She’s just beautiful. It’s those big eyes and that smile! She must have such a great personality.
May 4th, 2008 at 11:00 am
She is just perfection- absolutely beautiful-love her eyes- they’re the same shade as my son’s!
May 4th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Ali is just gorgeous and her daughter is easily one of the most beautiful celeb babies!! They are both just gorgeous.
May 4th, 2008 at 11:22 am
She is really beautiful but i hate to see babies with their ears pierced. I just think that putting a hole in your body should be a decision you make yourself when old enough to and not just decided for you.
I love how she dresses Estela though, i think she always looks lovely.
May 4th, 2008 at 11:28 am
I think it’s a very common cultural thing in Latino families though, so I’m never surprised to see pierced ears on babies with a Hispanic background. Personally I think they look cute, but I definitely understand where others are coming from on waiting for the child to decide.
Estela is gorgeous.

The ears of most Mexican girls are pierced in the hospital, hours after they are born. It’s a cultural thing.
One could make the argument that religion is something for a person to decide on as an adult, and yet children are baptized or christened as infants. In some cultures children are tattooed as a rite of passage. We are all different and that’s what makes us interesting.

I don’t think the pierced ears are a big deal. It’s not nearly as bad as circumcision IMO. At least she can remove them when she’s older if she likes.
May 4th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Estela is such a beautiful baby girl! Those eyes are just gorgeous, and her smile is so adorable!
Ali always dresses her so darling, and I, personally, think the earrings are cute. Love seeing photos of her!
May 4th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Aww. Estela is one of the most beautiful celeb babies.
Maybe Estela’s ears are pierced because Ali likes it? She’s not Hispanic. I don’t know if she would raise her child in a culture she is not familiar with.
May 4th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
^ Ali is of French and Spanish descent and her husband is Mexican I believe.
May 4th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
She’s a beautiful baby-she looks like her mom. However, babies in general are adrogenous until they’re about school years.
She probably pierced them-like most people-because her baby is a girl.
Most people assume babies are boys-unless they have their ears pierced. It is a cultural thing as well.
May 4th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
LEONOR – you are dead on in your comment!
People baptize their babies into a religion not of the child’s choosing all the time and yet they are amazed that Hispanics would pierce their infant daughters ears!
This is most definitely an Hispanic tradition. I pierced my daughter’s ears when she was 3 mos. old – she cried for a few seconds, I then held her and she was fine.
As an Hispanic, I actually LOVE seeing Estela wearing her tiny little earrings!
She is one of the most beautiful , happy babies I have ever seen!
May 4th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Thanx, i didnt know it was a cultural thing. I still might not agree with it but who am i to question someones culture. Beautiful mother and daughter anyway.
May 4th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
I love how Estela is alway dressed in classic clothing! She is adorable!
May 4th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
she looks like her her mother. can you say miss. america in trainging
May 4th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
I totally agree with leonor and mamabear. Great comments! She’s beautiful and I think the earings look cute. I don’t know why there was a comment about circumcision but, there’s nothing wrong with it either.
May 4th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Ali is Cajun and Native American while her husband is Mexican. I believe Ali has fully embraced her husband’s culture, including piercing her daughter’s ears at birth. What’s the harm in that? I see tons of little girls with their ears pierced at birth and the hole hasn’t moved much from the original position. Also, if the girl grows up to not want to wear earrings, she doesn’t have to.
May 4th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
I mentioned circumcision because I find it odd that people are up in arms over piercing an infants ears(which is temporary) while baby boys are routinely mutilated for life for no medical reason without their consent in this country(which is not the case is the rest of the industrialized world).
May 4th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
I am besotted with this baby, she is just too adorable for words. As for the ear piercing, it’s not something I’d do to my child, but as this baby is grinning from ear to ear every time I see her it doesn’t seem to have caused her any damage!
May 4th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
FROM MIA- However, babies in general are adrogenous until they’re about school years.

^^^ WHAT??^^ Androgenous til SCHOOL YEARS?
Most people assume babies are boys unless they have their ears pierced??
Your entire post puzzles me…
My daughter will get her ears pierced when she asks me to take her (even though I’d love to get them done now!)
Anyways – I always love seeing pics of Ali and Estella – 2 gorgeous girls!!
May 4th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Ali always looks so happy when she is with her daughter. The baby is just gorgeous. And the whole ear piercing thing c’mon now just leave the poor woman alone if she wants to get her kids ears pierced well then go right ahead. There is no law against it so juts get over it already. Anyways beautiful family would like to see more pics with dad in it.
May 4th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
She’s is a real cutie!
May 4th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Estela is so gorgeous. Her little earrings are too cute and her daughter won’t even remember the piercings, no trauma whatsoever.
On another note…it’s always good to see how happy Ali without Mario!
May 4th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
gorgeous baby…about the pierced ears it’s not only an hispanic tradition. i was born in cameroon Africa and they pierced baby girls ears there too.i think everywhere in Africa they do it.
May 4th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
The pierced ears didn’t even phase me. I guess I’m just so used to seeing it on infant girls. It’s beautiful I think. And definitely a cultural thing. Anyways, Estela is the cutest little thing. And she has the most animated little facial expressions. Always looks like such a happy little baby.
May 4th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
That baby is so GORGEOUS!
I had my ears pierced when I was 5 months old! My mom did it bc she was tired of me being called a boy. So she slapped a bracelet with my name on it and pierced my ears to avoid the confusion! And guess what? I have no recollection of it ever happening
I even had second holes by the time I was 8, and 4 by the time I was 12 all because I decided I wanted it.
It’s a personal choice.
May 4th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Well im black and eveyone i know had their ears pierced when they young and i intend to do the same with my daughter
May 4th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
this baby always looks so very happy, so cute
May 4th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Christine – definitely. Her post confused me a bit, too! Think before you write, maybe?
Anyway, Estela is ADORABLE! She’s gorgeous. I love her little toothy grin.
May 4th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
WOW what strong genes Ali has passed on. Gorgeous baby girl!!
May 4th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
I don’t think culture is justification for things. It’s such an easy answer. That’s what people say about circumsision as well, both male and female! Just because it has been done for ages does not make it right.
And to distinguish a girl from a boy seems like a very superficial reason.
May 4th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
i can’t believe the kind of comments i’m reading here, it’s none of your business to say she shouldn’t pierced her little girl’s ears, maybe you should read a bit more on the subject than just say it’s wrong, you are only making awful judgements on the subject. I had my ears pierced when I was born and it didn’t ruin my life at all, I really thought you were more tolerants.
May 4th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Little Estela is sooooo beautiful and cute, she is gonna be such a heartbreaker when she grows up, and Ali looks so happy too.
I’m very happy for that family
May 5th, 2008 at 12:40 am
Ali Landry’s daughter looks adorable in these pictures. It is sometimes a cultural thing to pierce an infants ears at birth (or soon after) in some hispanic, asian and african cultures. My older sister and I both had it done to us and she never grew to like wearing earrings and does not wear them ever now although I do still. My piercings were set a little too high and had infections. I never had it re-pierced in a lower spot since I never wanted extra holes/scars in my ears. We both wish we had been given the choice to have it done later though. My younger sister was given that choice in latter elementary school and hers are set perfectly. I think it can sometimes be harder to make it symmetric on tiny baby earlobes, but Estela’s seem fine in the photos.
May 5th, 2008 at 3:18 am
Pamela, if that comment was aimed at me i didnt say she shouldnt have got her daughters ears pierced, i didnt say it was wrong and i most certainly didnt say it would ruin her life! I simply expressed my opinion that i didnt like it, i believe i am allowed to do that the same as others have expressed opinions that they like it. I wasnt nasty in my comment and when someone told me it was a cultural thing i can say that i understand it more, unfortunately i do not know everything and if my comments offended anyone i apologise. I wont be expressing my opinion again on here because it seems that if you dont have the “right” one then you get jumped on!

She is a beautiful baby, I love her eyes.
I have three daughters and they all had their ears pierced after their first shots.(6 weeks) I had them pierced because? Well I’m their mother, I wanted them done and I was not putting them in harms way. Holes close up if my girls had gotten to an age where they didn’t want to wear earrings then fine, I’d have taken them out and let the holes close. When they are babies they cry for a few seconds at the most and not even 60/1 minute. To each their own!!!
May 5th, 2008 at 8:25 am

I can’t believe you would make such a judgmental and snood comment like that. I come from a very large puerto rican family, and as any hispanic family would tell you that ear piercing is VERY common on babies/young girls. I have a 6 yr old daughter and believe it not she has -gasp- four piercings.(two in each ear) And it was NOT for superficial reasons. She got her first like any other hispanic girl when she was just a baby, and her second when she was almost 5, because she asked for it. And she is not TRAUMATIZED . Just as a jewish family chooses to circumscribed thier sons. As a culture it’s there RIGHT. You might not like it, and have every right to. But you should respect it. It’s called TOLERANCE. No matter it’s race or religon or cultural traditions.
May 5th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Hispanic/Latino thing? I don’t know about that- my parents are Nigerian, and both my sisters’ and my ears were pierced when we all were a few weeks old. As were all my relatives. As was most children that I grew up with (I was born and bred here in the US)- most of whom had American parents. So maybe it’s an era thing (’70s/’80s)? I don’t know. Either way, it’s not at all a big deal to me- the baby cries for all of about 15 seconds and then it’s done and over with. As far as personal choice- it’s just earrings, for goodness’ sake. Your child can take them out later if she/he doesn’t want them.
Estela- what a beauty! She looks just like her mother, absolutely gorgeous.
May 5th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
God she is precious..she looks just like her mom
May 5th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
piercing your ears has NOTHING to do with culture. Every culture has babies with pierced ears as a baby.
May 6th, 2008 at 10:01 am
what a gorgeous child!
May 10th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
Cute!! I absolutely love the second pic.
May 18th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Yes, is truth that in many countries the girls gets ear piercings at short age, most latin america, spains, Africa, and other countries in Europe. Actually US is one of the few countries where is not usual.
May 28th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
