Matt Birk and his wife, Adrianna, expecting their fourth child — a boy
Minnesota Vikings center, Matt Birk, 31 — who is entering his final year of his contract with his team — and his wife, Adrianna, will be welcoming their fourth child — and first son — this month. Matt, who calls this "a busy time" for his family, has made the decision to forego organized team activities (OTA) and instead spend that time with his family. Although he is forever thankful for being given the opportunity to be on the team, Matt also cannot ignore the most important people to him: his family. Commented Matt,
I know that obviously a lot’s been made of the fact that I didn’t receive a contract extension. That was just a part of my decision process, not coming to the OTAs. I consider myself very lucky to be a part of this team and play football for a living. But I consider myself more blessed with my family and our situation right now.
Despite his contract coming to an end, Matt says he has "nothing to complain about" and that when all is said and done "whatever happens, happens."
In 1998 I just wanted a chance. Here I am, 11 years later, to be with this team — I’m extremely fortunate.
As for his relationship with the Vikings’ coach Brad Childress, Matt says they "both know where each other stands" and that even though Matt feels that he "needed to be there [at home] more this offseason" instead of being with the team, the two do not differ in their goals for the upcoming season: "to win."
Matt and Adrianna have daughters Madison, 5, Sydney, 2, and Ava, 1. If anyone knows Ava’s birthdate, please leave a comment below or e-mail us.
