Heidi Klum on The View: Sleep deprivation and her children’s names

Tags: Names, News, Quotes, Video

Model Heidi Klum, 34, appeared on The View yesterday and spoke about motherhood and her three children Leni, 3 ½, Henry, 2, and Johan, 14 months. Heidi who is married to musician Seal, 44, also mentions the naming of her children and sleep deprivation.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck mentions to Heidi now that she is a mother of two, she never sleeps. It’s the same for all mothers, including supermodels,

[I don't sleep] much. But you get used to it. People always say when you have kids you don’t sleep that much anymore and it’s true. But I don’t mind it.

Heidi goes on to fill in the ladies regarding her children’s names — for all the readers who previously wondered how to pronounce Lenicheck out the video in the extended post.

Leni is only Leni because it is my grandmother’s name.

Heidi then rattles off the boys long names but says that she never has to use them because she just uses Leni, Henry and Johan.

Upon departing, Elisabeth tells Heidi,

Tell those kids we say hi. They are adorable.

Heidi is obviously very attractive, but I love her more and more with every interview she has…she is so funny! She’s a celebrity I’d love to go out to dinner with!

  2. Kate Says:

She seems so sweet, lovely and down to earth.
I glad she explain the children’s names. Now everyone will know!

  3. Lisa C. Says:

I like how Heidi didn’t correct the women on pronouncing Leni’s name wrong. I’m sure lots of people have, I always pronounced it Len-e too. I love the actual pronounciation of it. “Laynee” is such a gorgeous name and I don’t think I have ever heard it before. Now I have & I Love It!

  4. brookefan Says:

What’s with the sleep deprivation? I don’t get that…and I had 4 under five, and nursed them all. Are they all in the same bed? If so…how can we be expected to feel sorry for someone who can’t sleep? Ever try to sleep with an infant or toddler? That’s why they make cribs and bassinets…

  5. Ada Says:

    brookefan,

i think they are referring to having to tend to the needs of infants (2am feedings, constant changing, crying, etc) and toddlers (waking up extremely early, potty breaks, etc). especially when you have both infants and toddlers.

  6. literaldan.blogspot.com Says:

it’s nice to finally know how to say leni’s name! and i think it makes sense that she only calls the henry and johan, their full names are only for when they are in trouble : )

  7. Margot Says:

    What are their full names?

Sarah’s note: She says them on the video. Leni is just Leni Klum. Henry is Henry Günther Ademola Dashtu Samuel and Johan is Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel.

  8. Lucie Says:

She does not say “Laynee”. She says “Leenee”.

Go to this site: http://www.nordicnames.de/Aussprache.html and listen to the pronunciation there. It is very clear.

  9. fallon Says:

Brookefan not to mention, heidi has a few nannies for the kids, so her sleeping thing I’m sure is not as bad as your average mothers that have to do everything with their kids without any help. The nannies are usually always present when heidi goes out with the kids, so I’m sure in the house they feed them, change them, and help out because that’s what they are there for.

  10. Kate Says:

Fallon: Heidi never said how bad her sleep depervation was. Day to day has nothing to with or without help on a daily basis if you are still not getting sleep. Her help isn’t much help, if their not around to help out like ( not sleeping through night, very, very early in the morning and very or very very late in the evening. Or when there simply not there. We don’t know was going in her house or anyone elses. So please don’t try assume or guess. :)

  11. fallon Says:

Kate I don’t assume, when she was pregnant with johan she went on the conan o’brien show said she will have 3 nannies now that she is expecting her 3rd child, and one of her nannies is a live-in. So how do you know the nannies help out only when she is seen out, but not when she is home. Heidi is a career woman does a lot of appearances and is out and about, you honestly think she doesn’t get help in the night with kids. She is not your average mother, and there’s nothing wrong with it. Truth of the matter is, I’m sure she gets more sleep than your regular working mom with 2-3 kids and no live or regular nannies.

  12. Kate Says:

Fallon. I not saying she’s just getting help for only she’s seen out. But from I what I understand that could very well be case and Of course working as you said, she said and we all know. All I’m saying is you “REALLY” don’t know what is going or how she uses her nannies. How do you know how she’s using her nannies. There is no such thing as an “Average” mother. Yes, she is fortune enough to have money to afford nannies. Rather than most. It probably does help. But is doesn’t take away her being a hands on mother. And her still being able to experience those mommy pains/trails.Which includes her being sleep deprived on any range of a of scale.

“I’m sure she gets more sleep than your regular working mom with 2-3 kids and no live or regular nannies.” – THEN How IS SHE WORKING. WHO IS TAKING CARE OF THE 2-3KIDS.IT’S EITHER REGULAR DAYCARE, LIVE-IN OR LIVE-OUT NANNIES, PRESCHOOLS AND SCHOOLS OR FAMILY/FRIENDS.

  13. melle344 Says:

Fallon, I’ve watched pretty much every Heidi interview and even the Conan one when she was pregnant with Johan and she never said that she going to hire a third nanny for each child. Its possible that she has done that but she has never said it in any televised interview. Also, from everything that I’ve read about her and from what people have said about her, Heidi is a hands on mother. Having nannies doesn’t change that and she is also a busy woman with many businesses so of course she is probably not sleeping as much.

  14. CelebBabyLover Says:

melle344- ITA! Just because a celeb has nannies doesn’t mean that they aren’t a hands-on parent! I mean, look at Angelina and Brad, for goodness sake! They have been very open about the fact that they have nannies, but it is also obvious from what they’ve said, as well as what friends and relatives have said about them, that they are hands-on parents.

Angie even mentioned in an interview several months ago that they would prefer not to have ANY nannies, but they need to have them for their children’s safety (considering the fact that the J-Ps are about the most paparazzi-hunted celeb family, I believe her).

Anyway, it’s very possible that, even though Heidi has nannies, she and Seal do the majority of parenting themselves.

  15. Kimberly Says:

I am SO jealous of woman who look gorgeous even when their sleep deprived!!! I look like the lochness monster. haha Heidi is one blessed lady.
