Regis Philbin Welcomes New Grandson to Set

Live with Regis and Kelly co-host Regis Philbin, 76, unveiled ‘Mr. Trouble’ on Wednesday, aka his grandson William Xavier Schur, 5-months on Friday. By popular demand, Regis’ daughter J.J. Philbin brought the baby to the set with her husband Michael Schur. The couple revealed that their OB/Gyn was not aware of William’s famous grandfather when he delivered the baby in February; During a post-natal visit the doctor happened to be in J.J.’s hospital room as Regis was on the television announcing news of the birth to the world.  Recalls Michael,

We told (the doctor) to watch, and he just said ‘That’s surreal.’ And then he just went back to work.

J.J. said that Regis and her mom Joy Philbin are yet to pick out names they’d like to go by with their grandson, although per William’s nickname of ‘Mr. Trouble,’ Regis suggested that the baby could call him ‘Mr. Dynamite.’

Michael Schur is not only an Emmy winning writer for the Office, he played Mose Schrute, Dwight’s brother, *and* he writes for one of my favorite baseball blogs. He posted the cutest picture of the baby there:

Very cute baby …. congratulations to the happy family.

  3. Carine Says:

I thought he had other grandchildren by his older children? Or am I wrong?

  4. JC Says:

He could have other grandchildren by his older children but it seems he is not on good terms with them. He only mentioned his daughters with Joy when he picked up his Lifetime Achievement Emmy last month.

  5. Robin Says:

When Live with Regis and Kelly celebrated their 20th anniversary, both girls were shown on screen, talking to Regis, Joy and Kelly, at the same time.

That was when Joy congratulated her daughter on the upcoming baby. I guess only one is married right now. ;-)

  6. kitty Says:

I know for a fact that Regis has two older kids born in the 1960’s. I believe his son is mentally challenged and lives in an assisted care type of facility. He never, ever talks about them.

  7. Maddie Says:

I was actually at the show yesterday and gosh little Will is adorable! It was funny though coz the whole time he was on camera, everyone around was trying to get him to smile, but as soon as the camera had stopped rolling he was smiling away! Verrrry cute baby! Also Kelly asked J.J if he was sleeping through the night yet and she was like “God I wish!”. Kelly was also giving her advice on what solid food J.J should start Will on. Bananas! Kelly said its messy but they love it!

  8. Stephany Says:

Aw, I saw this episode and I was hoping Willy was going to be on the show. He is sooooo chunky! Haha. He is adorable.

  9. anonymous Says:

Ah! William looks a lot like Regis. He’s too cute!

  10. jossy Says:

Firstly, Regis’ son, Danny, from his first marriage has a physical disability–in a wheelchair–believe he has deformed legs.
Last we heard we was working at the Pentagon.
He hasn’t mentioned him in a long time.
Was a bit surprized today (8/12/08) when the guest co-host asked Regis if William was his first grandchild—He said yes but not firmly.
I seem to recall that he had grandchildren from his first marriage.
If so, thought that was bad form. How would you feel if you were that grandchild?
