"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

"If you ask Violet what I do, she'll say she remembers me bowing on stage when I did a show in New York, and so she'll say, 'My mom sometimes will bow on stage and sometimes she gets her hair and makeup done.' It's a great job!"

Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton bring Iggy along to a charity event

Actress Cate Blanchett, 38, and her husband, playwright Andrew Upton, 41, brought along their youngest son, Ignatius ‘Iggy’ Martin, 6 weeks, to the annual charity dinner for the Sydney Theatre Company in Sydney, Australia.  The couple is co-artistic directors for the Armani-sponsored dinner held last night at The Rocks.

Great photo. Good for them for taking little Iggy out at 6 weeks. The perfect time to be out and about. So much stuff to carry!

  2. Eleanor Says:

I love that Cate appears to be such an attentive mother. I’m glad that she actually brings Ignatius along to events with her, giving him the time and bonding he deserves, rather than just leaving him at home. It must be quite difficult for Cate to juggle everything-I’m glad I’m not in her position!

  3. Carol Says:

She does tote him along everywhere but I’ll bet there were people who thought she was wrong to bring an infant to an event like that. He’s a cute little guy.

  4. Elizabeth Says:

I love that she brought him with her. Newborns are really portable and they belong with their mamas.

It would have been a perfect time to wear him in a fancy sling or wrap, though. I used to bring my newborn to adult-only events, bundled in a wrap that matched my outfit, and people often wouldn’t even notice she was there. Once, in the middle of a conversation with someone, my daughter shifted in her sleep and stuck her little foot out of the wrap. They guy I was talking to was so stunned to realize there was a baby in there! It was funny.

  5. Emaline Says:

I hadn’t heard him referred to as Iggy before, that is such a cute nickname and not quite a mouthful as Ignatius!

  6. torgster Says:

I’m sorry Eleanor, but to refer to a couple who might desire some alone time as “just leaving him at home”? There is nothing wrong with time away from our kids, and by six weeks he’s not a newborn. Call me old school but I think it’s a ridiculous implication. Everybody is free to make their own choices and not feel guilty for depriving their kids of the “bonding they deserve”! Yeesh.

  7. Michelle Says:

Perhaps what Eleanor meant was that, since Ms. Blanchett has apparently been so busy recently, she would have had to leave Ignatius at home quite frequently the past few weeks, so it’s good that she’s bringing him along for that reason. (I’m sorry to speak for you if that’s not what you meant.) I agree that there’s nothing wrong with having alone or “parents only” time, but it also seems to be appropriate to have him with her so much at such a young age.

  8. Eleanor Says:

Whoops, I’m sorry! I was meaning more what Michelle said but I should have stated it more clearly in my comment. I agree, it’s important to find a way to give the baby time it deserves but also to have some ‘parents only’ time etc.
