Camila Alves, Levi McConaughey released from hospital
Model Camila Alves and newborn son Levi were released from Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center around 3:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon, People.com and UsMagazine.com confirm. New father Matthew McConaughey, 38, carried the infant to the car and sat with him in the back, while a tired-looking Camila, 25, rode shotgun. The family returned to their Malibu home, where gushing grandma Kay McConaughey — who had arrived earlier in the day — was ready for duty!
Levi Alves McConaughey was born at 6:22 p.m. on Monday, July 7th, and is the first child for Matthew and Camila.

does anyone know if she had levi via c-section? i am assuming she did since she just got released.
well i hope the new family is settling into life at home!

Jacky, she might not have had a c-section. I don’t know if they do in the US, or even still in the UK, but it was common practice to keep first-time mothers in baby in hospital for 3 days. My mum was with me, but was allowed to be released on the same day as giving birth with my siblings as they weren’t her first child.

What does ‘rode shotgun’ mean? That Camila was driving? I am confused
Rachel; these days in the UK there’s no need to stay overnight even with your first child, although the hospital will accommodate you if you wish to.
My Mum did too though, in fact when I was born they stayed in for a week and learned all about babycare whilst in there! Sounds like a good idea of you fancy it, but I was desperate to get home with my babies.

Generally we stay a day or 2 after a non-complicated vaginal delivery (in Canada, anyways). Often mothers are discharged after 24hrs if they feel well enough. I’ve had 3 uncomplicated vaginal deliveries and stayed 2 days each time. (I could have gone home the next day, but I enjoyed the comfort the nurses gave me while I stayed)
My girlfriend had her baby via c-section on a Friday and came home on the Monday.
Congrats to them and I hope they are enjoying their precious new boy!!

I thought C-section as well since I’m used to hearing about a new celeb mom being back home resting the same day or the day following first child or not.

Riding shotgun in the front passenger seat…
July 11th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
I was in 3 full days with my first son and 4 days with my second son (due to some hemorraghing issues). Both were vaginal births. Camila was in not even 3 full days, sounds like. In Monday night and left Thurs afternoon. Maybe they will talk about it in the baby interview, I heard OK Mag will be featuring them in a few weeks.

great – i bet they must be exhausted. her pregnancy was beautiful though. she was shopping until the last couple days – impressive. i’m sure little Levi is going to be very cute and healthy with parents like them.

Riding shotgun means that she was in the front passenger seat. She may have had a c-section or they may have needed to observe the baby for any number of reasons. There are many reasons for an extended stay. Most importantly, she and the baby are healthy and safely home. Best wishes!

Non-complicated vaginal delivery for me and still was in more than 48 hours. Little one wouldn’t nurse and they wouldn’t discharge him until he was eating… I wish I could have gotten out of there earlier but I think it’s a very good thing we didn’t!!!!

Aw, I’m so happy for the couple! I absolutely love the baby’s name. It’s fast becoming my favorite boy name!
I can’t wait to see the baby!

Ah thanks for clearing that up Ruthella, I knew someone who had a baby recently and she stayed in a couple of days, wasn’t sure if it was still common practice or not.
Personally I think I’d like to spend a day or so in hospital after having a first child, just in case.

In czech its still very common the new mothers stay 5 or more days after no complications, unless they are eager to get home. Some like to stay, get a rest, learn something and make sure the baby eats before they go home

here in Italy, women stay in the hospital 2 or 3 days after a vaginal birth, and 5 days if c-section. I stayed 3 days, and mine was a vaginal birth with no complications.
Can’t wait to see Levi’s pictures!

I just wanted to say I appreciate that the stories posted CBB and People.com actually acknowledged Camila. The title on the other site was something like “Matthew McConaughey and Levi Leave Hospital” and it seemed to totally discount that Camila was the one who gave birth! Maybe I’m the only one who thought that was weird.

I had a c section for my second baby. he was born thurs morning and i was home friday afternoon. i was desperate to get home to my other little boy!! I’m in the UK but I’m pretty sure it’s not the norm to be out so quick after a c section!

My goodness, I can’t believe how much people care so much about whether this poor girl had a c-section or a natural birth. Main thing is both mom and baby are healthy.
Chances are she could very well have had a c-section (either for medically necessary reasons or by choice – the rate of c-sections in private hospitals in Brazil is at 80% so many Brazilians prefer going the elective c-section route). If you look at the pics of Matthew and Camila leaving the hospital on x17online.com you will see that she is wearing all white, which in my opinion means she had a c-section because I’ve heard from friends who have had natural deliveries that you still bleed even after giving birth so maybe not so wise to wear all white.
I hope this is not going to spark another c-section vs. natural delivery debate. Each person should have the right to deliver how they want and not be judged by anybody.
Congrats to Camila and Matt! I’m looking forward to seeing the pics.

Gisele, you bleed (called lochia) whether you have a vaginal OR surgical delivery. So I wouldn’t use that as reasoning…
July 11th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
I had a vaginal birth and was in the hospital for almost 4 days after my son was born. He was an 11 pounder and my doc just wanted to make sure I was ok. I would have loved to be out after 2 days.
July 11th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Gisele- I don’t think anyone here was debating. i myself was just curious. they seem like the type of couple who would have wanted a natural birth, but i could be wrong. and if i am, it doesn’t really matter. i am totally for people delivering their babies however they choose. i just hope they choose the best thing for them and the baby.

I find it funny that they mentioned she looked tired. She just gave birth and has a newborn, of course she is tired!
Best of luck to them, I love the name and can’t wait to see pictures!

With my first baby I stayed three nights and with my second i stayed 12 hours and with my third I spent one night. They wanted me to stay the three days with baby #1 because I was 17 when I had him and it helped me to heal and lern more about babies(despite the fact that I took prenantal classes, had doula mentoring, and one on one classes with the health nurse and coucellors at our pregnancy outhreach program). And thank god! I needed it!
July 11th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
Gisele – I wish someone had told me I wasn’t supposed to bleed after my cesarean, because I did. LOL! Everyone bleeds after a baby is cesarean. FWIW, I stayed 5 days after my cesarean, and 2-3 days after each of my subsequent vaginal deliveries.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:10 am
I stayed in for around 48 hours when I delivered my first baby vaginally. I needed to stay in to help deal with the pain. They don’t send you home with more than ibuprofen and I certainly needed more than that for a little bit.
I can’t imagine going home the same day in that much pain!
July 12th, 2008 at 10:03 am
OK, if dad was in the back with the baby and mom was riding shotgun, then who drove the car?
July 12th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Erin: a driver, a friend, a family member? Does it really matter?
I’m very curious to see this baby, I think he’ll be beautiful because of the mix.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
I think it was mentioned that she looked tired because during her entire pregnancy she looked totally fantastic and was always out shopping.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Gisele, there is nothing wrong with people having discussions about c-section and vaginal birth. These discussions help people get the information to each other, compare experiences, and learn from each other, so then they and others can make decisions they wouldnt makeotherwise. These discussions benefit everyone
