Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman Ask Aussies for Respect During Visit
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have made the journey to Sydney, Australia numerous times, but the trip on Wednesday, August 6th had a special meaning — they were introducing their 4-week-old daughter Sunday Rose to their homeland and relatives. As the actress departed the private jet around 7:30 pm with her bundle of joy wrapped in white blankets, she was met by her father Dr. Antony Kidman, who hadn’t yet met his granddaughter. As the family left the Kingsford Smith jet base, decoy cars helped block the press and paparazzi from being able to follow the group to their harbor side home.
In a new interview with Breakfast With the Stars, the couple have made a plea with the press to leave them alone "so we can walk around our town." Keith admits that he "get[s] the interest. But at the same time, it’s our little girl … Sometimes when people come right up in your face … you think: ‘Good God, would you do that to anybody else’s child?’"
During the interview Nicole also shared that Sunday’s delivery went "very smoothly" and that "we had wonderful nurses at the hospital." The couple also revealed that their little girl nurses every three hours and Nicole believes Sunday "looks like Keith," with dad saying that "she’s a bit of a mix." However, she did get one thing from mum — Nicole revealed that "she’s got a little bit of hair," with a "bit of a reddish tint."

I didn’t realise there was that much interest in Sunday? I mean, I know there’s interest, but it’s not on the level of Brangelina is it? Maybe I’m mistaken lol!
August 7th, 2008 at 7:08 am
I don’t think anyone else can be at an Angelina level, ha. But Nicole is an ALister and Keith is super popular in his field, Nicole’s wanted a baby for so long, they’re both aussies, and there’s a huge interest while they are home. If you click the Daily telegraph link there are some weird pictures that show you how far they try to go. i think its nice that they made the request and hope it works.

I doubt the press will listen, especially since they haven’t released a picture of the baby.
phoebe- In Australia there definitely is. Nicole can do no wrong! I was living in Sydney when they got married, people sent each other “Happy Nicole wedding day!” texts. It was bizarre.

I doubt they will be left alone walking about there town, when our baby was little we could barely walt 10ft down the street with out a crowd of people asking about her and were not famous! We still get the occasonal people coming up to us now! Babies attract all kinds of strangers lol
August 7th, 2008 at 8:10 am
Those pleas to be left alone will not do any good. It’s going to be a feeding frenzy with the first pics being worth millions. Perhaps releasing a photo of her might reduce the frenzy a little at least.

Are people really doing what Keith said? Actually going up to them and demanding to see the baby? And from what I’ve read, it’s not just the paps, it’s ordinary people too. What on earth? It’s appalling that this poor man would even HAVE to make an appeal such as this.
I have no problem with a celeb sharing their baby’s pics, when it’s THEIR choice that’s fine, but when they ask to be left alone, why can’t people DO that?
I can’t imagine a stranger coming up to me that way and I don’t care what people say about ‘the price of celebrity’… at the end of the day they’re just people and they deserve the same privacy and respect the rest of us desire!
It’s just like what they did to Halle Berry in her own backyard. Disgusting.
I hope the press leaves them alone!

I can’t understnd Nicole Kidman… of course the press will hound her until they get a photo, so either a) do what Cate Blanchett did and let the media get a clear photo, and then they might leave you alone (after all, Cate’s at least as famous as Nicole, and never gets stalked by the paparazzi in the same way); or b) donate one or two personal pics, or do a photo spread, and satisfy people’s curiosity, so you won’t get followed at every turn…
I think Nicole Kidman’s behaviour is very attention-seeking, and feel that she brings on most of the paparazzi incidents herself. She’s an A-list celebrity, and this is the Faustian deal she’s struck, whether she likes it or not. But it doesn’t have to be as painful as she makes it…

Gianna-
Jennifer Aniston has said that strangers often come up to her to congratulate/console her on her pregnancy/engagement/marriage etc. People just forget they don’t really know these celebs, I guess.

ZaraB, unlike Cate Blanchett who gave birth in Oz and had all her family with her and could easily show off the baby as soon as he was born, Kidman didn’t have the priviledge and I doubt the paparazzi camp in front of Blanchett’s house for any kind of event. Whenever Kidman gets into Sydney, the paparazzi are camped outside her house for days. It is pretty much the done thing.
It is only on the arrival of her family in Sydney that the grandparents who were not in Nashville for the birth, uncle, aunt and cousins can meet the baby and why should she release a picture to the paparazzi before Sunday’s family meet her? Are the paparazzi and media important than her family?
It is funny people are reading this but don’t actually get what she is saying. Kidman and her husband are saying that they are not going to be hiding Sunday while they are in town because they will be taking her out and about but that at the same time if the papz are going to take pictures that they shouldn’t get too close so that she she is not scared or frightened. How on earth is that attention seeking? Do you think that if she released a picture that they would leave her alone?
BTW, she is doing exactly what Blanchett did. She didn’t release a picture, she simply went about her business and the pictures were taken.
As for people saying there isn’t as much interest in Kidman and Sunday compared to Jolie, don’t bet on it. According to PRWeekly, the most discussed birth in the media and on blogs in the month of July was Sunday Rose. The magazines may not have Kidman on the cover but there it is. In 2005, the most searched for wedding on Google was Kidman’s.
Yes, she is an A-lister but her daughter is not. And I applaud her and other celebs who don’t turn their kids into celebrities by getting them the covers on magazines.

“According to PRWeekly, the most discussed birth in the media and on blogs in the month of July was Sunday Rose.”
Yeah, but even without a survey I’m 100% sure that the most discussed birth this year is the Jolie-Pitt twins.

we may see Sunday yet…its true what you say sleekraven, why should we see her before her grandparents? now that they ve seen her maybe they might release a pic!!Listen to the breakfast show link….sooo cute!!! Unbelievable!!:)

Yeah, but even without a survey I’m 100% sure that the most discussed birth this year is the Jolie-Pitt twins.

I would have to agree, but of course things may be a bit different in Australia.
August 7th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Nope, they’re as Jolie-Pitt crazy there as the US is. New Idea canned their entire cover story and pushed their publishing date back when they got exclusive rights of the twins’ pictures. Their gossip is not that different because they got their stories from US tabloids like Star, Life & Style, etc. The only thing I notice that’s different is that they seem to care about Oprah’s love life a lot, haha.

I respect Nicole’s position. It’s the same as Halle’s: although she herself has to deal with celebs because she’s famous, her daughter didn’t ask for that. I think that should be respected by the paps. they can still take pics, just not shove themselves in her baby’s face. And same for strangers. I don’t think celebs should have to stay in their house with their new babies. :-/
August 7th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
I don’t understand people when they say “release a picture and they would stop following you”. If they choose not to release a picture, that doesn’t mean the pap has the right to chase them. They’re invading their privacy and you hold Nic and Keith responsible for not selling the picture of their kid? this whole baby photo-selling thing is crazy and very very creepy. Also, who has stopped chasing Suri, Shiloh, Kingston and all the other kids who appeared on the magazines covers? Just because she chooses not to do what everybody else is doing (and I dont care if some do it for charity), does not mean she’s attention-seeking, that’s very mean thing to say.
August 7th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
I feel a bit guilty because I really wish she had released a pic. I love Nicole and the only babies I wanted to see this year were Angelina’s twins and Sunday.
I hope she won’t be harassed and that the paps
won’t get a pic. Her wish should be respected.
August 7th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
I feel sorry for Nicole and Keith. In an ideal world the paps would respect them and give them space and privacy but of course they will not do that if they think they can get money so to me they have only two choices.
Nicole and Keith should keep baby Sunday in their home until they feel it is safe to take her out in public or they take her outside and deal with whatever media attention that will come their way. Baby Sunday is only a few weeks old, there is no reason why she has to leave the house except for doctor appointments and even them the doctor can come to their home. It is not fair but if keeping Sunday home is the only way the can assure her safety then they have to do it.
Does anyone know if Connor and Isabella have met Sunday. Since Nicole and Keith have made the effort to introduce Sunday to the rest of the family, I would assume that her two oldest children would be at the top of the list.
August 7th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
I am going to be rude now and give very little or no sympathy for the Urban family but if you do not wish to be hounded the by paps or just nosy people wanting to see the baby Just simply stay home. I am no celebrity but I too stay home because I do not wish to have anyone touch by newborn or I just don’t want to get aggreviated by any strangers.
August 7th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Stephanie what is your deal?? This NOT A COMPETITION! The Pitt twins have ZERO to do with this post so leave them out of it. We get it, you love the Pitts twins & they are most important babies in the world & the most loved babies in history.
Sunday’s birth is HUGE is Australia no matter how much you try & downgrade it.
I also don’t see anything attention seeking about Nicole’s actions. SHe’s not hiding the baby. She wanted her family to see the baby first, not the paps & the public. Also even if she did give out a pic it would NOT stop the paps & stragers from bugging her.
Debbie that is crazy!! SO they should just stay hoe for the rest of their lives??
August 7th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Alisa, I have read all posts in this thread and am puzzled as to why you thought Stephanie was turning it into a competition. Someone mentioned that Sunday was big news, and she wondered if that was comparatively the case, simply another discussion point, as all evolving conversations go through.
By the way, I live in Australia and personally don’t believe Nicole’s baby is “HUGE is Australia no matter how much you try & downgrade it”. There is a lot of interest certainly, but no more so than in the States.
August 7th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
i’m sorry, i have to say something. if the reason they aren’t releasing a photo of Sunday is because family members haven’t met her then that’s fine. But after everyone in the family has been properly introduced i think they should release a photo for the fans. afterall, who made them rich and famous? who gave them the lavish lifestyle they live? the people who buy their albums, wait in line to see their movies, and buy the magazines they are in. i’m just saying, a part of me understands the need for privacy and all, but they knew that going into a business in hollywood and they wouldn’t be where they are today without the fans and they shouldn’t be SO secretive about the baby.
August 7th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
I don’t believe celebrities owe us anything. They work hard for their money and most of them bust their butts for 15 sometimes 20 years before they blow up big. You go to see their movies, watch their TV shows, buy their albums out of free will. When I buy a box of Tide I don’t expect the CEO to send me a hand written letter and show me a picture of their kids just because I support his or her product. That is such limited thinking. Halle owes me an up close, detailed photo of her baby because I spent 11 dollars going to see BAPs?
She owes a fans a simple thank you for their support at the box office and nothing more. If you have a problem with the extraordinary salaries and gifts celebrities get from movie studios and record labels, then take your complaint to those executives. Obviously the studios think Nicole is worth every penny she is paid by them and Keith’s label thinks he’s work every penny he’s paid by them. If you don’t value her or his work then don’t support it with your dollars and don’t worry about Nicole’s baby.
Nicole and Keith made themselves famous by doing the best job they could in a line of work they love. It’s not easy to act and it’s certainly not easy to be a musician. If it were, we’d all be A-list actors and grammy winning musicians.

Alisa-
Huh? In my first post I even said that there’s definitely interest because people were so buzzed during their wedding. sleekraven’s the one who brought up the Jolie-Pitts; “As for people saying there isn’t as much interest in Kidman and Sunday compared to Jolie, don’t bet on it.” I just don’t think that’s true, is all. The rest Cora already said.
