Tori Spelling both wants and fears having a daughter

Tags: News, Quotes

Having put her tumultuous relationship with mother Candy aside for the sake of son Liam Aaron, turning 1 year old on Thursday, Tori Spelling admits that although the love between the two is mutual, "we don’t have an easy relationship."

Idon’t think we ever will, but I’d rather have a complicatedmisunderstood relationship than no relationship at all.

However, this complex mother-daughter dynamic has left Tori unsure of her feelings regarding her second baby possibly being a girl. She shares,

Part of me desperately wants a little girl, so that I can have therelationship that my mother and I didn’t quite have. And then on theother hand, I’m scared that I’ll just kind of repeat mistakes that mymother made with me, maybe. Um, so — but I’d like to give it a try.

Dean McDermott and Tori, 34, do not yet know the sex of the new baby due in July, but plan to find out.

I am sure that there are so many women who can relate!

  2. Crystal Says:

Maybe its just me but I dont really think Tori should speak so publicly about this. In my opinion I think it probably makes things worse. With that said though I am excited to see what sex Tori’s second baby will be! I am a 90210 fan and Tori will always be Donna Martin to me lol!

  3. Carlie Says:

I’m sure Tori will be a fab mum if she has a little girl, as she will if it’s another boy. She’s already a great mum to Liam. And life is full of trial and errors. Life is a learning curve so I’m sure she’ll be fine.

  4. pink mango Says:

if she is due in july – wouldn’t she know the sex by now? i have a friend due in august and she found out about a week ago.

Sarah’s note: She may know. She has a ton of press appearances for her book this week, so she may announce it at some point.

  5. UggaMugga.com Says:

I agree with Crystal…I was uncomfortable reading the quote. That’s too personal of a topic to discuss and I’m sure that certainly won’t help her relationship with her mother. I wish them the best!

  6. J.J. Says:

She’ll be a great mom to her coming baby, as she is to Liam regardless the sex. If she has a girl this time, I’m sure they will have a great relationship together, although there will be lots of ups and downs and probably many fights that oocur usually between mothers and daughters. But overall, Tori has the ability to raise her kids to share a bond with others. They’ll definitely have a good upbringing.

  7. Suzianne Says:

I believe Tori and Dean are a truly deeply in love couple. I have enjoyed their TV show and the love shines through as they care so much about each other and Liam. I sincerely hope their love is long-lasting and not by Hollywood standards these days.

  8. Shay Says:

I, for one, am getting a little tired of Tori’s “poor little rich girl” drama. When she and Dean first got together, she made public comments about his wife and now it’s her mother. If she wants any kind of relationship with her mom at all, do these comments help? I don’t think so. Forget the “Mom was jealous of my relationship with Dad” and “I only got $700,00 from my dad’s estate; if your dad was worth $100 million, wouldn’t you expect at least $10 million?” You shouldn’t EXPECT anything and you should be grateful for ANYTHING you receive. She and Dean are young, healthy and marketable; they can make their own way. I know $700,000 isn’t a lot of money to Tori, but she should realize how these comments make her seem to those of us for whom $700,000 could make life a lot easier!

She should focus on herself and her growing family. If her mom’s going to be in her life at all, they should try to provide a positive influence for Liam and the unborn baby. I’m not saying it’s easy, but it will be worth it in the long run. If Tori keeps up with the bitterness and bad feelings, that will affect her relationship with her children. Kids pick up on those sort of things. Tori is fortunate to still have time to improve the relationship she has with her mom, and to show her children what love and family is all about.

It’s easy to judge when it isn’t your life (her reality is her own)..I know for me talking about things is a form of healing. They asked her a question and she answered it.

I feel the same way about my pregnancy. I’m scared because of a similar situation w/ my mom and it’s nice to know I’m not the only one. If you feel uncomfortable reading about her issues–don’t read the article..not everyone feels the same.

Thanks tori for being honest. life isn’t always perfectly wrapped w/ a beautiful bow..some things are a work in progress and my mom and i are taking it one day at a time too!

  10. nosoupforyou Says:

I felt the same way when I was pregnant.

I prayed for sons and got them. My life is less complicated now.

Those of us who had difficult or abusive relationships with our mothers will understand.

However, if I were Tori, I wouldn’t discuss it in the press. Since I’m not Tori, it is her decision.

  11. Lauren Says:

    Amen, Shay. I agree 100%.

  12. ang Says:

aw, poor ol’ tori. haven’t got her book yet, but have read heaps of excerpts online. doesn’t sound like either of her parents understood her very well, even from a young age & i don’t think candy is shocked anymore about what is said. tori did say she wrote the book hoping her mother would understand her better though. tori is quite a shy person who doesn’t do well in face to face confrontations, so i guess this book was her way of expressing herself clearly without feeling intimidated by others or the press. she is more like her dad in many ways though,so boy or girl,i think she will be an awesome mother-i mean, look how happy liam is. she has 2 signings this week- in NYC tomorrow & L.A. on friday so it’d be cool if she knows, if she announced the sex to her fans first =)

  13. robyn Says:

I wonder how the little girl that Dean abandoned when he hooked up with Tori will feel if the baby is a girl.

I don’t understand how someone can make a commitment to adopt a child then turn around and just leave. But then again he did not keep his marriage commitment either.
