Celebrity moms and moms-to-be name their favorite fictional moms
In honor of Mother’s Day, TiVo recently asked some of Hollywood’s hottest moms and moms-to-be about which TV moms rank as their favorite, as well as which TV mom they feel they most resemble, themselves. Melissa Joan Hart — mom to Mason Walter, 2 ½ and Braydon Hart, 8 ½-weeks — singled out Julia Louis Dreyfus’ character on The New Adventures of Old Christine as her favorite.
I think she is so real and raw in her portrayal of a single mom who is self-centered and lazy. It cracks me up how you see her good intentions but she gets wrapped up in her own drama.
As for which mom she feels she most resembles, Melissa chose Phylicia Rashad’s portrayal of Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show.
She was a tough mom who had a great sense of humor. She seemed to love to sit back and watch her crazy husband try to deal with the kids before she stepped in to work out whatever problem the episode was dealing with.

Felicity Huffman, mom to Sofia Grace, 7 ½ and Georgia Grace, 6, jokingly compared herself to Roseanne Barr and said her favorite TV mom is her own character of Lynette on Desperate Housewives "because of Lynette’s fashion sense." Lynette was a popular choice, apparently, because Extra! host Dayna Devon – mom to Emmi-Reese, 2 ½ and Cole Brent, 16-months — said that the character is the one that she identifies with the most. Says Dayna,
Like [Lynette], I always wake up with the best of intentions but sometimes, well let’s be honest MOST times, life takes over and then it’s all hands on deck.
Jennie Garth, mom to Luca Bella, 10, Lola Ray, 6 ½ and Fiona Eve, 19-months, joined with Melissa in naming Claire Huxtable as the mom she most resembles; She chose Carol Brady as her favorite TV mom because of the character’s ability to (seemingly) do it all. Says Jennie,
Carol Brady is my favorite because I grew up watching The Brady Bunch, and now my kids even watch the show. I love that she chooses to be a stay at home mom. She organizes plays and PTA events, puts dinner on the table and tells corny jokes.
Poppy Montgomery recently welcomed her first child, Jackson Phillip Devereaux, 4 ½-months. Although she hasn’t "been a mum for very long," Poppy still has an idea in mind of the kind of mom she’d like to be — if only in her dreams!
I fantasize about being like Samantha Stevens, from ‘Bewitched.’ One day, I hope I can wiggle my nose and create a beautiful dinner — all without breaking a sweat!
Finally, Minnie Driver named Carmela Soprano as her favorite TV mom because "she loves her family but still has time to get her nails done." As for which TV mom she thinks she’ll wind up resembling, Minnie — expecting her first child in August — opted for a humorous choice, telling TiVo,
The TV mom I am most like is probably Marge Simpson: crazy hair, crazy sisters…

I agree with resembling Lynette from Desperate Housewives. I don’t watch the show anymore, but there was one time when she was sitting on a soccer field going on about her life and how hard it was, but she didn’t want to seem like a failure. My husband just held me while I cried because it just rang so true. (I know, I am an emotional wreck.)

i don’t know if i could say patricia heaton’s character in “Everybody Loves Raymond” was a good mom, given how rarely you see the children around the house – a big pet peeve of mine when watching the show. definitely not realistic with 3 children.

Olivia Walton would have to be my pick as favorite television mom. She held that family together in so many ways, through the good and the bad.

Kathleen, the producers actually did that on purpose, they didn’t want the show to become like Full House where everything centres around the kids
