Motherhood Changed Geraldine Somerville’s Role Selection

Being a mother to three children, actress Geraldine Somerville is careful of the roles she chooses because "it’s difficult working with three young children." With that being the case, Geraldine makes sure that she "only choose[s] things that I really want to do," which just happens to include the Harry Potter series. She has portrayed Harry Potter’s deceased mother, Lily, in all five of the movies that have been released and plans to continue with the character, joking, "I’ll just come in and do my little, ‘I am Lily Potter,’ and go quietly."

Even though she is a fan of the series, her oldest son Caspar William, 6, and two younger children are banned from seeing the Harry Potter films because "it’s still a bit scary."

Geraldine, 41, married husband William Osbourne-Young in 1995.
