Suri Cruise’s Afternoon Adventures

On a Thursday trip to the park, 2-year-old Suri Cruise smiled for the shutterbugs, met a few furry friends, waited patiently (with arms crossed!) and enjoyed a swing ride with mom Katie Holmes. Katie’s Broadway show, All My Sons, begins previews September 18th and will officially open on October 16th.

  1. Rose Says:

Suri is so cute! i love her waving at the dogs, it seems all little children love puppies!

  2. Harley Says:

Suri looks precious while Katie…I’m puzzled by her clothing choice as she usually makes great decisions.

  3. Angie Says:

She is definitely adorable and happy! But my word, do they ever put the child in play clothes? We always see Suri in formal-style dresses, perhaps she likes being the little princess.

  4. Kathryn Says:

What a cutie! I love her with her little arms crossed! :-) Too cute!

  5. dsmom Says:

OMG sooo cute! Suri is beautiful.

  6. Tammy Says:

She is always dressed so cute. I wonder if she is the one who insists on wearing dresses (even to play in!) I’m guessing so – I know I did when I was wee! :)

  7. lirpa2486 Says:

Suri’s too cute, but I’m not sure about Katie’s attempt to bring back the French-rolled jeans…some things are better left in the past :)

  8. Tara Says:

I’d love to know where she got Suri’s adorable dress.

  9. Lau Says:

Ahah, she seems to have a huge soft spot for furries ^__^
Also, she’s all Tom in that crossed arms picture. Adorable.

  10. lia Says:

I would love to see Suri dressed in play clothes at the park. She always seems dressed for a fashion show.

  11. MMM Says:

420 says tight rolling makes a mild comeback thanks to Katie:) Thanks Katie!

Anyway, Suri is adorable! She has tons of personality.

  12. TracyG Says:

Those jeans are part of Katie’s costume for her role on Broadway. She’s been wearing them for awhile now and another site confirmed that they aren’t “hers”, she takes Suri out when she breaks from rehearsals and doesn’t change…

Suri is darling and I agree, put that child in PLAY clothes. She most likely can’t play with abandon in a fancy shmancy dress all the time!

  13. Ellen Says:

I remember my daughter having a friend who always wanted to be dressed up and wear her party shoes. I thought the mom was nutty at the time for not playing hard ball and making the child wear play clothes. In retrospect I think that the mom was wise…..why do battle with a two year old over the small stuff? I would guess that young Miss Cruise is a little girly-girl who lives in her favorite dresses and would sleep in her gold mary-janes if she could.

  14. loralie Says:

Suri looks so much like my niece. I wonder if they ever let Suri wear play clothes and get dirty?

  15. kim Says:

I know the old saying goes if you don’t have anything thing nice to say don’t say it at all, but I must say that Katie looks nothing like she used to. I know people change and styles evolve over the years but to me and we are about the same age she looks old and unhappy . You see her smile but it’s just not the same as it used to be. It could be being followed all the time but she seems like she’s lost something a shine so to speak about her.. She’s lost alot of weight. When she was dating tom cruise she wss very feminine and IMO she’s lost something. SORRY. I hope nodody is offended. :)

  16. sarita Says:

I think people don’t realize that a child doesn’t need “play clothes” to play. They will play anyway! As long as the parents don’t care that the dress gets dirty, I don’t see the issue here. Dresses are comfy!

  17. Bella Mama Says:

Suri is such a beautiful child.. wow

  18. skips Says:

the picture with her arms crossed is
    precious!!

  19. Molly Says:

Suri has never been seen in comfortable sweat pants or comfy play clothes. While the dresses are comfy, i dont think they are appropriate for every day life, playgrounds, sand boxes etc, even if the parents can afford it. She is like a bird in a gold cage even if she’d insist on designer dresses, what a child of such a young age (and younger) knows.

  20. ellie taylor Says:

Wondering if the little dog that she was waving at was friendly.. Just seeing how
cute she is now.. and that she doesn’t have
her blanket or a bottle in her hand

  21. Liz Says:

Thank you sarita. I was about to say that too.

  22. Andrea Says:

I’m sure they can afford the dry cleaning bill ;) People worry too much!

  23. facingdawn Says:

I have a cousin who, when she was little, would not put on a pair of pants. If you got jeans near her she would scream. She lightened up by about 5ish but I know her mom, my aunt, found it easier to let her wear what she wanted and just didn’t by any white dresses as they showed the dirt more! :)

  24. rulani Says:

My daughter is 2years and 2mths almost and she will not wear anything but fancy dresses and shorts. Jeans , pants, skirts are no-no..so she goes to the park in her frillies and i get weird looks but as long as she has fun and is happy and they can be washed who cares!

  25. Lola Says:

Wow – she looks JUST like Chris Klein. Eerie.

  26. Lola Says:

Wow – I think she bears a strong resemblence to Chris Klein.

  27. Elizabeth Says:

I’m glad to hear that Katie isn’t trying to start any new trends with that outfit! Watch, she will anyway. In a few months those ugly rolled jeans will be everywhere!

  28. Lucy Says:

All i wore at that age was dresses. But why do they only have her in the worst dresses

  29. JM Says:

OMG Suri and the arms crossed PRICELESS!!!! But what is up with Katie’s pants?? anyways, I love these pics. Some of my favs of Suri! She’s so cute with little baby attitude!! haha

  30. sigh Says:

I wish they’d dress that little girl in comfortable play clothes instead of always like a little porcelain doll. Especially at the playground. Katie wouldn’t go for a run wearing ballet flats and a cocktail dress, so why does she insist her daughter do it?

Also, if it weren’t for Katie’s shoes, I would have thought she was Tom!!

  31. jillyen Says:

it’s nice to finally see Suri walking instead of ALWAYS being carried

  32. lee Says:

why is everyone saying she needs to be in play clothes? i know when i was young i wasn’t rough and tumble; i didn’t like being outside. so even though my mom couldn’t afford fancy clothes, my crappy/play clothes never got dirty. not EVERY child needs some clothes specifically to get dirty in.

  33. Elisabeth Says:

i don’t get the “play clothes” arguement. I dress my daughter like that all of the time b/c I LIKE to see her dressed nice. Her grandmother and I love to shop for desginer clothes and dresses b/c we enjoy it. I get tired of people commenting to me that my child isn’t a doll, just like I am sure that Katie gets tired of that as well. Personally, I would never dress my child in sweat pants, like the above poster suggested. And my daughter plays just fine…

  34. Teri Says:

She is too cute, and hopefully since I see no bottle she is off the bottle. Hopefully she has not ruined her teeth and she can stay this cute.

  35. Jackie Says:

Suri alway seems to be wearing those same gold shoes. They are very cute but surely they are getting too small by now? Let’s hope they bought several pairs in different sizes for her to grow into.

  36. Beverley Says:

Elisabeth, I don’t think you intended to sound like a snob, but your words are. It’s fine to dress your daughter nice, but who really cares whether she is in designer clothes? You can buy nice dresses inexpensively. Designer clothes for toddlers are wastes of money since they will outgrow them so quickly. And I’m sure your daughter would be just as comfy and adorable in a dress that cost $20 and would she really know the difference? As for not wearing sweatpants, that is up to you but it a lot more comfy for your child to not worry about getting their pretty clothes and shoes dirty or ripped. Your comment just sounds like bragging, and I hope that’s not what you intended.

  37. Megan B Says:

Glad to see Suri having such a great time with her mom. Suri crossing her arms is a priceless photo!! Suri must really like those shoes, she’s been wearing them in the last two or three sets of photos I’ve seen of her.

I don’t get why people are making such a big deal about Suri’s dresses. I certainly wouldn’t always put my kid in dresses all the time, but as long as Suri’s happy it shouldn’t matter.

Personally, I hate dresses and always have. I haven’t worn any formal dress or skirt since I was at this formal Air Force cermonay 4 years ago. Everyone has their own style whether it be dresses or jeans.

  38. Kim B Says:

I have two girls one always wants to wear jeans and never wanted to wear a dress and the other one wants to wear a dress all the time I don’t think she has left the house this summer with out a dress or sundress on. But that is a fight thats just not worth fighting. I pick my battles. I actually like her in dresses were I can’t see my older daughter ever wearing a dress. I think suri looks really cute her mom works a lot takes her with her its probably a fight just not worth fighting about.

  39. AriaMP Says:

the one with her arms crossed, lol so cute

  40. Trisha Says:

katie looks like she is wearing
    men’s Jeans

  41. Jo Says:
  42. Chicki Says:

Beverley, in defense of Elisabeth, why do you care how she dresses her children? I have no probelm with any parent who makes the decision to spend a lot (or a little) of money on their children’s clothing. The fact remains that people who make more will spend more and people who make less will spend accordingly – why criticize either way? The parents who spend more on their children tend to do so because THEY notice the difference anyway – not the kids :)

(Kinda like Jon & Kate only buying organically grown food for their 8 kids – sure the kids can survive on regular food, but THEY feel that spending more is a benefit for them and they are within their rights to do so as a parent).

  43. crg Says:

I highly doubt those jeans are part of her costume. I was in that play once, and those jeans totally not the character, time or setting, unless they’ve completely changed it! Maybe she’s been spending too much time in Europe. I was in Oslo recently and many young people had their jeans like this. I even saw several with rubber bands wrapped around the outside of the bottom cuff…??

Also, I agree that kids can play in any type of clothes, but have you ever seen a young girl on a playground in a dress? It’s hard for them to for to crawl or climb- their knees get stuck on the dress and I’ve seen many unsafe situations because of it. They can play, but can they really play freely, how they want to? Just another opinion.

  44. Angie Says:

Just a quick question…so Katie…errr KATE’s :-) hair keeps getting shorter, she is now wearing men’s jeans and is in the play ALL MY SONS…does she play a SON?!?!?!

  45. LP Says:

Suri is the spitting image of her mother. She’s such a cutie! I don’t think Tom had anything to do with the making of Suri! hahah. Very cute pics.

  46. sleekraven Says:

TracyG, I don’t know what you read or where you read it but what she is wearing has nothing to do with the play. This is an Arthur Miller’s play set in the 1940s and no, they were not wearing pegged jeans at the time. Another thing, she is in rehearsals, no costume wearing until the dress rehearsals. She is also going to be wearing a wig because she is playing a woman not a boygirl.

It also has nothing to do with the new reason given by her stylist that she is wearing Cruise’s jeans. Cruise is 2 inches shorter if not more, if those were his jeans, she wouldn’t need to roll them up, they will probably just come a little close to her ankle if not a bit higher. Now, if Cruise was wearing her jeans then he can peg them.

Pegging jeans is OK for a teenager trying desperately to set a trend in class or school playground, not a soon to be 30 year old especially one who looks much older than that.

  47. SH Says:

    Chicki,
Spending money on designer clothes vs. spending money on organic food for your kids is NOT the same. The first doesn’t benefit the child AT ALL and makes NO difference. The second obviously DOES benefit the child. Horrible analogy. Kate is not spending more on organic food because it LOOKS better. She’s spending more on organic food because it’s healthier for her children!

  48. Jess Says:

I think talk about “play clothes” is silly. You can play in any clothes. She looks adorable & seems to have lots of fun, even in her beautiful outfits.

  49. Louise Says:

    Re: Katie’s jeans…

“Katie Holmes hasn’t just been wearing men’s jeans on recent NYC outings – she’s wearing husband Tom Cruise’s jeans!

The couple’s stylist Jeanne Yang confirms to Usmagazine.com that they are Cruise’s Prps Jeans.”

  50. Jenifer Says:

With all her money, can’t Katie get some jeans that fit her fabulous body? Suri is adorable. My daughter would covet all her dresses.

  51. carolina Says:

Suri looks adorable! Although her fancy dresses and shoes aren’t really the kind of clothes you can play wildly in, I’m sure she doesn’t mind. At that age (and until I was like 10 lol) I always wanted to wear those kinds of princess dresses and I’m sure Suri loves them too!

  52. Chicki Says:

SH – My point was moreso to say that the luxury of spending more on children’s clothes, toys, food or travel accommodations is primarily for the parent’s benefit – satisying their own ideals, status or piece of mind; it rarely makes that big a difference to the children. It certainly ISN’T “necessary” to spend extra money buying organic food because children can grow up just as healthy eating regular old fruits and vegetables and whole grains as they have been for the past thousand years or so. My point is that they choose to do it because they feel that it will benefit their kids, but in fact those kids would probably be just as healthy otherwise. Just my opinion – keep your “horrible analogy” criticism to your self next time.

  53. Gabrielle Says:

That last picture is precious. Beautiful mother daughter moment.

  54. SH Says:

    Chicki,
There’s no antibiotics, hormones and pesticides in clothes last I checked.

  55. Asiram Says:

I don’t know what that stylist is trying to pull, but the idea that those are Tom’s pants is making me laugh out loud. Katie is several inches taller than Tom, there is NO WAY she’d be able to roll those pants up that much if they were his! ;-)

  56. KarenA Says:

    Totally adorable!

  57. cindy Says:

Suri cute- Katie- not so much in 1988 pegged jeans. Oh my, I know she was probably 6 or so in 1988, but that does not mean a revival of pegged jeans looks good now, cause hey, it looks as bad as it did when I was in high school. First time I saw it, I thought Katie was in a Broadway costume. Oh my, oh my.

  58. vega Says:

Oh my gosh, thanks for the pics. i followed a link someone left at justjared to this site. they only posted bad pictures of suri there. I don’t why, but justjared and other sites are implying suri is an unhappy kid who doesn’t smile.

  59. blackrose Says:

aww shes an adorable kid!! she is really beautiful!!..i was looking at the same pics on jj and i was shocked when i read some of the comments..they think that this child is autistic!i really dono they see that!.. poor kid!

  60. Michelle Says:

They are not actually Tom’s jeans. They are the “Boyfriend” style of the BRAND of jeans Tom wears. The style was created for women who like to wear their boyfriends jeans. Posh has been photographed wearing the same style. But she is not tight rolling hers. I like the jeans in a wide leg format on Posh better. I hope the pegged look never comes back. Maybe it will be a quickly passing fashion like the high waisted jeans were.

  61. t. Says:

those must be suri’s favorite shoes she always seems to wear them

  62. Freya Says:

    Suri is beautiful :)

I don’t see why some people are getting so worked up about the dresses. I’m guessing it’s pretty hot in America right now, what with it being summer, and that dress looks pretty lose and comfy to me rather than formal.

  63. Lorus Says:

If I had the money like celebs then I wouldn’t care if my young child wore nice dresses to go play in. It wouldn’t matter if they ruined a $50 dress when I made 20 million a year. If they want to wear the dress out then they should be allowed to.

Love the picture of Suri with her arms folded. Too cute!

  64. Stephany Says:

Suri is sooo adorable. The picture of her with her arms crossed is priceless! Obviously, I don’t know this family but I think it’s more of a “Suri wants to wear dress” over “Katie wants her daughter to look picture perfect.”

These pictures make me laugh because Suri is dressed to the nines (and I have to agree, playing in a dress is MUCH harder than playing in shorts) and Katie looks, to put it bluntly, shabby. Katie might want to seek some fashion advice from her daughter! ;)

  65. H Says:

Um Katie? Tom called..he wants his jeans back lol hehe :)

  66. laura Says:

worst.outfit.ever (Katie, not Suri – she’s adorable and never looks anything but)

Seriously. Katie usually looks chic (if a bit old but this…she looks manly!! And it looks like she stole that sweater from Mr. Rodger’s closet. And those jeans have to be Tom’s (or wait…they’d be too short for her!) ;-)
But Suri is too cute. I love that dress!

  67. Rosy J Says:

I too wish Suri could be free to be a child and not a PR. I know she doesn’t chose to dress like a doll for going to the park. Parents should not wait until they are being photographed to take their kid to the park just like they are promoting her. She looks like an outcast. She is too cute to made into an object for PR purposes. There is a time and place for everything. Where are Katie’s dress up clothes?

  68. Sue Says:

Suri is cute, but why dresses all the time? Is it part of the religion? Mom looks comfy all the time why not the child?

  69. Barbara Says:

Most familys can’t afford to dress the kids in designer clothes like Katie can with Suri. So if Suri’s clothes (dresses or pants) get dirty from playing in them it proably isn’t a big deal at all. The important thing is that Suri gets to play like a normal child.

Love Greatly, Laugh Loud, Live Well & Be Compassionate. : )

  70. jennifer Says:

okay, fine, the dress vs. playclothes debate i’ll leave alone, but the bottle? Suri and my daughter are the same age, and we are pretty much done with the bottle. only when she’s sick or super super overtired, we might give her a little milk in the bottle for comfort. i wanna katie some sippy cups.

  71. stevie Says:

She is beyond cute!!!! Personally I doubt they make her dress in dresses all the time since she looks so happy as a mom I can pretty much figure she wouldn’t look so happy all the time if she didn’t want to be wearing them, my son has been arguing with me about what he wears since he was two, I can just imagine how a girl would be.I’m sure Tom and Katie are just picking their battles like every other parent. * Didn’t we already figure out that Katie is wearing clothes from the movie she’s doing? why are we still talking about it like she picked it out herself?

  72. stephanie Says:

And they say people don’t care about the Cruises anymore. Look at all the brouhaha caused by Katie’s jeans and Suri’s clothes :D

    Both girls are beautiful!

  73. MB Says:

i have never seen Shiloh wearing pants either..suri is adorable!

  74. Kay Says:

I so love these pictures of Little Suri. That child is going to be a handful. That picture crossing her hands says a lot about her personality. You gotta love her.

  75. bruna Says:

Suri is SO pretty!!! That girl is going to break some hearts! ;)

  76. San Says:

    WAKE UP AMERICANS!!!

The picture of Suri with her arms crossed, means she wears the pants..look at her angry face..I do have a huge feeling this kid gets everything she wants, i hope Katie wont be having problems with her when she gets older…I do hope Katie will open her eyes someday not too late..about Tom and that little spoiled brat..bet she stamps her feet when she wont get what she want!

  77. Sarah Says:

beverly, i’m going to have to agree with chicki on this one. how elisabeth dresses her daughter is not your concern. you’ve never even met her daughter so how do you know what she would be more comfortable in? she said her daughter plays just fine. and there is no shame in wanting your child to be dressed nicely. and if you can afford designer dresses, you should be able to buy them without people accusing you of stifling your kid.

  78. lianne Says:

    umm, are her jeans pegged?

  79. brannon Says:

Don’t worry Elisabeth. I must be a snob too. I also buy designer clothing for my son AND let him play. How that is a problem for anyone else, I’m not really sure? In any case, his clothes wash the same way as any of the other kids he plays with and that’s just fine with me.

  80. brooke Says:

Suri is a gorgeous child, and I love how they dress her. She is one of my favorite celebrity babies, valentina and suri. Katie I always thought is so cute, but lately she looks older and a bit too skinny IMO

  81. seosinger Says:

Aww! Suri is so cute. I have a 5 year old and 2.5 year old and they love to wear dresses all the time. I do insist that some of them be “good” dresses and others “play” dresses. I hit up the garage sales to find pretty “play” dresses. I don’t mind if a $2.00 dress gets ruined.

  82. mamabear Says:

Suri appears to be quite a little character – her parents always seem to be smiling at her antics!

This whole clothes drama is really quite silly! What does it matter what a child wears to the park?

Perhaps Suri likes to wear dresses all the time – my daughter did – and I could have cared less if she got dirty in them.

A dress is a dress – and it doesn’t appear to hinder Suri’s play in the park whatsoever :)

If Suri had on a $15 sundress from Target – would these posters still be so upset? So what if Suri wears a $170 dress from Bonpoint to the park?

Sounds like sour grapes to me…

  83. LisaB Says:

OK, Chicki and Elisabeth get my support here.
    SH…
She’s spending more on organic food because it’s healthier for her children!

ACTUALLY organic food is NOT healthier. Do your homework and you will find…people assume it is and it is not. As far as Suri’s clothing, maybe those against it are just jealous. It certainly sounds that way.
Beverly..I think you completely took the snob comment and ran with that. She was TOTALLY not sounding snobish..I think it’s great to dress little girls up. And I have a friend who let her daughter wear whatever she wanted and not sweat it and save her energy for the teenage years. My now 11 year old son used to wear a shirt and tie everywear..in the middle of the summer in Texas. WHO THE HELL CARES? I love her clothes and she is a pretty little girl. I much prefer little girls in nice dresses and fancy shoes and hair combed. Get over it everyone..move on.

  84. momof3 Says:

just once I would like to see her in jeans and a teeshirt (Suri that is)

  85. paula Says:

My 2-yr old daughter plays just the same in a pretty dress as in shorts and a tee-shirt. She has NO worries about getting it dirty (and neither do I). I just try to make sure she can move around freely in it – some dresses make it hard to climb up on things because the fabric gets in the way.

  86. Judy Says:

I think it’s silly to put a child in a designer dress to take her to the playground, but Suri is Katie’s child and she can dress her any way she wants to.

What does bother me is that Katie said on David Letterman’s show that she puts Suri to bed at 11:30 p.m. Does that mean Suri sleeps all morning? She’s two years old. A child her age needs at least 10 to 11 hours sleep a night. Katie needs to get that child on a more sensible schedule.

  87. Sarah Says:

in some of the other pictures that were taken from this day, suri is seen having a red popsicle, so i dont think katie is too concerned with messes.

and very good point, mamabear. no one would be complaining if suri was playing in the park wearing a cheap sundress. posters seem to be more upset with the price of the dress. but the dress is not expensive for the cruises so if it gets ruined it’s just not a big deal for them. suri doesn’t look uncomfortable so this dress scandal is just ridiculous.

  88. BC Says:

Why does it matter if Suri is wearing a fancy dress to the park??? My 3 year old daughter only wants to wear dresses that have a big “spin”. It is not hurting anyone & it saves me from an unimportant battle with my daughter. I try to pick my battles (as I am sure most moms do) & it appears Katie does the same. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

  89. SH Says:

    LisaB
If you consider “homework” to have read the first 2 articles on organic food when you googled it…then that’s YOUR opinion.

My FACT (not just an assumption) that organic food IS healthier is due to my own health, my husbands health, and my childrens health. All of us have seen positive changes in our health since we’ve bought more organic products. We don’t eat ALL organic, but a lot of it we do.

Not to mention the fact that organic food or local produce, eggs and meat almost always tastes better and it’s better for the environment and for the earth. Also, livestock raised “organically” are healthier and treated more humane. Go get some local eggs and you’ll see the difference. The chicken egg shells from local chickens are actually HARD to crack! It’s because they’re fed a healthier diet and taken care of like they should be.

Another thing I’ve observed in “real life” – not from reading on the internet…There were never 8 year old girls in my 2nd grade class with boobs and getting their periods… There’s LOTS of that going on now. My opinion is that it’s from all the hormones we’re pumping into the livestock that our meat, eggs and milk comes from.

Again, things I’ve lived through, not just read about…

  90. Silvermouse Says:

I like Suri’s dress and I have no idea why this is a fuss. Maybe Suri likes those dresses? Anyway they’re cute and it should be the kid’s decision lol.

  91. carol Says:

please take that baby bottle away from that child!!! She is toooo old to be carrying around a baby bottle ~ Also, put some “play” clothes on her to play in ~ Those dresses are not normal for regular child play ~ sand boxes, swing sets etc….

  92. Beta Says:

Does anybody know where this dress is from?
