"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott Take Liam for a Dip

Tags: Babies, Dads

In still photos from their June housewarming party (which aired two weeks ago on their reality show, Home Sweet Hollywood), Tori Spelling, 35, and Dean McDermott, 41, take a dip in the pool with 17-month-old son Liam Aaron. Soon after, Dean’s 9-year-old son Jack joined them in the water, while baby Stella stayed dry with Patsy the baby nurse.

  1. kay-d 's mommy Says:

Awww they look like such an awesome family, and their kids are adorable.

  2. Amanda Morris Says:

Didn’t she have stitches still from her C-section?

Shouldn’t she not be in the water?

  3. michelle Says:

I really like that show and how they are together. I am bummed she wont be on 90210. I hope they have another season of TORI AND DEAN!

  4. catie Says:

Most C/S women have staples. My incision was healed in 2 weeks. I’m sure she was fine to be in the water.

  5. jory Says:

I just adore this family! Dean puts up with so much from Tori and you can tell he just loves her so much! I really enjoyed the show this season and I really hope that they have another one. I for sure would tune in everyweek!!!!!

  6. rhonda Says:

why is Jack’s face blurred out in the pictures on tv and while he was on the previous epi?

  7. Erica Says:

Maybe that’s part of the agreement with Mary Jo in order to have him on the show.

    Liam is SO cute.

  8. Emaline Says:

I want my own Patsy, lol! Tori seems so nice, I just love this little family <3

  9. emmajlh Says:

Have they moved out of that ‘Inn’ that they had bought? I don’t think we get Home Sweet Hollywood in the UK but we did get Tori and Dean Inn Love.

  10. JC Says:

They sold the Inn they bought and moved back to Hollywood and bought a house there.

  11. brooke Says:

Mary jo doesn’t want jack shown on the show much and when he is, for the most part his face has to be blurred out. Dean and tori are a cute couple and seem like great parents, and tori seems like a loving stepmom too. Liam is so cute, totally favors the spelling family IMO

  12. lele Says:

i did not have staples… i had stitches that were in the inside that dissolved. hardly a scar and i could get the area wet right away.

  13. rhonda Says:

Thanks Erica. I was trying to figure that one out. I have seen pictures of him in the magazines before (not too lon ago) so I guess I am just confused as to why blur his face out now. I wonder if she (his mom) is being petty about it?

  14. Mom2boys Says:

I don’t think it is fair to speculate that Jack’s mother is being “petty”. She does not want her child on TV, possibly for his own safety, security, and well-being. It’s no one’s business why he is not on there. And if she is being “petty” can anyone blame her?

I think Liam is a little doll, and looks so much like Tori’s brother.

  15. Mom2boys Says:

Oh, and she should not be in the water, not necessarily because of the C-Section incision, but because of healing of the Uterus that needs to occur after all births.
One of my professors in nursing school said to “consider it an open wound that needs to heal”
Most docs will advise all women who have delivered- Csection or vaginal- to not take baths for 6 weeks after birth.

  16. rhonda Says:

After reading up on Mary Jo and reading where she was disgusted at Tori’s and Dean’s Inn of Love I think she was being petty. I know on the show Dean said he hadn’t seen Jack in a year, maybe MJ wasn’t letting him see his son. What we definitely can say is that Dean loves Jack and so does Tori and they are not letting anything nor anyone keep them down. No one is perfect in life and if we can accept Brad and Angelina we can accept Tori and Dean.

  17. Bancie1031 Says:

I have never seen a picture of Jack …. for those who have seen him does he look like Dean? I thought that was so sweet how Tori surprised Dean with Jack …. they seem like such a loving family and I just love little Monkey.

emmajlh They had never actually bought the INN …. They were kindof like “renting” it to make sure that The Bed and Breakfast was the kind of business they wanted, plus they didn’t have the money to out right buy it. The lease was up and they didn’t have the money to buy it and the owner was wanting to sell it instead of renting it again …. so Home Sweet Hollywood.

  18. SH Says:

i’ve had 4 kids and no one has ever told me not to take a bath for 6 weeks…yeah, your uterus has to heal but taking a bath would not affect that.

  19. Natt Says:

Um, I’ve had 2 sections and had baths within a week of both. In fact my old house only had a bath – and the midwife advocated a soak!

Chlorinated pools may be different, but even so I’m sure its fine.

Theres no need nowadays with a section to avoid baths, especially with disolvable stitches (which I had with both mine in Aug 06 and Mar 08)

Her kids are really sweet – and she looks a lot better than I do for kids so close in age ;-)

  20. ERICKA Says:

Love them as a family and I think it’s great that Tori flew Jack out as a suprise.

I don’t get why his ex is not letting his face be shown on the program. It’s not really to do with safety for Jack if she let his face be shown before. I think it’s her way of having some “power” but that’s just my opinion. I think Dean should file for more visitation because he hardly sees his son and you can tell he REALLY adores and loves him greatly.

  21. Julie Says:

well, isn’t baby stella around 9 weeks old anyway? That would make the bath argument a moot point!

  22. Stephany Says:

SH and Natt, thanks for clearing that up. When I read Mom2boys comment, I was all ready to research it! I mean, that seems VERY unhygenic (I don’t think that’s a word but you know what I mean) to not take a bath for SIX WEEKS! That seems to be taking it a little too far, ya know?

Anyway, Tori and Dean are so adorable. I’ve seen a few episodes and they just adore one another and their babies!

  23. Sheena Says:

Maybe they used to say not to take baths for six weeks but when I gave birth to my daughter three years ago they had a special hot tub right there in the hospital for mothers to go into after they gave birth. They advise you to soak with epsom salts to speed up the healing process.

  24. kelly Says:

I don’t mean to stir the pot because honestly, I don’t have an opinion of these two one way or the other. But is it possible these two are on the verge of overexposure? They put themselves out there so much. I’d hate to see them go down the road of Nick & Jessica. Any thoughts?

  25. fay Says:

to the one who says u should stay out of water for weeks after birth, does that hold true for women who give birth IN water as well… or only those of us who choose to stay on dry land for delivery…

and for the ppl wondering abt jack, if i’m not mistaken there are pictures of him on THIS very website… so i’m not sure WHY all of a sudden, his face being on t.v. wld be such a big deal… but whatever… she prolly just mad… lol

  26. Erica Says:

Mary Jo can’t control paparazzi pictures but she can sign off or not on a TV contract. Honestly, I would want my child’s face blurred out too. It’s just not something I’d be comfortable with.

  27. tink1217 Says:

I wasn’t told not to take a bath for 6 weeks! I have NEVER heard that before. I saw that episode and they are just the sweetest family. So genuine and so adorable. Liam steals the show every week!

  28. Mom2boys Says:

Look, my Ob practices at Brigham and Women’s. It is in the handout they provide to all their postpartum patients to avoid deep baths for 3-4 weeks. This info was given to me in 2006 and 2007.
Perhaps it is not always recommended by all doctors.
The theory is that dirty water may enter the uterus and cause an intrauterine infection. If that is a realistic scenario, I am not sure. I am open to the idea that the possibility exists.
And for the person who said it is “unhygienic”- there is such a thing as showers.
But like anything, one should consider all info and make best choice for themselves.

  29. Ash Says:

    For Bancie:

Yes, Jack does look fairly like Dean – he has his eyes and coloring. If you Google Image Jack McDermott you can see an image of Jack with Tori, Dean and Liam which was posted on this site previously too.

  30. kaitlyn Says:

Julie, it says the photos were taken in June.

  31. Rachel Says:

The family is gorgeous and what a lovely couple, even if they did come together in unfavorable circumstances…it does appear that they love each other and their children.

  32. Sheena Says:

Mom2boys, so is it 3-4 weeks or 6? Its weird that none of us have ever heard that before. Even though baths were recommended to me I decided to just take showers. The thought of soaking in my own blood wasn’t very appealing lol I think some people were confused and thought you meant not to take showers as well.

  33. Sarah Says:

i a little surprised at the comments about mary jo that are insinuating that she is being manipulative and petty. none of us have ever even met this woman. if she doesn’t want her little boy on national television, she has every right to take action against it. she is his mother and she knows what’s best for him. jack is only seven and tv is probably not the best place for him. and as for dean’s involvement with his son, maybe it’s because dean and tori are ALWAYS filming for their show and live in los angeles. jack lives in canada with his mom and little sister as that has been their home. if dean wants to see his son more, than he should take a little time away from the spotlight, fly up to canada and assert his rights.

  34. bee Says:

I love the dress Tori is wearing does anyone know where she got it?

  35. alabama Says:

When I had my first baby in 2004, I was told to use a Sitz (sp?) bath with epsom salts to speed up healing. Yet after having my second baby in Jan 2008, I was told not to take a bath until I got the all clear from my dr at the 6 week visit because bathtubs are not 100% clean. I just figured that opinions had changed after 4 years.

  36. lele Says:

just remembered one of the resident docs told me not to soak in a bath for long because of the risk of infection… and i remember my sister in law telling me her doc said no water for awhile (she did not have section) so maybe it is a common suggestion. my doctor did not tell me to avoid the water and i did not avoid.

  37. mmh Says:

I really like Tori and Dean together but that doesn’t excuse the fact that Dean and Jack’s mother’s marriage was broken up when they got together. So if she’s being “petty” I don’t think anyone can blame her…

  38. MB Says:

I’ve read the same thing about not taking deep baths after your water breaks and for a short time after birth (but have not read a definitive time). I don’t take baths anyway so I haven’t thought much about it. It’s not like Tori was naked in the pool though (well, assuming), so that may have decreased her chances of infection. Plus, since everyone’s birth is different, everyone’s post-natal instructions might be different.

Very cute family though! And I totally understand Mary Jo’s apparent position. She can’t ask paps to blur out Jack’s face in magazines. He’s a kid and IMO levels of media exposure is something the parents should decide for awhile and Mary Jo is the one with primary custody, right? Not any different from Halle not wanting pictures of her child, or Nicole/Keith.

  39. Sheena Says:

mmh, I agree. If my husband went off and got together with a movie star and then had a reality show with her and their new kids I dont think I’d be real excited to have my child on there. Jack came to the house warming didnt he? Isnt that good enough? Why does the whole world have to see his face? If his mom was being petty she would have at least refused to let him go. Or made sure he wasn’t allowed to be filmed at all. Which is still not being petty in my opinion.

  40. anon Says:

Who cares whether you can’t take a bath for 3,4 or 6 weeks postpartum? Stella was born 6/9 and so she is already 10.5 weeks. This entire line of conversation as it relates to Tori Spelling is pointless.

  41. Erica Says:

anon if you read the post, the pics were taken in june. so tori was no more than 4 weeks PP. So it’s entirely relevant.

In regards to my two births, I wasn’t told anything one way or another, but I had natural waterbirths.

  42. Sheena Says:

anon, this picture is from june (read the caption before you write something huh?)so yes, it was very soon after Stella was born. I think lots of people are talking about this because a lot of us are moms and most of us haven’t heard about this rule and we are curious.

  43. kelly Says:

Hate to say this, but these two are becoming over-exposed. Rather, they are over-exposing themselves. I like them fine, but American culture can be fickle. I hope they don’t regret putting their family out there so much. I’m sure some of you will disagree–just my opinion.

  44. Mom2boys Says:

    Sheena,

I was told 6 weeks when I was in Nursing school (graduated 1998). I was told 3-4 weeks by my OB (and I had 2 c-sections). Apparently, some people wait 0 weeks.

I don’t have an answer on the water birth question, but do find the dry land comment funny.

I guess I am not a big bath person anyways. And when my kids were born, I didn’t have anyone around as far as family to help out and my husband works tons, so sitting and soaking in a bath wasn’t ever going to happen.

I am surprised that more people haven’t heard this. My friend is an OB nurse in New Hampshire, and she recommends this to her patients. Very curious.

  45. Sheena Says:

mom2boys, thanks for the info. I actually felt sort of guilty for not ever taking baths since everyone raved about its healing powers but I guess it was alright after all! You know, it just goes to show how different doctors can be. I switched ob/gyns when we moved and just about everything the first doctor said was the opposite of what the second doctor is saying now (as far as appropriate weight gain, safe drugs during pregnancy etc) and I have found it incredibly frustrating. Just makes it pretty clear that while we have come a long way in medical knowledge, we still dont have the answers to everything. When doctors disagree and we dont know who is right, I guess we just have to go with common sense and what feels right maternally. Why risk something if there is a chance it could harm you or the child is the motto I go by.

  46. SH Says:

Yes, that is curious mom2boys…all I know is that it wasn’t recommended to me w/ my 4 kids and my mom only had a bathtub in her house w/ her 4 kids and my gramma only had a bathtub in her house w/ her 9 kids…they both turned out fine…seems that it’s been happening for eons so it seems that baths probably aren’t as dangerous as they may seem? but i guess there has to be a reason this recommendation has been given to some and not others. baths aren’t 100% clean but neither is anything else. i do know too that in our hospital (near chicago) they have tubs in the rooms for women to soak in after giving birth.

  47. Sheena Says:

SH, I was wanting to go soak in the tub in the labor and delivery room while I was in labor since I heard it made contractions less painful. I took one look at the tub and was like, Oh no way. The thing had a dirt ring all the way around it! Talk about gross! As a teen I was a housekeeper so I know that a lot of cleaners are in a hurry and dont take the time to clean things as properly as they should. Bad enough in a hotel, worse in a hospital. So if anyone wants to take a bath, they should probably only do it in their own home where they know their tub is clean. But yeah, its never 100% free of bacteria.

  48. Justine Says:

Obviously there are many different recommendations for whether baths are a good thing. I had a baby in Nov 07 in Australia and had stitches due to a tear. In the hospital they have a room with a ‘toilet’ that fills with warm water. Every nurse was telling me to go and soak in the salt water for 10-15 minutes as often as I could to help with healing. I did it a few times as my premmie baby wasn’t in my room with me. Who knows if it helped or not…

  49. Di Says:

I can’t comment on the bath issue but someone suggested that Dean’s ex is somehow keeping Dean from seeing their son and I don’t think that is case. First both Dean and Mary Jo are from Canada. They both came to the US to help Dean with his career. Once in LA, he left one day to do a tv movie with Tori and the rest is history.

After the break up, Mary Jo naturally moved back to Canada because that is home. If Dean wants to spend more time with his son he can move back to Canada. When one parent lives in one country and the other parent lives somewhere, every other week visitation is not really feasible. I’m sure Dean sees Jack for part of the Summer and Winter and Spring Breaks. I’m guessing that Dean is enjoying being married to the daughter of Hollywood royalty and that may have more to do with his lack of visitation with Jack.

Lastly, for those who have insinuated that Mary Jo is petty. You should go the net and read all of the not so nice comments Tori has made against Mary Jo after she and Dean first got together. Finally, if my husband of 12 years dumped me for someone else, I think I have the right to be just a little bit petty, okay.

  50. Bancie1031 Says:

To Ash – Thanks I didn’t even think to google it LOL ….. Jack is a cutie and looks very much like Dean. It’s sad that Dean doesn’t get to see Jack more …….

Sarah – Jack is 9 probably almost 10 not 7. But none the less we don’t know what the court papers say or what the verbal agreement was/is along the lines of custody of Jack. Maybe he can’t just hop a plane taking time off of filming his life and go up to Canada to see him …. maybe he’s not allowed at his ex-wives house or maybe there is only certain times of the year that he’s actually allowed to see Jack …. or who knows ….. none the less is Jack not supposed to have a relationship with his half brother Liam and half sister Stella? Also they are not always filming and in all honesty we don’t know how much Dean does in fact see Jack. And if you want to be perfectly honest about it, it’s really none of any of our business. Their custody agreement is their custody agreement.

  51. Sarah Says:

Bancie, I actually completely agree with you. I was just making a point to those who jumped to the conclusion that Mary Jo was being petty and withholding Jack from his dad and other siblings. We really don’t know why Jack isn’t filmed or how often Dean sees him, so I found it very presumptuous of a few posters to assume that Mary Jo was to blame. So, I was really just trying to come to that poor woman’s defense. Sorry if it was interpreted that I was accusing Dean of something (how I feel about the Lola situation is another matter all together).

p.s thanks for correcting me on Jack’s age

  52. Danica Says:

When Jack is 12 he can choose which parent he wants to live with. I wonder if he will want to live with his dad and Tori for a while. I wonder how that would affect his schooling. He’s probably better off staying where he is but I was thinking it would be a chance for him to bond more with his dad. I’ve seen photos of Jack, but that’s different as people move on but with a weekly t.v. show people really get to know your face.

  53. mandy Says:

    i can’t see the comments.

  54. Melanie Says:

    Mom2boys-

That’s not true at all. Well, it may be in the particular case of your OB but as far as anyone I know, baths are fine right after a birth. In fact, my sister and a couple friends were told to soak in the tub a couple of times a day to help heal…and it worked! They healed up a lot faster than some of my other friends. Like I said, maybe your OB gave different instructions but I’ve never heard of a doctor telling a woman to avoid the bath for 6 weeks after birth.

  55. Mom of boys Says:

First thing here…I am not the Mom2boys person.

I have had 2 c-sections as well as other abdominal surgeries. The first one I had staples and the second one I had the dissolvable inner stitches,My doctor said it is ok to be in the pool little bits just don’t be in it longer than a half hour.

Every Doctor gives different advice, none of us are dead, wether we swam in a pool or soaked in a hot tub after we gave birth to ur precious angels.

  56. Mom of boys Says:

Oh and on a side note, I believe that I heard somewhere that Jack was actually adopted by Dean and Mary Jo.

    I could be wrong.

  57. Marlee Says:

i just delivered my third child by c-section in june, right after tori had stella and i was told to wait 2 weeks for a bath, but showering was okay… i was also told to wait at least 6 weeks if not longer to go in public swimming pools… the precautions were there so i wouldn’t get infections in my incision area… with things like MRSA out there, i agreed it was best to be cautious…

  58. jasmine Says:

I agree with Sarah when it comes to the whole Mary Jo thing. It’s really not our place to assume so much about someone or a relationship (Dean/Mary Jo) we really don’t know that much about.

  59. ang Says:

as has already been mentioned, jack is 9-he will be 10 in october.he seems like a great kid, and there are multiple pics of him on this site.tori, dean & liam look like they’re having a blast.there are some gorgeous pics on oxygen site of tori & patsy taking stella to the spa in the resort.stella gets her first foot rub lol & tori also got a well-deserved massage.most surprising of all was that the whole weekender trip was dean’s idea.normally tori’s the one who has to talk HIM into it.anyhoo, love them all & the show to death-hoping for season 4!

  60. ang Says:

sorry just realised i was taking about a different episode. last week they went to a resort.forgot these pics were from the house.

  61. Tracie Says:

Baby Nurse? Why can’t celebrities just raise their own children without having nannies/nurses/Au Pairs etc? Its not that difficult!

  62. Bancie1031 Says:

Sarah – Sorry my whole verbal throw up wasn’t completely at you but about the whole Jack situation all together. Yes I will admit I myself have wondered how come we don’t see him on the show more but like someone else has said maybe his mom (I believe that I have read on here that her name is) Mary Jo doesn’t want his face all over the screen (for his best interest).
Danica – The age where a child gets to choose where she/he wants to live varies from state to state (for instances here in Georgia, it’s the age of 14. Where you live it most be 12). I don’t know what the age is in Canada, but that would be interesting to see who he would choose ….. of if he would choose to split his time half and half with both parents. :D
Mom2Boys – I have also heard that, Showers after birth (vaginal or c-section) for 4-6 weeks – but they prefer 6, to allow your body to heal correctly without the potential of an infection (my cousin got one from taking baths after her daughter was born by c-section – granted this was 12 years ago – and had to take medicine to cure it), your not the only one. That’s what my OBGYN told me after having my daughter plus my Mother-In-Law teaches College for Labor and Delivery Nurses (or should I say future nurses lol) and she said this is also the advice she has always heard. But if you remember correctly on the show she came home from the hospital with Stella then it was a couple of weeks later before they had their house warming party, so we don’t know how long it was after Stella’s birth that this scene was filmed.

  63. Bancie1031 Says:

ang – yes that was such a cute little scene where Stella’s getting her first pedicure LOL …..

  64. Xan Says:

    Stephany,
No worries about hygiene! The debate isn’t over bathing, but baths. You can still shower:)

  65. Cherise Says:

It was nice to hear that Jack was there. He should be an important part of Dean’s family as much as his other two kids are. You just don’t hear much about him.

  66. kris Says:

First, I think Liam is adorable! Second, I agree with Bancie and Sarah re: Jack. To be honest I think I’d have a hard time letting my 9 year old fly so far from home and to be filmed for a reality show. I’ve seen their show and have nothing against it. I actually think they are pretty funny and seem to be very focused on their family (including Jack). But let’s face it, this is divorce. Things don’t always work out the way everyone wants. Dean chose this path and these are the consequences of those actions. Doesn’t mean he can’t have a good relationship with his son (I get the impression they do) but it’s unlikely he’ll be spending a lot of time with him since they do not live near each other. Hopefully they focus on the quality of their time together and not the quantity.

Oh, and I had both a vaginal and a c-section but for the life of me I can not remember what I was told about baths. I take showers so that’s probably why.

  67. rhonda Says:

I did a search on Jack McDermott and he was featured in some pics posted here under Dec 2007 when liam was still a baby along with Dean.

  68. Ann Says:

Chiming in on the bath issue:

I had a vaginal birth with 2nd degree tears. The nurses recommended a soak in their whirlpool tub (no chemicals of course) the night after I had my baby because the gentle swirling of the water would help loosen the blood from the stitches and clean my wound gently.

  69. homefly Says:

When I had my cesarean, I was told not to take baths, go into a pool, or lift anything heavier than my baby, for at least SIX WEEKS after he was born (breech cesarean, no labor). Good advice as far as I was concerned, since I was still very very sore even at six weeks out.

  70. jen Says:

I had stitches not staples with my c-section, and they fell out within 2 weeks. Stella is like 7 or 8 weeks old here. She is past the so-called 6 week mark to heal. Heck I went bowling when my son was 3 weeks old.
