Matthew Broderick: “We’re going to have a real summer”

When your parents are Ferris Bueller and Carrie Bradshaw, life can move pretty fast. Luckily for James Wilkie Broderick, 5 ½, this summer will be about making time for play. In the June 29th edition of the Los Angeles Times, dad Matthew Broderick, 46, dishes on the family’s vacation plans. "This is his five-year-old summer," says Matthew of James, "and there won’t be another."

Of the family’s summer home in the tony Hamptons area of Long Island, Matthew says James "has a great time out there."

We’re in Amagansett, we live on a street where there’s lots ofchildren. So he gets a community. We went out there the other day, andthese little girls were blowing up balloons that you attach a littleengine to and they go up in the air. And there he was for two hours.

As far as James’ taste in movies go, Matthew says he "will critique a movie that he sees," particularly big summer blockbusters.

He will describe in tremendous detail Transformers or the pandaone, Kung Fu Panda. He loved that. I saw Speed Racer with him. He seemed to like it.

Matthew says he has the whole summer off, as does wife and mother, Sarah Jessica Parker, 43.
