Catholic church outright prohibits the use of IVF, and so many couples that do IVF and who are are Catholic keep quiet about it. I don’t know how religious Marc & Jennifer are, but he did have a wedding with his first wife in a very big Catholic cathedral in Puerto Rico.

Okay, I went to TwinStuff.com’s “Twin Wiki”, and this is what I found (please especially pay attention the part in parantheses): And remember, just because mom or pop is a twin doesn’t mean two are on the way. There is no way whatsoever to predict identical twins so a mom who is an identical twin has no better chance of producing twins than any other women. And the twinning gene is carried on the female side, so dad doesn’t have much to do with it (at least in terms of the first generation – the dad can pass along a gene to his daughter).

I just love how her parents out the details before she has a chance to. First, her mother confirmed the pregnancy and her dad confirms twins, all while she just gets to pretty much not say anything and just enjoy her pregnancy, which she’s pretty much done!

I have boy, girl 9mo twins. and twins do not run in my family at all. the doctor said because of my age of 35 is more likely the reason. She will enjoy them. I know I do seeing everyday the differences and how the interact with each other. Twins are truly a blessing. Again congratulations to the couple

Who care if she is having twins, people go all out like if they are the only twins being born I really don’t care if they were just any other couple having twins they would not even be on the shows, marc should be ashamed of what he did to his wife and the boys and now he acts like oh what a great dad he will be.. his children are going to resent him when they find out what he did to their mother and jlo is the biggest loser I have ever seen. she and Marc broke a home with wondeful kids they are left behind.. Marc stop having children with every women you are with.. she is the biggest slut I have ever heard of no women with diginaty would of had so many men in her life what a disgrace to the Latina women…
