Coolio Says No to Credit Cards for His Kids

CoolioFans of reality television can add another show to their roster — Coolio’s Rules will debut on the Oxygen network this fall. The series will chronicle the lives of rapper Coolio, 44, and his six children, including son Artis and daughters Jackie, Brandi and Artisha, the four of whom recently participated in a press conference to announce the show. At the event, Coolio was asked if he’s given his kids credit cards.  His answer? "Hell to the no!"  He added,

We’d be living downtown in a cardboard box. I give them cash. Sometimes I take them shopping. Most often not. I’m not cheap, but I’m thrifty.

The children are Coolio’s with ex-wife Josefa Salinas.

LOL at Hell to the No! Sounds like my father when I was younger!

  2. sarita Says:

What parent would give their child a credit card? They have no need for one.

Believe it or not there are plenty of kids with credit cards out there. Maybe because we use credit/debit cards so much nowadays that parents just think it’s easier. I think children should learn about real money (cash) to learn the value of a dollar. Otherwise it would be too easy for them to just swipe the card and spend, spend, spend without knowing that there’s actual money involved!

Also I didn’t realize Coolio had six kids!

Coolio is too funny! I didn’t realize he and his wife were divorced, though. When did that happen :(

Anyway, my mom gave me a credit card when I was 17 b/c it is more convenient than cash and also we had one of those cards where you get frequent flier miles so if you are going to buy something you might as well get something extra for it. Plus then we could earn interest on our money for an extra month. But I did have to pay her for my share of the charges every month. I was a total tightwad back then though. If I was a big spender my mom probably wouldn’t have given me a card.

I’m almost 30 now and I use my credit card for almost everything. I have never once not paid off my monthly balance in full.
