Body After Baby: J.Lo, Jaime Pressly and Mel B’s Secrets
Three celebrity trainers give PEOPLE the scoop on their client’s bikini-worthy post-baby bodies. (Sounds like a lot of hard work to us! We’re tired just thinking about it.)
Mel B: To get the Spice Girl in shape for Dancing with the Stars, trainer Joey Kormier did twice-daily cardio sessions with the 33-year-old singer. These days, her shape is maintained with 60-minute video workouts, every day.
Jennifer Lopez: J.Lo’s isn’t just losing her baby weight, she’s preparing for a triathlon! Trainer Gunnar Peterson says the star alternates 35-minute runs with swimming and 50-minute bike rides, up to six times a week.
Jaime Pressly: Mike Jones, who works with the sitcom star (pictured) daily, tells PEOPLE that "keeping her butt firm is definitely a focus!" The My Name is Earl star trains up to two hours a day.

Wow, you can tell these girls have nannies/home help. I don’t have the time or energy to do the washing up some days, let alone fit in an hour or two of exercise!
Good on them though.

I could NEVER be that dedicated to exercise. I do work out about 35-45 minutes every day, but I skip a day every once in awhile. And cleaning house burns calories too!

I agree with Helene. I must be nice. I would love to have all that time to get into shape. I’m lucky if I get time to myself let alone to workout.

They look great and good for them for keeping themselves in shape. I feel kind of sad though for their new babies- that time is so precious and someone is else is getting to spend that time with them, not their mommies. Hopefully it’s Daddy time!

it must be nice to have enough help to have time to exercise

Funny how you never read things like “J. Lo loses all of her baby weight by going to Curves 3 times a week and joining Weight Watchers!”
I wish I had their kind of money and free time to have a trainer drag me out of bed at 5am and do nothing but workout all day while my kids play at home with our live-in nannies, housekeepers, gardener, chef, and personal driver.

Well… Some will totally hate Nicole Kidman’s body after the birth of her daughter. She looks AMAZING !

I thought it was dangerous for women to lose the post pregnancy weight too quickly!
July 20th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
I think it’s important to remember (even if we don’t agree with it/think it’s safe, etc.) that “looking fabulous” is part of these women’s jobs! Their livelyhood pretty much depends on it!
Their lives can NEVER really be like ours or vice versa. It’s a whole different kind of life that I’m actually glad I don’t get to experience. I wouldn’t WANT to have that kind of pressure!
July 20th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Well, that explains why new celebrity mums get back into shape so quickly. They do nothing but workout! Omg, two hours a day? I can barely manage half an hour a day and I don’t even have any children, just a really busy job! Than again, that is what a celebrity’s job is, to be in the movies, telly, or on the runway/magazine. So yeah, they have to spend all their time working out. That’s why they have so much money, yeah? So really, it is pointless for non-celebrities to compare themselves to celebrities per body image. We simply do not have the resources to pay someone $100,000 a year to follow us around barking orders to do sit-ups or monitor everything we eat. So yeah, let’s all give ourselves a break and stop fretting our bodies aren’t as slim or toned as say like Kari Russell was 2 weeks after giving birth!
By the way, if any of you have access to the channel where the show “How to Look Good Naked” airs,do take a look at it. Gok Wan and Carson Kressley are so funny and yet they really help the women in those shows.

I do applaud these women for getting back into shape soon after having their babies. Of course it must be easier for them as they have personal trainers that push them to exercise when they don’t feel like it, chefs to cook low-fat & healthy meals, and they have care-givers that provide child care while they are working out.
However I think we as “normal”, every day people can also find the time to do SOME exercise. I think we find too many excuses not to. I found that waking up about an hour earlier than I use to in the morning is plenty of time to get in a good hard workout. I’m a workout-aholic but even if I wasn’t I know I could fit in 30 mins. Skip lunch and go for a walk. Do a 25 min Taebo session with a Billy Blanks DVD before taking a shower in the morning. Jump rope for 20 mins before your evening shower. I find it hard to believe that we don’t have 30 minutes to spare in our day for exercise. If you read a lot, but you want to loose weight, well jump on a stationary bike and read til your heart’s content!
We CAN fit it in, if you think about it you fit in so many things into your day that you could let go of one or two of them to fit in exercise 30 mins of exercise 3-4 times a week. And if we took advantage of weekend mornings you would get two days right there. I make it a point to get up and do my hour of exercise around 9:30 on Saturdays or Sundays. Or if your kids are up earlier then make a sacrifice and get up at 8:00 and do a quick 30 mins.
Staying in shape and losing weight is about sacrificing. Even the famous folks with money are making sacrifices…I’m sure they would prefer to eat burgers and fries and not work out, but they can’t, they have to give it up and modify their diets just like we do.
Okay, I’m off my soapbox. I’m not trying to start anything. But I have a friend that complains about her weight and always says she doesn’t have time to work out but she takes an hour lunch, she watches at least an hour of TV a day, and sleeps til 10:00 on weekends…but she doesn’t have time to work out?! So I just felt compelled to vent here because this is what I have been wanting to say to my friend for years! LOL!

Daniela, your advice to “Skip lunch and go for a walk” is very wrong. No one should skip any meals. Especially for nursing mums your body needs the energy and nutrients from at least three small meals plus a couple healthy snacks a day (not those huge platter-size plates nor an order of fries from McDs). Rather than suggest people skip lunch, suggest they wake up earlier in the day or workout before dinner or at least two hours before they go to sleep.
July 20th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
DLR, Daniela did suggest that people wake up earlier…… I know I have to, and I hate every second of it and want to quit every morning… but damn I feel good AFTERward and in general when I work out. I feel healthier and its really for your family’s sake in the long run.. working out 30 minutes a day can help prevent a LOT of diseases (heart disease,Diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer etc.)
July 20th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Wake up early with kids at 8? Geez, if that is waking up early….I would be in heaven! Waking up early for me is 5:30 since my daughter is up and at em at 6:30. Also, the skip lunch to walk part, I don’t get. Maybe she means to do that during your lunch break and eat at your desk before or after, but it sure sounds like she meant skipping the meal all together, which is bad avise. Skipping any meal is bad for you.

Daniela I totally agree with you. Once I had my baby I went back to exercising. My husband watched our baby, in order for me to do so. I would also get up at 5 a.m. to to go running while my baby slept. I feel that you can always find time to take care of yourself. I think people make excuses.
July 20th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Working out is hard work and it takes alot of motivation in order to see any reaults. I have been working out 5 days a week for 1 hour a day after work. I haven’t seen much results but a small change. However I do feel great. I sleep better and have alot more energy. Anyone can do it. You just have to really want to. Now I need to work on counting my calories so I can lose 30 pounds. It’s great these celebrities can lose weight so fast but their careers depend on it and they probably have more time to do it considering they are not working a 9-5 job.
July 20th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
I agree with Becky and DLR on Daniela’s comment. Skip lunch and go for a walk?! First of all, I have to feed my 3 kids lunch during lunchtime. They’re all up by 7am at the latest. I’m hard pressed to have them all settled and asleep by 10pm. I make a TON of sacrifices throughout my day and I will NEVER find time to work out. I hardly have the time to shower. And that’s not making excuses, those are the cold hard facts. Daniela has made it sound like if you’re not working out you’re lazy and just making excuses. Ever heard of nursing? Can’t skip meals while you’re nursing. You need to eat to have milk for the baby. Nursing a baby burns 500 calories a day. Nursing takes up HOURS a day when you do it. WAY harder, more time consuming, and more draining than working out.

ggg – that’s great that your husband watches your child so you can workout, but what about the single moms out there? i have no one to watch my son so i can go for a run at 5am. i do agree that working out is important and you need to make time for it, but some of us really have a hard time finding that time. i’m another mom who will attest that even finding 5 free minutes for a shower is a triumph. please don’t act like those of us who don’t workout for every day are lazy and making excuses. trust me, i’d kill for 30 minutes to myself to do aerobics or go for a run…that would be such a treat!
July 20th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Well I own a gym and I see plenty of moms, working moms and stay at home moms who find the time to workout, so if you really want too you can. Don’t get me wrong having a chef, a trainer, nannies, etc defintley helps more, but there are 24hrs in a day and if someone wants to fit 45 minutes or even an hour for a workout, you defintley can. If you can find time to chat on the computer, talk on the phone, watch tv. etc, you can fit in working out if it really is important to someone. If you don’t want to stay fit or don’t care, than that’s also fine because it does take some work and sacfiaces, but I do agree with daniela some people make too many excuses, because that’s the easy way out. Like she said whether your famous, a mom, nonfamous, rich, poor, etc, you have to have the control not to eat a cheeseburger with fries sometimes, so I still give the celebrities credit for working hard at their bodies and having will power. And that doesn’t mean that makes them a bad mom or a bad person, just because it’s important how they look. It’s not easy for anybody to do crunches, jogging, treadmill on a regular basis, and watching what you put in your mouth, but the results are nice and in my opnion it gives me more energy for everything else in my life

I live in Houston and I just joined a YMCA out here to tone up. For 60 bucks a month its unlimited workouts and they will watch my 2 1/2 year old for up to 2 hours while i workout. I agree, to many women make excuses. You can always find time if its important to you.
July 21st, 2008 at 8:20 am
I completely agree with Daniela and Brooke. The “single mom” and “no time/kids” excuse doesn’t fly with me. Have kids? Um, take them WITH YOU?! Go on a walk with the baby! Walking is great exercise and can really burn a lot of calories, especially pushing children! Go on a bike ride with your kids, chase them around the yard, do a yoga for kids video. Not only are you getting exercise – you’re teaching your children how important it is to get exercise! They are going to grow up and if they don’t know anything about a healthy lifestyle, they’ll spend their days inside, playing on the computer or watching TV. (This happened to me!!!)
I hate exercise with a passion. I need so much motivation to exercise. There are a million things (such as a dentist visit) that I’d rather do than exercise. But I know I have to do it, not only to lose weight, but to live a healthy and long life!
I just don’t get the excuse that “I have kids, I can never exercise” because it’s just that – an excuse. Kids need exercise as well and you’re doing your children a serious misfortune if you aren’t teaching them that.

Daniela you made a very good point. And I don’t think she meant skip a meal…merely walk during that period and eat your desk. Plenty of people do it. Or have lunch and then go walk it off. Depends how much time you get for lunch. Anyway, she’s right and lot of people make excuses as to why they can’t lose weight. I used to be one of them. Now I get up on the weekends at 5:30am and go running and work out after work. It’s all about will and how bad you want it. Sure these celebrities have more resources than the average person but they still have the desire to lose the weight.

I think that if you really really wanted to lose the baby weight, you would, or you would find a way to.But the problem with our society is MOTIVATION.Seriously, look at all the obese people out there. And it is not as hard as you think. I am naturally lazy and cheap, so I try to do things that work for me.I love to sit at my computer or infront of my tv, so I bought (instead of a desk chair) an exercise bike with an actual seat ($50 on kijiji). So now whenever i’m doing either of those things (like now) i’m cycing also. I’ve cut out a lot of juice and pop (they tend to have the same if not more calories).I don’t eat fat free stuff, I eat the regular stuff, just in moderation. I walk everywhere (unless it is super far). And once a week, my hubby an I go for a walk and walk up these stairs that go to the mountain (I lost 20 pounds doing this). The best thing I ever invested in was the video “Pilates for Dummies”. After you do that workout you feel soo good and I have insomnia,so I sleep like a baby.I think its a cop out when people say “I can’t”. You should have had my mom lol. Its like back home, where kids start school at 2 (and they learn their 1 times tables and to read and stuff).People over here don’t do that because its not the “norm”. Most people are like “that’s impossible”. Errmm, no its not, if its your only choice and you don’t want people calling your kid a dum dum. You will try your hardest to make that kid walk/talk and potty train before 2 hits. You just think to yourself “I can do it” and try and your kids will learn from that. Lead by example.

Stephany –
What I was saying in my previous comment was about a typical “work out” – not playing with my kids or walking with a stroller. It is not an excuse to just not have an hour every day to set aside for myself to “work out” – like at a gym or with a tape. It’s an accomplishment to have 10 minutes to take a shower some days, or get to the grocery store with all 3 of them. That’s a major accomplishment, plus having meals for a family of 5 every day. I have 3 kids under 4 and I’m expecting again. I don’t think I’m making an excuse. If you consider walking with a stroller and playing outside with your kids exercise then I’m doing it 24/7/365. I’m just saying there’s not enough “me” time to go around for “work outs” like Daniela was saying. She makes it sound like moms are lazy and making excuses if they can’t “work out” every day. “Me” time gets less and less the more kids you have. BTW, I’ve never had a problem losing baby weight though and I’ve never formally had to exercise. I’m just busy enough that it naturally comes off within a year which is completely normal. The Daniela comment just bothered me for all the busy moms of multiple children out there. Not a lot of time on your hands.

Jay – Thank you – You are completely right. I didn’t mean skip a meal. I would never advocate to skip meals. I meant instead of taking an hour for a meal, use 30 minutes to take a walk and the other 30 to eat. I doubt we need an entire 60 minutes to eat lunch!
