Jack Black’s toddler techniques
Expounding on a previous interview in which he’s explained the delicate balance of toddler discipline, actor Jack Black recently told People that he thinks his approach is working. Of son Samuel Jason, 20 months, Jack shares,
So far no screwups. He’s super cute. He’s a dance machine. He does scream if he doesn’t get what he wants. I think that’s normal, but I’ve learned some new techniques.
Someone told me that you have to explain to them why they are not getting what they want. Even if he doesn’t speak yet, he can tell that I’m trying to communicate, and he respects me. He still cries, but he cries with less urgency and potency!
Jack, 38, and wife Tanya Haden are currently expecting their second child.

Any news on what they are expecting?
My eldest is coming on 18 months and like Jack’s son she screams when she can’t get what she wants.
Both my husband and I try to explain to her why she can’t (even though she doesn’t understand) and we say no in a very firm voice so she knows no means no if you get me. Sometimes she does still cry but I find the best thing is to not give in. So she knows a boundary is there.
She’s pretty good though. She’ll have a bit of a tantrum and then when she knows she’s not getting the attention for it, she’ll stop and realize it’s not getting anywhere.
Sarah’s note: No, they haven’t shared. We don’t even know when Tanya’s due.

My son is 17 months and we’re just starting to explain things. He doesn’t get it yet, but just the fact that we start talking in the middle of his screaming fits gets his attention and he calms down just because he starts starting at us, lol.
