Gwyneth Paltrow calls in to Atlanta radio station
To help out a friend, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, 35, called in to an Atlanta, GA radio station on Friday, May 2nd. The competition called for readers to get the most famous person they know to call the station. Gwyneth discussed her children, motherhood and postpartum depression, all while son Moses, 2, made noises and was a little upset in the background.
She talked about movies and the change she felt towards her career after becoming a mother.
My children make my movies unimportant. I’ll take the summer off so that Chris can tour and I will be with him. It wasn’t until I had my daughter and I was so madly in love with her I just … movies totally lost their appeal to me. I just wanted to be with her all day and stare at her.
I had also worked a lot in my twenties so when I had my kids, I connected to something real. Any woman who can have a kid can be this lucky. It’s not about money or success. The best part of life for me was having my children.
Gwyneth also discussed a previous topic, the mild postpartum depression she suffered after the birth of her son in 2006.
It was an interesting period. It was probably three bad months. I didn’t know what was wrong with me — I just felt pretty bad and out of my body. Luckily, I started to come out of it and then I realized something was wrong. A lot of the time the worst part is that you don’t know you are going through it.

The radio host told Gwyneth that they have discussed PPD before, andsome listeners of the show suggested that there was no such thing; thatit is all in your mind.
I beg to differ. It wasreally intense. I have always been a relatively happy, well-balancedperson, and it was like someone pulled the rug out from underneath me.It’s definitely real. I was lucky. If I had asked for help and knownwhat it was, maybe I would have gone on medication.
As women, I think we are such multi-taskers and we think we can doit all and keep it together, and so I didn’t seek help until I hadstarted coming out of it. Looking back, I wish I had just gone right tothe doctor.

That is what it sounds like in the background when someone calls me! She sounded like any other mom on the phone with a whiney kid in the background. As soon as I get my kids settled and pick up the phone, they start acting up again! Before anyone says how cruel it is that she ignored him, I’m guessing Chris or a nanny was there to calm him down. The crying ceased immediately so obviously someone took care of him. Moses was heard talking, but I didn’t hear any English accent.

I remember the first year when she became a mother and she was on the cover of vogue. She just really seemed to have the glow and seemed to be at peace, esp after the death of her father. However, with the exception of the revealing she suffered from PPD, she seems to be one of those celebrities that makes motherhood seem like it is heaven 24/7, its turns me off a bit.

I live in Atlanta, and I heard this interview live. Gwyneth is absolutely one of the most intelligent, charming, and down-to-earth celebrities I’ve ever heard being interviewed! She is wonderful!
