Women and men need to be aware that they should look at their overall health well before they start trying to conceive. It takes around four months for an egg to mature, and around 100 days for new sperm to form, so both partners need to be as healthy as possible (which includes giving up any vices such as alcohol, cigarettes and caffeine) at least four months before attempting to conceive.
