‘Belen” is a very common Catholic name, especially among latinos. It’s a female name that means Bethlehem. In the Bible, the city of Bethlehem is called ‘Belen’. By the way, I like the way Antonio and his wife spelled their daughter’s middle name ‘Elysabeth’. Nice name….not too common at all.

I think Belen is also a city in Valencia County New Mexico….Not sure if this has any importance in their name selection but maybe?

Mary Beth, I hope the name choice has nothing to do with Belen NM, I lived in Los Lunas most of my life which is the neighboring town and no one liked Belen. Never thought of it as a name because of that but it does sound prettier to me now.

There are some really nice comments on this blog. I actually know the couple and the choose of their children’s names come from each of their latino families. They like old spanish names so I believe each of their children are named after older family members. Tomas (pronouced – To-Mas) and Belen (pronouced Ba-LEn) are two adorable children with very grown up names. It’s difficult to type the true spanish form on our American keyboards, which doesn’t type spanish stress marks.
Anyway, Congratulations to the couple. They deserve to be truly happy!
