Update: Jack Black and Tanya Haden welcome second son, Thomas David

Tags: Births, Dads, Quotes, Video

Jackblack40379_cbbUpdate: Jack clarified on the Today show this morning that the new baby’s name is Thomas David, not Jack. He has Jack’s given first name, rather than the middle name he is known by.

It’s Thomas. I said we named the baby after me, but I didn’t say that my actual name is Thomas. I was in the delivery room. I didn’t catch the baby but I did touch his head before he was all the way out, which was a very surreal experience. I like to think that I helped!

Update June 1st: Jack has confirmed to ET that he and Tanya welcomed a second son "about a week ago."  The baby boy is named after dad.

Originally posted May 29th: Actor and comedian Jack Black, 38, and his wife, cellist Tanya Haden, welcomed their second son on Friday, May 23rd, claims the National Enquirer. The baby reportedly weighed in at 6 lbs and joins big brother Samuel Jason, who turns 2 on June 10th. No word from Jack’s rep.

The pregnancy was announced in December, with Jack revealing earlier this month that the baby was due in May.

Won’t really believe it until I either get an announcement from a rep, or actually see the little tyke! Was it a delivery surprise, or did they know they were having boy no. 2?

(I secretly wanted to see Jack with a little Daddy’s Girl!)

  2. Sasha Says:

I just saw Nacho Libre for the first time – zany laughs!! He was also excellent in The Holiday in a totally different role.

  3. say1031 Says:

ET Online confirmed this. Jack Black said they welcomed him about a week ago and named the baby Jack.

Is the world ready for two Jack Blacks?

  4. auroramia Says:

    I just love him!

  5. Anna Says:

Yay, a normal name! :-) I’m sure little Jack will be thankful for that one day.

  6. kat Says:

Awwwwwwwwww, congradulations. Jack is such a cute name.

  7. Kelly Says:

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love him hes so funny
but i wonder why they named the 2nd boy jack & not the 1st boy but whatever their children

  8. brannon Says:

Wow – between he and Angelina they are doing a lot for free Kung Fu Panda press!! JK — Congrats! Welcome to the world mini Jack Black

  9. Ivey Says:

  10. Louise Says:

    aah bless.

    congrats jack and tanya!

  11. PJ Says:

congrats! i loved Jack in Nacho Libre and School Of Rock. Those movies are hilarious!!!

I wonder why they named baby #2 Jack and not Samuel? that’s a little strange to me, but oh well!
I’m not a fan of baby boys being named after the fathers-i think it’s a sexist tradition. But, that’s just me! Oh well! :P

    Congrats to them!!

  12. brooke Says:

    Congrats to them

  13. Melly Says:

Congrats! I also wondered why the second son was named Jack, but I’m sure they have their reasons. My husband is a III and he’s the oldest son, so I guess I’m used to that tradition. But it’s the couple’s decision, not mine, so “yea” for a cool name like Jack.

  14. ang Says:

wow that went quick. congrats to them!

  15. kkqt Says:

I believe Jack Blacks real name is Thomas.

  16. Spenser Says:

Yeah, I just looked it up at imdb and his birth name is Thomas Jack, so techincally they did not give their son his first name. :)

  17. J.M. Says:

What does it matter? Maybe they got pregnant with Samuel and loved the name so that’s why they called him that. Then they got pregnant again and just had a hard time figuruing out names for the baby so they just opted for Jack after daddy. Perhaps it’s also his nickname. He could be John or even Thomas and just being called Jack :)

But I agree to Jack Blacks that’s a handful!!

  18. gin Says:

Congrats to Jack and his wife !! Jack is a great actor and soooooooooo funny

  19. Sanja Says:

Finally! I like Thomas better than Jack:-)

  20. emma Says:

I don’t understand the update!! Is his name Thomas Jack or just Thomas? Will he known as Jack or Thomas?

  21. Alex Says:

I was really surprised that they were naming their baby “Jack Black” – Thomas made more sense to me when the news broke, but I was unsure and kept my lips sealed. Not that it would have been a bad name, by any means, but I doubt I’d give my child a rhyming first and last name combo.

  22. Stef Says:

LOL Jack is so funny even when he’s not trying to be…”But I didn’t say MY ACTUAL NAME IS THOMAS.”

Wow, give that lovely girl a trophy as she now has three Jack Blackians running around her house. Brave girl! ;-)

  23. Mia Says:

    Cute-

They like the “m” names lol Sam, and Tom.

  24. J.M. Says:

he said, “we named the baby after me, but I didn’t say that MY actual name is Thomas?”

So did he mean Jack? Because his actual name is Thomas? confused.

But nonetheless I like Thomas too.

  25. jenna Says:

I love the name Thomas. I think it’s a beautiful name.

  26. csc Says:

Wow. Im surprised but ET was actually correct this time.

Im still waiting & wondering wy they wont sdmit the were wrong about Ajolie giving birth. Her twins are due in August, & if they did come early it’d be in July not 1st une!

  27. csc Says:

What is wrong w a rhyming name combo?
    It rolls! Its fun!

I was really surprised … I doubt I’d give my child a rhyming first and last name combo.

  28. Casey Says:

I really don’t think it’s ‘fun’ to give your child a rhyming first and last name – I couldn’t imagine my child having to have his/her name being called aloud in front of a class for their entire lives, made fun of at the playground, dealing with questions or odd looks etc because I named them Cassie Prassy or something silly.

Jack, a comedian, chose his own name as an adult, and if my kid wants to rhyme his name later in life, he can do that when/if he decides, but I wouldn’t make the decision for him.

To me, rhyming their name is along the same lines as parents not naming their kids “Justin Time” or “Jack Cass” – this is someone I actually know.

  29. StarLink Says:

I can’t see Jack Black as a father.

  30. Elisabeth Says:

As a mother of both a Thomas and a Jack (full name- John Benjamin, I would’ve loved the name either way. Thomas David is very nice though. My Thomas is Thomas James.
He and his wife make beautiful babies, I can’t wait to see a picture of little Thomas!
I wonder if they will have any more kids? I could definetly see Jack with a little girl.

  31. hello Says:

i saw him in an australian interview and he referred to the baby as tommy
