"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

"If you ask Violet what I do, she'll say she remembers me bowing on stage when I did a show in New York, and so she'll say, 'My mom sometimes will bow on stage and sometimes she gets her hair and makeup done.' It's a great job!"

Erykah Badu discusses Seven’s musical abilities and helpful hints

Tags: Ha ha, News, Quotes

While many mother-son pairs have activities they participate in together, Erykah Badu and her son Seven Sirius, 10, take it to another level — they like to rock out on their electric guitars! And there’s more talent where that came from, says the 37-year-old singer/songwriter.

Seven and I practice our electric guitars together. He plays uprightbass in his orchestra at school. He took piano for four years. And hehas a beautiful voice. He probably has the same eclectic tastes thathis father [Andre 'Andre 3000' Benjamin] has. I would say his father is all in his DNA!

While Erykah has previously shared how her children inspire her music, she says that they teach her as well. For example, her little boy keeps her up-to-date on technology!

My son saw me singing songs into my phone and putting them on my voice mail. He goes, "Mom, you don’t have to do that. All you have to do is use a microphone on your computer and open up this program called Garageband." I began doing that and wrote songs so quickly.

Erykah’s new release, New Amerykah, is out now. She is also mom to daughter Puma, 3½.

I really like Seven’s name. Unusual enough to be, well, unusual…but not too over-the-top different.

    :) They sound pretty happy.

  3. Whitmey Says:

Erykah is very much not up on the technology. She posts on Okayplayer.com as analogue girl (also a line from a song of hers – analogue girl in a digital world).I just adore her…

I really enjoyed this article! Neat to read about creative people and their children. Sounds like a fun house to grow up in! And I have always been a fan of hers.

  5. Rosy J Says:

Seven is a cool name isn’t it? I can’t remember how she came to choose that name (I read somewhere the story but can’t recall it). Anyway, I like it. I would like to see photos of her children.

  6. jasmine Says:

I absolutely love Erykah (and Andre 3000) and Seven sounds just as cool as his parents.

  7. fay Says:

she named him seven because it’s a prime number, it can’t be broken down… it’s also because of the “lucky” number 7, 7 is a number of completion… all that stuff… reason’s like that…

  8. fay Says:

and this world is TOO small… i can’t believe there’s another okayplayer who reads cbb… that’s not a slight at either website… but anyone who FREQUENTS okp would know what i mean!!! (smile)
