Patrick Dempsey believes three kids are easier than one

Tags: Dads, News, Quotes

PatrickdempseySuccess in Hollywood can very easily go to an actor’s head, but Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey relies on his family to keep him grounded.

It comes back to your family, your core. They’re the people that you’ve known the longest. I love having a big family. I think it’s easier, oddly, in some ways, having three children as opposed to one.  And it’s been great for my relationship with my wife and our life and everything.

The 42-year-old and his wife Jillian Fink Dempsey are parents to daughter Tallulah Fyfe, 6, and twin sons Darby Galen and Sullivan Patrick, 14 months.

I totally agree with him!!! My husband & I have 5 kids (6, 5, 3, & 8 months old twins) & I feel like it’s easier now than it’s ever been. The big kids always have someone to play with & the twins do too.

I have friends that only have one & think they have if rough. I am always hearing “Wow! 5 kids! That’s gotta be hard on you all.” Nope, not really. I can’t imagine our house with just one running around. I tell them the more you have, the easier it gets!!!

  2. CC Says:

Totally agree too. We only have 3 kids (6, 2 and 3 months), but it’s definitely easier AND the kids are happier than when it was just the one or two. I’m not saying it’s not complete and utter chaos though!

The third child was a ‘gift’. We weren’t planning on a third and we were terrified/depressed when I found out I was pregnant. Now I just look at her and think how stupid I was for feeling that way. I also sort of regret getting my tubes tied. Once you get to three kids and you are outnumbered what the difference if it’s 4 or 5 kids?

  3. Mom2boys Says:

I have 2 kids, and I SAY NO WAY CAN MORE THAN ONE BE EASIER THAN ONE and that sounds like something a man would say. BUt perhaps I feel that way because my kids are still so little.

    (No offense guys.)

  4. Heather Says:

I absolutely agree!!!!!! I’ve said since my second was born that I feel two is easier than one. Busier, yes! But it feels easier to me, and they are definately happier being with each other. I can barely remember how I entertained my first all day long before the second came!

  5. Ashley Says:

I’ve actually heard quite a few people say that. They say two is harder than one, but three is easier than one. I only have one… so, I don’t really know, but I’ve heard mothers say this before.

  6. TwinMamma Says:

I totally see what he means. We have three as well (2 1/2 yr old twins and an 8 month old). It’s not really something I can completly explain but I see friends with one child struggle so much with things that aren’t that big of a deal to me. Plus, there is ALWAYS someone to play with!

  7. Hanna Says:

I’m the older sister of twin boys and my mother can’t even remember their first year or what I did during that year . But she didn’t have an nanny

  8. Shannon Says:

I think going from 1 kid to 2 is SO HARD that people stop adding to their family…and don’t realize that going from 2 to 3 or more is so much easier!!!

  9. ma74 Says:

I’m from a family of three and my mother told me that once she had me and my brother things were easier than when my brother was alone. You organize a form of routine.

  10. wendell Says:

Well, I suppose that part of what makes it easier is that a) you’ve had more practice as a parent and b) the original kid(s) is/are older.

But instead of making decisions about family-size based purely on your own comfort and convenience, you might want to consider how much money and attention you’ll be able to provide to each child, and the consequences of bringing exponential generations into the world. We’re not at the point where we can afford to ignore population issues and the waste/resoures created and used by every person on earth and his/her eternal offspring.

  11. Jrn Says:

I have a good friend who has only one child by choice. She has had my two children over to play with her daughter on many occasions and has commented that 3 (or 2) is easier than one. She says that when you have one they are always looking for a playmate or something to do.

  12. becky Says:

I have to agree. We went from having a 2 year old, to then having twins, to then less than a year later, having another. We went from 1 to 4 in less than a year. I was more stressed out with my first one! We have another one coming in Dec., I’m not worried at all, things just fall into place.

  13. Kema Says:

I completely agree!! I just told my daughter this yesterday, she is 22 and just had her 1st. I just explained to her yesterday that one child feels easier until they start to think you are a ‘TOY’ and start to work on your sanity LOL. I had her at 14 I had my second at 18 but i promise things got way easier when she got a playmate LOL!! Six years later I had another, my other 2 were pretty big and was to busy for him , so I had another 22 months later!! LMAO!
Also , I have a 10 year old brother, he technically has siblings but I’m 36 and my sister behind me is 26.. he will drive you insane, he wants me to bring my kids over so bad ALL the time. He drives my parents crazy cause he wants them to do things, like play video games , ball, all kinds of stuff…. but think about this, they are 57 AND 60 LOL! He needed a playmate! Then they wouldnt have to spend all those hours looking for someone to come over and play with him :)
