Christina Aguilera ‘Rock The Vote’ PSA released
The much anticipated collaboration between Christina Aguilera and Rock The Vote has finally been unveiled. In the brand new public service announcement the 27-year-old songstress is seen gently rocking her now 6-month-old son Max Liron, swaddled in the American flag, as she sings ‘America The Beautiful’ a capella.
Max is the first child for Christina and her husband Jordan Bratman.

That is one of the most beautiful PSA’s I’ve ever seen.

Thats a sweet and beautiful PSA!!

I never really liked Christina or Brit the way they dressed at such a young age etc… but this is why Christina will contiunue her music on top and I think Brit will soon die out like other pop tarts. Christina has the most beautiful voice. When you take it all away the big shows and sexy outfits underneath she is still an AMAZING singer without all the special sound machines and effects, and she seems to have become a beautiful woman and mother. I have so much more respect for her now. That was beautiful.

That was wonderful.

Completely agree Kimberly

I love how tender she is with Max. I’ve always been a fan of hers, because she has an amazing voice, and she’s matured a lot.

Lovely!

i was watching the full minute on youtube the other night on my ipod while i was laying down and i was falling asleep listening to it because it was so soft and so well done…from what i heard max was so well behaved they were able to do the psa with no problems

Yes Christina does have a beautiful voice, and I’ve thought so since I first saw & heard her in the video for that song from Mulan, from back in 1998. In that video she wore a pantsuit & jacket, so she mostly showcased her voice, so that’s why when I her video for “Genie” a year or two later I’d thought she’d sold out to the industry.
I’m glad that she’s gone back to a more elegant/classic style in the past few years, and I agree with elisabeth that Christina will probably be able to maintain her singing career far longer than Britney, etc., barring medical malpractice like what happened to Julie Andrews.

Doesn’t anyone else think it’s disrespectful that he’s in an American flag? You’re not supposed to wear a flag….

Beautiful PSA!!!

If I lived in the States, I’d vote! I love how she has her son wrapped in the flag – symbolic.
July 13th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
She has terrific talent, I love her voice when she’s not wailing and drastically oversinging.
July 13th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Watching her sing makes me wonder why Britney, Jessica,Ashley and others are famous! She is the real deal! What a great voice. Her son and husband are lucky to hear that all of the time.

This is a violation of the Standards of Respect of our American Flag.
“The flag should not be used as “wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery”,[1] or for covering a speaker’s desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general (exception for coffins). Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top.”
Her voice is beautiful, her baby is adorable, the concept is great (the lullaby thing), but he should not be wrapped in a flag.

Love the PSA.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
nicole, oh please.
Violations of respect? Please.
There are WAY bigger issues.
Her singing and wrapping her son up are showing her respect. It was beautiful.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Good point, Nicole. Of course, most people don’t care about respecting the flag. Plus, as a celebrity, Christina might think she is above all of that. I think the idea behind the video is nice, but not well thought-out and slightly tacky.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Nicole, you’re right that it is a violation of the standards of respect. But at the risk of sounding kind of unpatriotic I’ve got to say that I love the symbolism of baby Max being wrapped in cloth representative of the USA–the country his life will no doubt be interwoven with his entire life. I really liked the PSA.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Nicole (8:24) What about in the Olympics when the athletes wrap themselves in the flag, should they be jailed for flag disrespect?
July 13th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
I hope everyone goes to vote and not just in the USA but all over the world.
About the flag used as something else: I was in a restaurant last week and they had made lamps from flags from all over the world. Looked quite nice, but I guess it’s not in line with that respect standard!
July 14th, 2008 at 12:24 am
Oh wow, the last comment talking about the symbolism of Max wrapped in the flag was actually posted by me (Erica) not Nicole. That’s what happens when you surf the net while multi-tasking at work.
July 14th, 2008 at 12:54 am
I think people view the American flag along a wide spectrum of beliefs. The statute above is probably just trying to protect some command of respect, which may get diluted if we see the flag everywhere. I must admit that there is something powerful about seeing the flag draped over a military coffin or see it rippling in the air at a foreign US embassy.
I think Nicole has a legitimate opinion that shouldn’t be so cavalierly dismissed. The flag can be an extremely personal thing. I know it is for my naturalized parents. And I know it is for my friend who’s serving in Iraq.
With that said, the PSA is quite brilliantly executed, and I think the flag only enhances the message.
July 14th, 2008 at 5:59 am
even with the heavy make up and hair done all up, she looks so young! it’s almost like she’s carrying her baby brother, haha.
July 14th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Thanks for featuring Christina’s new PSA. You all bring up great comments, about the flag and how we should respect it. This is an issue that will probably be addressed by the next Congress, so if you really want to weigh in, register to vote.

Well we hashed this a while ago. I am on the side of it being offensive, to me personally. It is my opinion. And veiwing Julia (from Rock the Vote) it did what they wanted, people are talking about it. I guess as long as the ends justify the means….*shrug*…
Oh and I am 32 and I registered to vote when I turned 18, I have never missed an election, even when there is one thing on the ballot. I do absentee ballots when I am out of town for an election and I am training to become an election judge as well.

You know, it’s not like I made up the Standards of Respect. It is Section 1 of Title 4 of the United States Code, and became Public Law in 1942. I think it’s sad that so many people can look over certain laws that they deem unimportant, yet be so passionate about others. If you believe in our Democracy, you should embrace the laws created to govern it. If Christina had wrapped her child in a red, white, and blue blanket that was NOT a flag, the symbolism would have been known, and a law would not have been broken. Do I believe she should go to jail? No, of course not. Do I think that Rock the Vote should promote good citizenship and adhere to a Federal Law? Absolutely.
