Sharon Stone seeks additional time with son
In an April filing with the San Francisco County Superior Court, Sharon Stone moved to alter the child custody agreement currently in place with ex-husband Phil Bronstein as it pertains to their 8-year-old son Roan Joseph. According to the document, obtained by Extra, Phil was awarded primary physical custody of Roan in October 2007 — an arrangement the 50-year-old actress now seeks to modify.
In addition to Roan, Sharon is mom to Laird Vonne, 3, and Quinn Kelly, 2.

Does anyone know why primary custody was either taken away from Sharon or not awarded to her in the first place? We just don’t hear much about this family really.

Do all three of her children have the same father? If so why is she only fighting to get physical custody of her one son. and like the first poster asked, why was her originally awarded primary physical custody? I assume because of her work schedule etc?!?

No, her first son is the only one she adopted with her ex-husband. The other two she adopted by herself.

Hi Cori,
All 3 sons are adopted although I believe Roan was adopted when they were still married. Her other 2 sons were adopted by Sharon herself.

Yeah, that’s right she adopted Roan with her then-husband and adopted the two others later, after their divorce.
So now she wants Roan to be only hers like the two other kids.
Wow, three boys and one mama. She must have a lot of energy!
I think she’s really courageous to have adopted three boys and being single.

I imagine that her husband was awarded primary custody (which I imagine is only primary physical custody, not legal), because her son is school age. And being school age, his father could provide a more stabile and consistent environment than she could with her schedule and travel commitments.

Steph, I also don’t think she wants Roan to be only hers. According to the post, she is asking for a change in the custody agreement, not asking to have sole legal or physical custody.

Huh. I always thought her adoption of Roan was like Angelina’s adoption of Maddox….when Angie was married to Billy Bob, she solely adopted Maddox. I thought Sharon was the sole parent who adopted Roan. Things you learn.

It really makes me sad that stable, healthy couples can never adopt a child because of waiting lists and financial reasons, yet Sharon Stone has three adopted boys. She obviously can support them financially, but it really makes me question the system. I know that she is not the only one to have seemingly preferential treatment, Rosie O’Donnell is one as well. I know money can’t buy happiness, but it sure seems to be able to get a child.

Kate I don’t think her busy schedule and travel commitments can be the only reason. Phil got custody last year after he was already in school. Plus Sharon doesn’t seem to work as much as she use to & Phil has a job that keeps him pretty busy also.. I don’t blame her for wanting to change it.
I thought the same thing too Rosie. Until I heard this news I didn’t think Phil was in Roan’s life let alone having custody. Must be hard for Sharon not to have custody & live hundreds of miles away from her son.

Umm….I’m confused. After reading the document it says Phil is the petitioner & that Roan lives with Sharon. Or is that just stating what Sharon wants? Am I reading the document right?

Alisa, you’re right. After looking at the actual petition, Bronstein is the one filing a petition for a change in the custody order. It looks essentially like he is asking for legal custody to remain as is, but for physical custody to be awarded to him, rather than him.
I see custody petitions fairly often, and this one seems pretty clear that HE is the one petitioning for more time with his son.

Actually Kate, I think it is Sharon that is asking for the change. She is stated to be the respondent, and the motion seems to be filed by the respondent. I am guessing Phil was the original petitioner, in the case which resulted in him getting physical custody of their son, and Sharon is filing a motion in that action. I had no idea they were in court regarding Roan, and as I had not read anything about any dispurte between them, I had therefore assumed they had sorted out issues relating to him by agreement.
