Steal That Look: Ships Ahoy with Isabella Lachey!

Ahoy, matey! Welcome to the land of stripes. Think nautical, think rugby, think your favorite MTV video of 1983.

Seriously, the celeb kids are all wearing classic nautical stripes on tees and preppy polos and even leggings.  We’ve seen it on celebrity tots from Keri Russell’s son River to Drew Lachey’s daughter Isabella seen here.

Here’s how you can steal the look for your own brood.

When we think stripes, we first think of Petit Bateau which makes it hard to pare down to just one striped pick. For sheer authenticity though, we have to go with the Jersey mariniere ($46, right) in white and midnight blue for a very lucky, fashionable little baby.

Splendid Littles also owns horizontal stripes (don’t think we don’t notice you knocking them off, Old Navy!) and we love their feminine take on the rugby crew in the softest pima cotton you can imagine. ($37 at Arte Bebe)

Ben Sherman, as always, does a bang-up job blending preppy and punk in their block stripe cardigan (reduced to $41, left)

If you’re trying to coordinate your child with your yacht, check out Baby CZ’s classic nautical striped sweater in the perfect summer-weight cotton ($68) and find plenty of shorts and deck pants to match. Little girls can order Shirley Temples on the starboard deck in the poplin Madison dress. ($104,right)

Knuckleheads has fun with stripes in their fox striped polo. ($32) It’s like watching Valley Girl all over again.

Ochanga is striping it up this season from Sage Creek’s classically nautical striped tee ($22, left) to a way funky striped short-sleeve sweater ($55) from Pinocchio.

*20% off at Ochanga with code COOLMOM08 through 5/31/2008

Zutano’s striped Henley dresss veers away from navy towards fuschia ($32, right). We also like the print on beachy drawstring pants ($28) that come in a fun granny smith green as well.

*10% off at Zutano (no code needed but you have to click this link)

Just don’t be mixing it all with plaids, ‘kay?

What do you think of the nautical look?

  1. Max's Mom Says:

I LOVE the nautical look & am always inclined towards anything with stripes for my son.

  2. Jennifer Thompson Says:

LL Bean has a range of sailor shirts that are identical to the Petit Bateau one shown above. They cost about $25 (I think, can’t remember the exact coat) and are very well made. They also sell matching pants.
