Tags: Births, Top News

Alessandra_ambrosio_55048872_maxcbbVictoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio and boyfriend Jamie Mazur have welcomed their first child, a daughter. Anja Louise Ambrosio Mazur arrived on Sunday, August 24th at 7:32 p.m. in Alessandra’s native Brazil. Weighing in at 6.3 lbs, Alessandra, 27, says that her "little princess is absolutely perfect."

"Shehasn’t cried once except for a second when they pulled her out. Wehave now felt a new kind of love and joy that we never knew existed."

The pregnancy news broke in January, with the model confirming the speculation in March. In June, Alessandra celebrated her baby shower and revealed that she and Jaime were expecting a daughter.

Alessandra plans to be back at work in November for the Victoria’s Secret fashion show.

  1. Lauren Says:

Beautiful name. Congrats to them and good luck to Alessandra in getting back into shape for the Victoria’s Secret show. She has a tough act to follow in Heidi Klum, but she can do it!

  2. Shay Says:

    An-ja? Is that pronounced On-ja?

Do you think her name comes from:
    (A)Alessandra and(n)(ja)Jamie?

  3. Annemarie Says:

Very pretty name! I was wondering why you guys hadn’t posted the news a few weeks ago but I got the email back that she hadn’t had the baby yet. Guess not! I wonder if she needed a csection since she said “they pulled the baby out.” I hope she has an easy recovery. And I agree Lauren, she has big shoes to fill after Heidi and her postpartum VS show!

  4. brooke Says:

Alessandra is gorgeous and she didn’t get very big, she will be skinny within a week I bet lol. Congrats to her

  5. Sarita Says:

That’s my mother’s name! Here we say Anja as Americans would say Anya I guess, but I don’t know how they would say it in Brazil.

  6. Gina Says:

Alessandra is ethnic Italian like me, though she was born in Brasil. My maternal grandmama is named Alessandra as well. Congrats to the happy couple.

  7. Isabella Says:

I am SO happy to finally hear she had her baby! There were many reports that she did, in early August. This is amazing. Alessandra is truly my favorite Victoria’s Secret model. Congrats to her and Jamie!

Shay, I don’t think the name comes from both of theirs. I believe it means Angel and she called her ‘Her Angel’ and that’s where she got it. I could be wrong, but I remember reading that somewhere.

  8. Jessica Says:

My cat’s name is Anja! wow i can’t believe it! Congratulations to her! Im so proud of Ale :)

  9. Kym Says:

Congrats to Ale, she is my fav.VS model,Im glad she will be in the show, and she will look great just look she does every year.Im sure her baby is beautiful.

  10. Kassey Says:

Alessandra is my favorite VS models and I am so happy for her! Anja is a very cute name and I love the spelling! It sounds good with Alessandra too, and she totally seemed like the type who would forsure have a girl. Anja is deff. a name that has grown on my and I really love it a lot :o )!

  11. Cait Says:

Annemarie – I’m not sure if she did or didn’t, but I was thinking that the way she said it might just be because of the language barrier since English isn’t her first language. She may or may not have meant it the way she said it.

Either way, congrats to them! I’m sure she is going to be a very beautiful little girl!

  12. Shirelle Says:

    Congrats!

  13. joanna Says:

CONGRATS TO HER, SHE’S MY FAVORITE ANGEL, AND THE MOST BEAUTIFUL!

  14. Allison Says:

Congratulations to Anja and Jaime! That baby will be gorgeous, Jaime has very handsome eyes too.

  15. Allison Says:

correction: Congratulations to Alessandra and Jamie! :-)

  16. Lily Says:

Congrats to the both of them! I’m sure she’s absolutely stunning! Love the name.

  17. ashley@la.com Says:

    Is Anja pronounced like Anya?

I like it! Little Anja is certain to be a stunner.

  18. Mel Says:

    Anja and Levi anyone? LOL

Love the name…I’m sure the baby is gorgous!

  19. Guillermo Says:

Anja is “female angel” in portuguese.

No Ashley. Anja is not pronounced like Anya (otherwise, it would be written the same way).

  20. Jacky Says:

Well I love Anya so if Anja is pronounced the same way, I love it too haha

  21. Clara Says:

Guillermo, “Anja” is NOT female angel in Portuguese. There is only one word for angel and that would be “Anjo”. Angels don’t have genders. However, some Portuguese speakers often misuse the word “anja” to talk about a woman. It’s not even in the dictionary.

That’s why I believe the pronunciation would be “Anya”, which I think is gorgeous.

  22. Stephany Says:

Very cute name! I’d like to hear how it’s pronounced. I wouldn’t think it would be OHN-JA. I’m thinking more along the lines of AHN-YA. But I could be wrong. ;)

    So happy for them!

  23. shayla Says:

I hope that alessandra having a girl puts to rest all the old wives tales about being pregnant with a girl and it causing you to swell up like a balloon or gain weight everywhere! Congrats to the couple, I’m sure the their daughter is gorgeous.

  24. Kait Says:

She has to be one beautiful baby, hitting the genetic jackpot it seems. Adorable name! Sounds like a very girly name as a child but also sounds like it could transition well as she becomes older (unlike Maddie Briann…) Congrats to the two! Hope for the best, and good luck with the crying that will no doubt be in the future :)

  25. fynn Says:

Just at work I have 4 Anjas! The name is as popular here in Germany/Switzerland as Jessica or Jennifer are in the US. So even if I like the sound I would never use it as I hear it all the time. Sorry Danielle!

  26. Heather Says:

Congrats to Alessandra and Jamie! I’m so happy for them. Anja Louise is a beautiful name.

  27. Rebecca Says:

    Gorgeous name!

  28. ERICKA Says:

    I forgot she was pregnant.

Cute name…different but not “scratch my head” kinda weird.

  29. Sarah Says:

OMG!! Finally!! Alessandra happens to be my favorite model, and I’m sure her daughter will be just as gorgeous!! I can’t wait to see this sure-to-be-beautiful baby girl!! Congrats!!!!!

  30. FC Says:

Aww, congrats to her and Jamie! I’m happy for the both of them, and I love their daughter’s name.

I see her daughter’s name being pronounced just like you would its variant Anya. Same way you pronounce Sonja as you would “Sonya”. Different spellings, same pronunciation.

  31. Ilana Says:

In Portuguese Anja is pronounced differently than Anya. It can means angel, even though the Portuguese word for angel is Anjo. Since Anjo is a masculine word, some people do use the word Anja for girls (even if it’s grammatically wrong). I’m Brazilian so I know how to say this name in Portuguese. However, I’m not sure how to explain it here… Well, it’s something like “Un -Ja” but our j sounds a little stronger though. I hope this helps ;)

  32. Sanne Says:

In the Netherlands this is the correct spelling of the little girl’s name… Here we say her name like this: An(n)-Jaa.

    Congrats Alessandra & Jamie!

  33. helen Says:

    Anja is a Russian name
It is pronounced “A-nya” in America, but it comes from name Anna, or Hannah
    Anja means “Grace Of God”

  34. Lili Says:

Anja in portuguese means female angel
    and Anjo means male angel

  35. Lara Says:

As it has been said before theres no female for ANGEL in protuguese!
I´m brazilian and I acutally went to school, so I know better (lol)
and as its much more likely that the baby will be raised in the U.S, I think they wanting it or not will be spelled ANYAH

    just like Tanja, Sanja…etc

but it´s truly a beautiful name!
am expecting a baby girl myself and I opted for Amber Louise…much more common tho
