Motherhood gave Erykah Badu a stronger voice
Singer Erykah Badu, 36, has always been known for her writing skills in the music world, but after her children — son Seven, 10, and daughter Puma, 3 ½ — entered the world, they have influenced her for the better.
In the past, I did things in my own time, own speed and in my own way. When you have other people that you are responsible for, you have to create more options for yourself. My children motivate me to move and to be a good example of me … to be the best me I can be.
As far as my music? It’s still me. I’m not saying anything differently; I’m just saying it at a higher frequency. As I’ve grown, my music has grown. It’s like higher vibrations, without the same mistakes.
Erykah’s next release, New Amerykah, will be out on February 26th.

Probably my favorite contemporary music artist. I saw her perform when she was at least 7 months pregnant with Puma, and she was extraordinary. A high energy concert in which Erykah executed some pretty demanding African / modern dance moves. I can’t wait for the new CD.

I hear from friends who live in Dallas that Erykah Badu has 4 or 5 children with 3 being by Andre 3000. Is there any truth to this?
