"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

"If you ask Violet what I do, she'll say she remembers me bowing on stage when I did a show in New York, and so she'll say, 'My mom sometimes will bow on stage and sometimes she gets her hair and makeup done.' It's a great job!"

Dirty_little_secretsDirty Little Secret: “I had to use my toddler’s potty chair on the side of the road when I was stuck in traffic. I just couldn’t hold it.”

Trisha Ashworth and Amy Nobile conducted interviews with hundreds of mothers while researching their best-selling book I Was a Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids. It didn’t take long before these moms began to reveal their Dirty Little Secrets — surprising, thought-provoking, guilty confessions they hadn’t told anyone else. Cringe-worthy moments ("I bit my daughter’s finger trying to steal a bite of her cookie.") meet real insights ("I love my kids but I didn’t always. It took time to fall in love with them."). These are the private thoughts that every mom has—and every mom can relate to.

  1. jamie Says:

When my baby gets fussy I sometimes pretend I have a headache, so my husband can deal with the baby.

  2. Lauren Says:

Similar to the one above, I pretend to be breastfeeding so that I am excused from doing something I really dont feel like doing hahah!

  3. TJ Kuehn Says:

When my oldest was tiny and colicky, the only thing that would make her smile was if I belched in her face. So I did.

  4. jenm Says:

I have a 9 month old and am also 3 months pregnant. Sometimes I’ll really milk the pregnancy symptoms (nausea, exhaustion) to get my husband to help out!

  5. Nicole Says:

I have a 2 1/2 and 4 year old…when one of them wakes up in the middle of the night, I nudge my husband and tell him my back is hurting (i have back issues) even if it is not, so that I don’t have to get up. That has a happened on more than one occasion, I also say that in case one calls in the night due to one of them getting sick…I hate to be the one who discovers throw-up, I will clean it up, I will help get everything together, I just hate to be the one making the first discovery….I don’t know why!

  6. Maria Says:

What a fun book! I can’t wait to check it out.

  7. Dana Jacobson Says:

While I was pregnant with my son..we are going to Stars on ice. I had to go to the bathroom so bad, and we were stuck in traffic getting to the Allstate area. I had my husband put a coat over his window and I put a tupperwear container underneath and went potty in it. I still can’t believe I did that my husband and I still laugh about it.

  8. Jill Says:

I sometimes think of the Doodlebops as my personal on-call babysitters! Thank goodness for DVR!!!!

  9. Mary Alice Says:

I have taught my 27 month old daughter how to give me a foot massage with her baby lotion. It keeps her from squirting lotion all over the carpet, and it feels great!

  10. Danyelle Says:

I am pregnant four months with my first child and I sometimes I use the “exhaustion” as a way of getting out of doing things I really didn’t want to do in the first place. It also helps with getting the hubby to help a little more around the house!

  11. Brittany Says:

I’m currently 8 1/2 months pregnant with my first baby. My dirty little secret is that even though I’ve been a vegetarian for the last 8 years and have been trying to stick to a well balanced veggie diet during my pregnancy, I actually ate some of my fiance’s crispy fried chicken back in my second trimester! And I liked it! I hope PETA never finds out but I blame it on the baby…

  12. Katie Says:

As an aunt, I had no idea I was using the wrong nipple on my niece’s bottle. There was ceral in the formula and it was too thick for the nipple. I wondered why she wasn’t eating very much.

  13. Aimee Says:

I think a lot of us have the same secret lol! I grip about having to feed my 13 month old son all the time just so my husband will. I really dont mind doing it but I need a break and he wont do it if I just ask nicely..so really his fault I think!!

    This book looks great!!

  14. jmo Says:

my dirty little secret is i forgot to buckle my baby into his carseat all the way home from the grocery store! i was worried about him being in the cart in the parking lot while i put the groceries in the car so i popped him into the seat first but forgot to buckle him in! i didn’t realize until we pulled into the driveway 5 minutes later!

  15. Jasmine Says:

when my 2 year old daughter starts to throw a tantrum. I bribe, bribe, bribe with m&m’s. works like a charm. It gets her to stop immediatley.

  16. JMB Says:

I’m pregnant, and I also have a 2-year old daughter. Well, on occasional, I fall victim to experiencing “pregnancy gas” — but nobody would know because I also fall victim to letting people assume it’s my 2-year old. Poor thing.

  17. allison c Says:

My dirty little secret is that sometimes I fake ‘women’s troubles’ when my son wakes in the night, so that I can stay asleep, and my husband will tend to him.

  18. HEIDI Says:

my “dirty little secret” is that occasionally in the middle of the night when one of my kiddos wakes up, i pretend to still be asleep so my husband will get up and take care of them.

  19. DAWN SWEET Says:

My own dirty little secret is that I sometimes (well, most of the time) sleep right in the middle of both my daughters (Emily, 14 & Pippa, 4 months) because I can’t bear to be away from them!

  20. Caryn B Says:

One of my secrets is that when I put my son to sleep, I fall asleep with him. It’s my way of getting in a nap. My husband is usually doing something like cooking or dishes while I’m snoozing away “putting the baby to sleep.”

  21. Diane Says:

My dirty little secret is that when my kids are being really loud and I’m having a long day, I tell them that mommy feels sick, and then they like to cuddle me while i lie on the couch, not only do i get to rest, but they whisper when they talk!!!
