Chris Robinson on life changes and Kate Hudson
Echoing the earlier sentiments of ex-wife Kate Hudson, a new interview with Black Crowes rocker Chris Robinson, 41, finds him expressing regret that their seven year marriage did not last, but agreeing that the product of the union – 4-year-old Ryder Russell — is the tie that binds them together still.
In 2000, I fell in love. I had never felt anythinglike that before in my life. It kind of took me over. We get alongpretty good now. We’ve got a four-year-old son and hishappiness is the most important thing to us both.
Having a child meant big changes for Chris, whose ‘extended adolescence‘ was filled with drug experimentation and the debauchery typical of some rock and rollers. Marrying Kate and getting the unexpected news that Ryder was on the way was a kick in the pants for Chris, causing him to adjust his priorities.
Life is different than it was in the Nineties. I’m adad, and there are other things I have to get done in an afternoon thanjust being an artist. Part of getting older is realizing that you canintegrate all these different areas of your life, rather than theadolescent mindset, which for me lasted a long time, which says, ‘It’sall or nothing."
The Black Crowes’ new album, Warpaint, is out this week.

I thought he had other kids besides Ryder. You would of thought he would grown up already in the 90’s with his other kids.

Isn’t it curious, that they both express love and respect for each other…why are they separate? Seems they could work it out. This is a darling picture of dad and son.

They get along better now as friends,and stay that way for the sake of their son. Living separate lives, and coming together for Ryder causes them to get along better now.
They have a mutual respect for each other. It’s much better than hating each other.

The official reason was irreconcilable differences but there were rumors that Kate had an affair with Owen Wilson on the set of You, Me and Dupree.

See I think its great when two parents can get along without having to be together. I don’t see why they have to be together if they get along for the sake of their child. You know how much better it is for the child when his or her parents can be in the same room together without the awkwardness and mean stares at each other. My own mother tells me this all the time, “Why don’t you just get back with you daughters father?.. You two get along real well and you take the baby out together.” We broke up for a reason and we share a child together and that child shouldn’t suffer because of that. I don’t see whats wrong with being friendly to my daughters father for the sake of her! My daughter doesn’t know why we broke up, things happen. There are some good explanations to why we did but she shouldn’t suffer from those reasons. I’m just glad her father still wants to be in her life and be respectful to me because most of the time its the complete opposite!

I think it’s great kate and chris can have a civil relationship with each other. That’s really important considering they share a small child, and in most cases both parents wanna be present in a child’s life so it’s easier and better for all parties especially the child if things can go well. Brooke burke and her ex, also get along good I heard.

i bet he’s a brilliant father. Ryder is such a cutie pie and is probably going to be happier than another child,whose parents have been living together for maybe to many years.
Also, he was too small when they broke up, so this situation of having two parents who are just friends is going to seem perfectly normal for him. He looks like a happy boy, and i adore the picture you guys posted of him in the pool, it’s adorable!

I am glad Kate and Chris are still friends….Ryder is such a cutie!
I’d love if they reconciled, they were a great couple when they were together.
