Marc Cohn Values His Family and Career

Tags: Dads, Parenting

Marc_cohn Singer/songwriter Marc Cohn loves his job, even if that means he has to travel and spend time away from his wife, television journalist Elizabeth Vargas, and their two sons Zachary Raphael, 5 ½, and Samuel Wyatt, 2. In fact, he believes "that it is important for your kids to know that you love your job," even if it comes at the price of him missing his sons. The 49-year-old "really value[s] both things," adding that he does the "best to balance everything" and is thankful that "I’m actually home more than most fathers." When Marc isn’t able to be home, the Walking in Memphis singer uses i-Chat so "I can see them and they can see me," and it even causes the family some laughter along the way.

On this past tour I was talking to my five-year-old son through this and when he saw my hotel room on his screen, he was like, ‘Daddy how come you’re place looks like a dump?’ [And I said] because this is how your Dad makes a living [laughs].

Marc is also father to Max, 17, and Emily, 13, from a previous relationship.

One of my favorite couples, he’s one of my favorite singer/songwriters, and she’s probably my favorite interviewers/news story journalist. Her latest I saw this past friday about premature births amongst lower income black females, and a general an eye opener as I had no idea the U.S. has the highest infant mortality and lowest life expectancy, compared W/ the 23 other industrialized nations.

Is that really how their older son’s middle name is spelled? That’s not the standard spelling for Raphael. If this is correct, I wonder if they pronounce it differently?

  3. BECKYPEABODY Says:

She’s so beautiful. Very elegant and easy to listen to.

Everything about her reminds me of Soledad O’Brien, when Soledad wears her hair “pageboy” style.
