Jane Kaczmarek Talks Chaos and Kids

Actors Jane Kaczmarek and Bradley Whitford have both enjoyed successful television careers, but the small screen plays a very small part in the lives of their children Frances, 11, George, 8, and Mary Louisa, 5 ½. Jane — who can next be seen in the TNT original series Raising The Bar — says that the couple has just one television in their house, and it’s off-limits to the kids during the week. "There’s so much chaos in the house with children, who needs more on TV?" she asks, adding,

We relax the rules on weekends and in summer, and they can watch things like The Pink Panther and a boxed set we have of Get Smart.

Jane, 52, and Bradley, 48, were married in 1992.

   Over the summer, we relax the rules a bit on television. During the school year, no tv before school. We don’t usually get home until after 6, so our evenings are spent with homework, baths, and stories. They have to be in bed by 8, so they only get tv if there is time left. We allow them to have a tv in their room, but only because we hardly have time to watch tv, and when we do, we don’t want to be stuck watching Hannah Montana or Total Drama Island. But my husband and I do not have a tv in our room. We try to keep our tv time to a minimum.

   I met Brad Whitford in MO in 2003, when he came to campaign for Jean Carnahan. He was sexy, funny, charming, and much taller and thinner than he appeared on TV. And TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH Jane. He called her no less than 3 times while we were out canvassing with him – she was pregnant with their youngest at the time.

   I thought then that he must be an amazing and fun Dad…

   She looks absolutely amazing for 52. I mean to have a little 5 year old must be hectic in general but she seems like a great mother– Brad as well. I was actually thinking of the same rule, no TV for kids to watch till a certain age or for movies.

   Wow I wouldn’t have guessed she was 52, she looks amazing! I loved her in Malcom in the Middle. She played the perfect crazy, disfunctional mom. I loved that show because it always put into perspective that your family could always be worse!
