Lora, I think it's because in the context of what he is saying it is not meaning to be a rude thing. He's just saying that having a child is hard, and it's up to mum and dad to teach them all about the world. So in that sense they are like aliens.

I love that quote about having to teach babies to be people. It's true on so many levels.
