Gavin Rossdale on lack of sleep and being married to Gwen
Being a parent can be tough — like all moms and dads, Gavin Rossdale could use some additional shut-eye. However, the 42-year-old rocker shared that seeing the world through the eyes of son Kingston James McGregor, 23 months, makes him grab his coffee and suck it up.
[I]need more sleep. Of course, no matter what time you get to shut your eyes, the precision of a2-year-old ready to meet another day is unwavering.
Marching, animals, chalk, footballs, songs, waffles and searching for snails — it’s a revolving door of fascination. And he’s so into it, it’s hard to not share his joy. Need coffee. Strong, thick, eye-opening and above all, helpful.
Gavin discussed the change in the media tide since he and wife Gwen Stefani first got together 12 years ago — at that time, his rock band Bush was topping the charts, and Gwen and the boys of No Doubt were opening for them on tour. Since then, Bush has broken up, No Doubt has achieved great success (as has Gwen on her own), but the press focuses more on their marriage, son, and upcoming baby than their music.
It’s been a tough few years for me because I’ve been lost in how to define myself in the present tense. With that glare of the publicity on us, how can I not feel like an appendage at times? It takes a tough man to be married to a force of nature like Gwen. ‘Rocker hubby,’ if I ever see that phrase again … It’s challenging and it forces a lot of humility.
There are guys who come and photograph me working out at the gym, and I’m like, "Guys, come and shoot me working in the studio — hook a brother up!"
Gavin’s first solo record, Wanderlust, will be released on Tuesday, June 3rd; watch the trailer video to hear new songs here.

Wow, it is nice to hear from a celeb husband talk about being overshadow by his wife and saying that he sometimes get’s irked by it. I find his honesty refreshing. They seem to have a very strong marriage though.
I wonder if CBB has ever referred to Gavin as Gwen’s rocker hubby?

I agree. I don’t ever think it’s a good idea to air one’s “dirty laundry” in public, whether you’re a celebrity or not, but it’s a different thing altogether to admit that life is not always perfect and you’re actually human like the rest of us!

Gavin, I remember you from Bush and way before you were with Gwen. Great, great band and fantastic music. I love your new song by the way…And, you seem like you are the ultimate Dad and partner by letting Gwen shine when she needs to shine. And, yeah, we want to see you working out!

I really admire Gavin for coming out and saying that sometimes he feels overshadowed by Gwen. Honestly, Gavin should be just about as famous as Gwen, he had a lot of hits with Bush and he is a fantastic singer. I imagine it would be hard to be labeled just the “rocker hubby” because it makes him seem like a struggling musician and that Gwen is the real breadwinner, which would be tough for some men to hear. I hope that he has a lot of career success as a solo artist.
Gavin seems like an amazing dad and husband but I do wonder how his daughter, Daisy Lowe, is in his life at all. That situation with his secret daughter probably put a strain on his marriage as well, especially since Gwen hadn’t had a baby of her own (Kingston) at that point.

I imagine it was difficult for everyone. From what I understand, Pearl’s paternity didn’t become known until 2003, when he had already been with Gwen for what, 8 years? To find that out and then have to find a way to tell your wife that your goddaughter is actually your daughter, the product of a one night stand in your early 20s, and the man that raised her isn’t actually her dad…I would think that would be tough for everyone involved!
I liked what he had to say about getting up in the mornings with Kingston. It’s hard but you do it.
I also appreciate what he said about the media, at least he was pretty self-deprecating about it!

They are one of my favorite Hollywood families around.Sarah and Kaley, Daisy’s mom has said some previous controversial comments on the whole thing but I respect Gavin and Gwen for not saying anything about it and keeping it private the way it should be. Some people like to attack him about the whole thing which I don’t think is fair. I do like the fact though for this interview Gavin has shed some light on what it feels like for a partner in a celebrity marriage to feel slightly ignored when it comes to the public eye. I’m sure some of the women married to more famous husbands probably feel that way at some point as well

Wow, he seems like an amazing guy! I love them as a couple, and it’s funny cause I didn’t care for Gwen much until she had Kingston. She seems like a fantastic mom, I love her now
I had a big crush on Gavin when he was fronting Bush, when I was in high school.
