"I was too emotional [when I was pregnant]. I cried at the drop of a hat. It’s Hallmark commercials, it’s anything you could possibly imagine. Not even Hallmark. It’s a coffee commercial, and they pick up [the cup of coffee] and I’d go [crying] ‘Ooooh, it’s coffee!’"

Going "green" doesn’t have to be a daunting task, it can really be as simple as making small changes in your everyday choices. Slowly all those changes will add up and you’ll be doing your part to help save the planet.

Here are some easy places to start:

  • RecycleEmploy the Three "Rs" — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Jack Johnsonhas a great children’s song, ‘3 R’s’, that helps teach children how they canhelp the planet by Reducing, Reusing and Recycling. Reduce the amountof stuff you use and waste. Reuse everything you can, from clothes tocontainers. And lastly, Recycle, if you can’t use it again, try torecycle it. Think before you trash!
  • Think About How You Travel: Consider alternative methods of transportation, like biking, walking or public transportation to get where you need to go. If you’re in the market for a new car, consider a car that consumes less fuel like a Hybrid model. Read this article for tips on How to Green Your Car.
  • Learn About the Problem: You can’t even begin to think about helping the planet if you don’t really understand the problem. Consider watching  An Inconvenient Truth or BBC’s Planet Earth to get a visual lesson on what’s going on.
  • Think Local: When it comes to the food you eat, a lot of energy (and we don’t just mean the lifting of the boxes) goes into getting the products onto store shelves. Consider buying produce at farmer’s markets or from local farms. Read this article more tips on How to Green Your Meals.
  • CottonBuy Eco-Conscious Clothes: We did a whole guide on greener clothes, and we can’t stress enough the importance of organic cotton. Cotton is one of the most sprayed crops in the world, so if we can opt for safer clothing alternatives we can greatly help this problem. Also consider buying clothes made of hemp, vegan leather, soy or bamboo.
  • Don’t Waste Water: Many of us only think of conserving water when we’re in a drought, but there are things you can do year-round to help. One easy way is to turn off water while you brush your teeth. You can also install water-saving shower heads or aerators. Read How to Green Your Water for even more tips.
  • Turn the Lights Off: It’s so simple and yet many of us are guilty of it, when you’re not using them, turn the lights off. This applies to all things that use electricity. Even chargers that aren’t in use draw from electrical current, so consider unplugging things when they’re not being used to help conserve energy. If you hate walking around unplugging things, pick up a power strip, all you have to do is switch the strip off and all electrical currents will stop flowing to it!
  • CanvasbagsShop Smart: Always opt for paper bags at the grocery store, or better yet, bring your own. Most grocery stores sell reusable canvas bags, and we have to say, these bags are more comfortable for toting and can hold a lot more.
