Nicole Kidman says Golden Compass not off-limits to Isabella and Connor
Nicole Kidman’s new film Golden Compass is no stranger to controversy, but that hasn’t stopped her children with ex-husband Tom Cruise — Isabella, 15 and Connor, 13 — from seeing it for themselves. Nicole said at the Tokyo press conference for the film that the child she’s expecting with husband Keith Urban won’t be laying eyes on Golden Compass for some time to come, however! Says Nicole,
My Bella and Connor are 13 and 15, so they have seen the film. And they loved it. My child inside won’t see the film for a long time.
Having a baby has made the 40-year-old actress view her film choices in a different light. She adds,
I think once you have children, you want to balance the work you do. Occasionally you want to make films that they can take their friends to, [that] they can go to the premiere of, that they celebrate.
Nicole and Keith’s baby is due in July.

Weren’t Bella & Connor enough to rethink her film choices? Looking at her films over her career, I would say that Nicole didn’t take them into consideration.

It’s becoming very tiresome to hear quotes from her that sound as if she’s never had a child before. And I know the great mass media is trying to construe it that way as much as possible.

Okay, now I think I see a bit of a bump! I’ve been waiting for her to start showing…she looks beautiful, and sounds thrilled to be expecting! Hope all goes well.

I suspect she means now that Connor and Bella are older she is taking into consideration making movies they can see, go to with their friends, and she can take them to the premieres of. Not regarding her unborn child specifically, since his/her viewing and attendance are rather far off.
I think she clearly loves and adores ALL of her children equally.
And she looks gorgeous.

Hmm, perhaps I’m just odd; I think the fact that the movie sends the message “Christians should die because everyone should have the freedom of choice except them” would be the first thing that put me off from making the movie. The sad thing is, everybody knows if it were persecuting ANY other religion, there would be an uproar; however, it’s okay to torture the Christians because (since we don’t actually bother to research what true Christianity is about) a few loud crazies have made us decide that they deserve it.

I think it’s pretty obvious that she is talking about her older kids (not the new baby- it’s not exactly going to be going to movies with friends for a while). She looks beautiful.

Nicole has done some more kid-friendly movies before, like Happy Feet. I agree with Delilah’s interpretation of the quote. I feel bad for Nicole. It’s like she can’t be happy about having this baby without people accusing her of not loving her two other children as much. We don’t know what goes on in her and Tom’s households. Let’s not pass judgement.

She looks beautiful!
But the dress is horrible, imo:-( And she usually has great taste.

Sanja I agree- very strange choice of dress for her (not being mean)!!
Her hair and makeup looks great though….

I think the way CBB separated the quote caused the confusion. I saw the original and this statement was one paragraph so it was obvious that she was talking about ALL of her children. Also, can we lay off the Bella and Connor issue?!! Maybe we don’t see them with her because she respects their privacy. Why is it any of our concern?
Sarah’s note: I haven’t seen the original quote in it’s full form — we just got this from People.com. Please let us know if anyone comes across the original source.

Wow Nicole really can’t win with some can she…why is it with HER we always have to analyze every word she says about her kids? She loves them–they are her kids and we don’t know what goes on when they are together or not–no doubt she’s a wonderful mother and will be a wonderful mother to ALL of her kids…I love Nicole and Keith and am so excited to meet the new addition to the family…and i am sure Bella and Connor are too…sheesh

It’s kind of disappointing to see that every time someone has a combination of adopted and biological children that there are always so many people who are looking for something to criticize. I think the Nicole, and other celebs who have a combination of bio/adopted kids, are held to totally different standards than the rest of the parents. If all of her kids were biological kids and she made that statement I highly doubt she would be receiving the same amount of criticism. It reminds me of the blog comment from AJ, I think of all of AJ’s kids were adopted or all were biological then there wouldn’t have been such a fuss made. Is it really that hard for people to believe that a person can adopt and give birth and still love all of your kids equally.

Here is the source that I saw http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080220/film_nm/japan_kidman_dc
I think just adding the “having a baby part” makes it seem like she’s just talking about the baby. Not that it even matters. She loves all her kids and I don’t know why people can’t believe that adopted children are treated equally.

I too was immediately saddened to see yet again more of the “Bella and Connor” nitpicking. Jeesh! I must say I’m not understanding the dress, but WOW OH WOW her makeup and hair are unbelievably beautiful. She is a vision.
